Song singular.

The best song of this year. One song. What was the best song of this year - one song - in your opinion?

EDIT:

And once again, because I know we sometimes have difficulty with reading thread titles or their OP's intent, that's one song. One.

Once we get the initial ironic comedy misunderstanding posts out of the way, I give us one page at best before people start posting their stock lists without reading the "one" bit.

Again, that's one song.

My best song? I go back and forth between "You Are the Blood" and "Just the Same but Brand New" but the former is what I put at the top of my list, so I'll go with the Soof.

That You are the Blood cover is AWESOME. The horns give me chills. I hope Sufjan keeps moving down this path of fucking mildly experimental electronic 10 minute epic songs. Because he's really good at it.

HOWEVER my favorite is:

Does Ambling Alp count as a 2009 release? It was technically released as a single, but I don't think I am going to count it as a 2009 release, because the full album doesnt get released till 2010. Also, having Ambling Alp as number 1, two years in a row would be kind of confusing.

I held out until today because I wanted to make sure I was 100 percent sure of my selection. I thought maybe it could be one of the fine songs off of
"Actor". I LOVE St. Vincent. It's quite obvious. I think this is longest I have had the same avatar. Then I thought maybe since I finally listened to
Merriweather Post Pavilion and instantly fell in love with "Brother Sport" that this would be my choice.

What it all comes down to is the fact that Grizzly Bear did in fact put out the best song of the year.

The xx Florence and the Machine remix is a fucking spectacular choice.

french navy was my favorite song for the year.

its amazing how this song just glows.

when i saw camera obscura at the glasshouse last year it seemed like the entire building was infused with instant energy during this song. there were at least five pockets of people dancing amongst the edge of the crowd.

i was waiting to be struck by lightning
waiting for somebody exciting
like you
oh the thing that you do
you make me go oooooh.

i love her voice.

Feel It All Around by Washed Out and I Became A Prostitute by The Twilight Sad were pretty good, but this takes the crown.

Three-way tie with "The Royal We" (SSPU), "When I Died" (The Thermals), and "Hellhole Ratrace" (Girls) for me.

I came in here just to mention Here We Go Magic.
I cannot stop listening to this; for me, one of the best of 2009.

For me, song of the year by a considerable distance was Sufjan Steven's You Are The Blood. Cover or no.

You liked pt 1 better than <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Hq5YtipSjsw&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Hq5YtipSjsw&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>??

I can never decide what my favorite song/band/album wtfever is there are always so many good ones.

Edit: I really love this burial track right now

Yeah, I did. Buck 65's take was far tighter I'll grant you but some of his key lyrics in it are distractingly clunky.

Sufjan's is a bit more indulgent, but man is it epic.

He definitely takes a scatter shot approach with his imagery, I find myself ignoring some lines and focusing on the ones that speak to me and letting those define the song. Makes for a song that I need to be in the mood to listen to but one that I usually like.

The burial song on the other hand actually changes my mood just be listening to it, I find it calming.

I guess it does get points for being one of the few Animal Collective songs I can stomach, they've never been my cup of tea though so don't listen to me.

Ditto.

I can stand to listen to it well enough, but it would sooner make me want listen to some Eurythmics than ever listen to any more Animal Collective.
