Trader Joe's is the only place I shop now for food (besides the local produce market)

A hell of a lot cheaper than say Ralphs or what have you, and with foods 5x as delicious

trader joes is alright but their produce is disgusting... it's in plastic boxes and usually over ripe or moldy. i feel like the majority of the food at trader joes is frozen food or cookies/breads.

it was fun at first, then our store moved to a new location that was 3x the size (second biggest whole foods) and it got really shitty... management and new customers.

the san diego whole foods are nice... theres like 3 of them right? i have a few friends working at one of them down there. i like how they don't require the employees to wear the aprons.

So true, Trader Joe's produce is nas-tay! There have been multiple occasions where I have seen moldy or spoiled items in their produce section.

Trader Joe's chocolate covered peanut pretzels, blue cheese roasted pecan dip, ice tea lemonade, and organic three cheese pizza on the other hand are great.

And I have a buddy who was a long time manager for multiple locations who got paid bank.

From the Open Letters Thread...

Dear Trader Joes,

Why do you toy with my emotions? Especially when those emotions are connected to the primal urges of my gastrointestinal system. Each time I shop at your stores, something is out of stock, discontinued, moved, repackaged or reformulated. While I do love your prices and selection, the other issues are bringing me down. I have formed an addiction to your Roasted Plantain Chips and face crippling depression if my craving is not satiated.

Please get your shit together.

Thanks,
higgy

The Trader Joe's on Court Street in Brooklyn is a handful of stops on the G train away, and that's the one we hit up the most. It's in an old bank that was built in either the late 1800's or the early 1900's, which gives it a lot of open space and incredibly high ceilings. We usually hit it up in a big way, combining a trip there with one to Sahadi's (http://www.sahadis.com/).

I'll agree with the produce gripes, though we've got a few excellent spots right outside our door for that.

Fairway (http://www.fairwaymarket.com/) is good, too (for produce and everything else), but its Red Hook location is not nearly close enough to Greenpoint to make it a regular stop for us. It would probably be quicker to visit the Upper West Side location in Manhattan.

That video was great so spot on!

The "that they don't have anymore" lines make me sad because it happens to me so much! On Thursday i saw two guys rummaging through the frozen section like maniacs - "WHERE IS THE SEAFOOD BLEND!?!?! THEY CAN'T NOT HAVE IT ANYMORE!!!!!"

It's true, the fdrozen seafood blend was awesome and super cheap.

Their "Salsa Especial" is to dieeeee for (the one in fridge section) ...with some of those multicolored flaxseed chips, or even better the "Identity Crisis" chips!

Also, on New Years Day I was forced to go into Von's to get some arborio rice(36 oz.) because TJ was closed....it was $7.99. A couple days later I'm in TJ and see the arborio rice(36 oz.) for $2.99!! They really are much cheaper & sooo much more delicious.

Oooooh I miss TJs so much now that I no longer live in Los Angeles. I am able to find/make substitutes for most of their products here in Hawaii (albeit at additional cost), but one thing I've completely been stumped by is the dried mangosteen. SO GOOD. SO MISSED.

Mochi is some sort of rice gelatin-y thing. It is indeed delicious. I like the green tea ones.

TJs indian food is insane. Frozen brown rice (I love that I do not have to wait 45 minutes for brown rice) with garlic naan and saag paneer? Yes please!

Also they have awesome meatless meatballs. Noms!

This random other customer at TJ's told my boyfriend to try Simpler Times. He said it tastes good and you can't beat the price or the alcohol content. My boyfriend took his advice and bought 12. I don't really drink a lot of beer (I am a liquor/wine drinker) but I tried it the next day and I really loved it! I was really surprised you could find a beer that had good flavor but was still kind of light for that price! I am converted and a total fan!

Mayra was telling me they had to put a limit on the cookie butter, as people were buying tons of it and then selling it on ebay.

Whaaaaa?

I just eat a spoonful of it at night when I'm craving something sweet. It keeps me from eating a bowl of ice cream or worse. So goddamn good.

Yeah, and apparently asians were the worst offenders. They would try to buy a bunch to send to their families overseas. So typical. We've had a jar for months that has only had a couple spoons taken out. I'm not as into it as other people. We did make some kind of chimichurri steak tonight that was really good.

This thread makes me oh so very happy, yet so so sad. I live very far from a Trader Joes. Like thousands of miles far.

I'm planning another trip home later this year and gonna stock up on Trader Joes goodies and bring them back.
