These guys are pretty classic.
One of the greatest punk bands I've always thought!
Have they ever played Coachella?

One of the best bands period. i love Social Distortion and have wanted a Coachella appearance for years. When Mike Ness played Stagecoach in 2008, my hopes were up, but nothing came of it. If X can play, then so can SD.

I saw Social D in 2005 and it was pretty damn boring, to say the least. I was disappointed since I love some of their albums. Social D, White light white heat white trash and Mommy's Little Monster are all really good.

I like a lot of their tunes, but it's just annoying how Mike Ness thinks he's SOOOO badass. I mean, you're from fucking Orange County, get over yourself.

And too many of their big hits are covers. That bugs me too.

Chris, i'm bad ass and from OC (see the wanted poster...13 dollars, dude). Where you're from doesn't determine your bad assness. The bad assness comes from within and all places in the world can put someone down enough to foster it. my older brother is one of the most bad ass people i know. Quite capable of doing serious physical damage to a person if he had to. He's from here too. A few million people come from here, not everyone is a Republican pussy.

The few times i have met and talked to Mike Ness, he has not had any airs about him. He didn't come off as a man who thought much about himself, let alone being bad ass. When he talks about being punk because he was there in the beginning, he has every right to.

The only "hits" that are covers coming to mind are "Ring of Fire" and "Under My Thumb". Both bad ass versions if i may say so.

Whoa...Don't mess with the cameraman when it comes to Social Distortion! I don't ever recall seeing Mike be so awesomely badass while defending a band! (It's kinda cute.:))

With the frequency that this band plays in southern California every year, having them at Coachella would be silly. They already play at Street Scene every year (unfortunately).

I'm really sick of Social D.

Since this is an "appreciation" thread, i'll ignore the rest of them non-appreciation comments. Social D is one of those rare bands i have seen play into the double digits and been pleased as punch every time.

Here are the pictures i posted from Mike Ness' Stagecoach performance:

I am terribly bored by their music, but I met Mike Ness a few years ago and he was a pretty good guy

i don't think Social D has any place at Coachella, but i LOVE them. They were a big part of growing up for me. Before Mike Ness started playing real country music, Social D basically was the country of punk rock in the method of storytelling.

And Tallguy, who cares about their "hits?" They have soooooo many damn good songs.

I am probably going be only one to say that i actually enjoy 90% of that show .But then again i came well prepared to see them on 4:20 .I just got piss off they started doing harder punk rock music where people started to mosh when i was feeling really really mellow. The setlist for that show had all the songs i wanted to hear live from them out of the total of 5 times i saw them.I saw them again at Wreck the hall last year and was the biggest waste of money i have spent and will never go out of my way to see them again those .

Nickels and dimes was the highlight for the social d show i went to for me.

I suppose so. They might be a "for a certain time and place" kinda band. I probably enjoy their stuff more out of nostalgia than anything else now, not sure if it would impact me listening to it for the first time now as opposed to when I was 11 years and it blew my mind up

paulthomasanderson

They're still better than 99% of the young bands that declare themselves as "punk rock" when really it's just repetitive garbage that I can't even nod my head to without getting nauseated.

Mike Ness did a solo show and signing at a record store I worked in during college. Dude was really nice, but surprisingly teeny. His stage persona makes it seem as though he'd be ten feet tall.

Lee, I'd just about given up on you making incredibly stupid pronouncements on music. Thank you for restoring my lack of faith in you.

I like Social Distortion a lot and if they played Coachella I'd be right there.

I am surprised they haven't played based on the fact that they have played the hootenanny fest so many times and have been in with goldenvoice for years.

i'm sure if they wanted to play they would be there, maybe it's not something the band wants to do?

they're in recent years had a longstanding contract with Livenation too though, what with their HOB residencies. i don't know if that makes any difference though

There's a lot more people in the room. Sometimes when bands played (instead of just a straight interview), fans would be invited to show up. Off camera the room is full with them and crew. These were my interning days (split between KROQ and RV). They were kind enough to let me help out however i could without fucking up the show.

To get slightly off subject, but a tiny bit related....while looking for a youtube clip of that day (haven't found it yet), i found this montage from the final Request Video show:

If you watched the show regularly, it should trip you out. If you didn't, you might trip out on who showed up on the show.
