There's never been a strong heavy metal presence at Coachella. Could any of these fit in, or is it never going to happen?

Slayer brah. Bring em' on and I'll watch, I don't give a fuck!

Maiden.

I'd watch any of their sets. As for who would fit in the best...probably Metallica or Maiden. A classic Ozzy-era Sabbath reunion would be good too.

Prior to Coachella, I pretty much only listened to classic rock and metal, but the fest opened my eyes to afew new genres that have ended up capturing my attention. Don't get me wrong, I still like my rock and metal, but I'd prefer it kept separate from the vibe I get from Coachella. Think about it...If you go to a Rock and Metal Fest, would you want to hear Britney Spears, or the Bee Gees on a stage nearby?

Motorhead or Slayer would be fun, but Metallica is probably the only band up there that has a remote chance of ever playing Coachella.

maiden would never happen and they don't really fit the vibe. but i'd lose my fucking mind with excitement if they were there. i've seen them twice and that's not nearly enough

AC/DC would fit for me but none of the others mentioned above. I don't think that Pantera or slayer would be a good vibe for people who are thizzin or trippin on Cid.

Oh Slayer at Coachella. I could just imagine the blood raining down on the polo fields right now.

Yeah, I was thinking that, but I really don't consider AC/DC to be heavy metal; they're more hard rock. It's a fine line, though.

I'd love Ozzy-era Sabbath to be there. One of the best concerts I've ever seen...

Judas Priest would be cool at Coachella!

Metallica or Marilyn Manson. Neither of which can really be considered heavy metal. Metallica maybe 10 years ago, but not now, they wear too much makeup.

I voted Slayer, just cause its Fucking Slayer. They would never fit in. None of the above bands would ever play. I think Manson would have the largest chance of playing though.

Slayer played in 2004 courtesy of 2ManyDj's.

How can anyone put Manson in the same category as those other acts I don't know. I personally would love to see Anthrax tear shit up.

I actually think Metallica will play at some point. It's just a matter of time. I could imagine most of the other acts playing, but not two of them in the same year.

metal fits in at coachella, just not the ones listed here.. Metallica would be the most likely, but i voted for Pantera..

Don't forget the one that he got some of his ribs removed so he could suck his own dick. That one's probably true though.

This thread immediately caught my eye:

As I've seen everyone on that list except for Pantera (obviously) Sabbath(obviously) and Manson (like others said shouldn't even be in the category, I would say Maiden would be the best fit, Metallica is a bunch of sell outs now and Slayer I think everyone would be pissed at. Maybe Motorhead would fit nice too, but as for Megadeth I feel like Mustaines vocals would annoy fans of edward sharp.

tchuess
02-05-2010, 11:06 AM
none of the above. Manson would be more likely than the others, but I don't think he's played a show (recently) before dark, and he's not big enough to play after dark at Coachella anymore.

some other alt-rock/metal-ish/industrial-ish bands that might work:

Filter
Living Colour
Alice in Chains
A Perfect Circle
Soundgarden
Ministry
Deftones
Failure
Helmet
Jane's Addiction

I wouldn't really consider any of those 'metal', but I think that's about as close as Coachella would get. It was surprising to see Dillinger EP on the line-up this year, good for them!

i forgive everything bad you've said about underworld and orbital. Iron Maiden is one of my favorite bands of all time and their live show would be a blast at Coachella. If Muse can headline, Maiden can certainly be a strong subheadlining band. Of all the bands in this poll, their music I think is the most easily accessible and is not going to polarize as many fans as a Manson or Slayer would. listening to "fear of the dark" over the polo fields would be an epic evening for me.

Manson could've had some serious crossover appeal with that Burlesk thing if he followed the concept through, and didn't turn it into a watered-down arena-raprock shitpile. It could have been the high-water mark of his career given his reference points, ideas and collaborations ie working with Helnwein. After that point the drugs had an irreversible and laughable affect.

And where the fuck are Anthrax/Stormtroopers of Death, DRI, Suicidal Tendencies and Napalm Death? Metal at Coachella is very much a niche thing, and the list of bands included in this thread has been all wrong so far.

On a prog level, King Crimson or Camel would be a total mindfuck on the poster and would fit in brilliantly with the music nerds.

My vote's on Motorhead, their sound just seems easier to swallow to people that aren't big fans of metal. Plus they would almost fill the punk quota for the day they would play.

I am not a fan of most metal, but I could understand the desire to see a few of these bands at the polo fields.

Just as long as it's not hair metal. No need for Motley Crue, Cinderella, Poison or any of that crap at Coachella ever.

Like..the Melvins...drooool, then our chance to have Fantomas would be upped as well.

Manson would have fit in when people actually wanted to see him. Used to have cross over fans with Tool and Nin. Currently though he's just wrong.

Seems wrong calling him a classic metal act.

Is it just me, or does the term, "classic metal" sound funny? I always thought of classic to be a term used for something that's a little older, and maybe it's just me again, but is metal really that ancient yet? And does it draw as many fans as "classic rock?" And, I'm talking classic rock, as in Aerosmith. (Go ahead....flame my ass away...I can take it! )

Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and others are all approaching 40 years old, just as old if not older than plenty of "classic rock" bands.

It's not like people years. 40 in music years is like being 40 in dog years. Ozzy is practically mummified by this point.
