Ok guys. So here's the deal. I really fucked myself over for abandoning the board when summer started, etc. Basically, I've been downloading gigabytes and gigabytes of electronic fidgety dubsteppy blog music. Long story short, I have no idea what's going on in the REAL music world, so I definitely need a refresher. Please post all of the IMPORTANT artists to hear. To narrow it down, nothing too folksy, bluesy, or shoegazy. Please just music that's ORIGINAL rather than re-hashed sounds from 2005. I can't be the only one who's in this situation, so please help a brother out. Ready, set, FIRE!!!

See "Tell us About 2009 Albums" thread

That's what I did after a summer off the boards

I'd like to offer something up, but I don't know what you mean by the "real music world"..
So umm.. hmm.
I really enjoy Moderat, but you sound like you might know it already.

It's been a year with a load of really good albums, without any great ones. I can't really think of anything off the top of my head other than the new/forthcoming Yeasayer one, and even that is enjoyable rather than awesome or memorable.

That's been my impression. I'm having a difficult time coming up with my annual Top CD list. There are a lot of good CDs, but few rising to the top for me.

Veckatimest, Merriweather and Bitte Orca all sound like great albums to me. Maybe that's just me.

AC are not my bag whatsoever. As for Dirty Projectors, I kinda respect what's going on and I think I can see what people like about it, I just don't enjoy it much.

Now, I do enjoy Veckatimest a lot, but it's not something I get excited about or ever get a sudden need to hear.

I totally agree about Veckatimest. It's just a good album.

Probably won't be too high on my Best of 2009 list. I know for sure that Embryonic is ahead of it.

Veckatimest has defined my life in 2009... it seems like every great day/great weekend I've had this year was soundtracked by it... I'll always remember this year with it. Definitely more than just a "very good album" for me personally.

New Grizzly Bear is very good. Animal Collective released more bizzarrely, spectacularly and universally overrated crap. Fever Ray continues to be the best thing I've heard since 2008.

Thank you for saying this because it's the truth. You have good taste. Bitte Orca is also way overrated. MPP is the one that actually deserves the hype. Embryonic fucking rocks.
