lickety, I approve thoroughly of your "boring" list, and we already suspected your obsession with club anthems, though both with your lists and the club anthems, I'd placed your age about a decade older than you actually are.

I've had 5 mp3 players so far, 6 if we want to count a 16gb iphone (which I rarely play mp3s on anymore because of battery life). I'm on my 2nd iPod -- not due to the first one dying but due to upgrading for capacity. My oldest iPod still works after 5.5 years. All of my other brand mp3 players (including a very highly rated Archos)? Dead just over 1 year after purchase (and of course none of them had more than a year warranty).

The Rios and Archos were very easy to use in the sense of just acting as a usb drive without needing any software, but broke very quickly. I started to feel like a full for refusing to purchase iPods just because every one had them. (Well, really the main reason was that iTunes used to fry my old laptop -- it would start to blue screen as soon as iTunes was installed -- but I have never had that problem on any other computer).

I'd make my next one a zune though if they could get the software to not suck, AND could transfer all of the track tagging (specifically ratings and non-standard genre labels) from itunes to zune. For some reason it doesn't pick up on those fields. I have whined to a friend who is a zune software programmer about this a few times, and her answer is always along the lines of "why would anyone want to transfer their song ratings and labels (that they spent 5 years tidying??@?@)"

Unfortunately it's that MS mindset of "why would anyone want to do anything we didn't think of first and tell them to do" which I think will limit Zune a bit. It had seriously never occurred to them that people might build playlists around ratings and such. They've also not given much thought and planning into crafting the software to appeal to people migrating from iTunes, though the album art display stuff in the newest Zune looks slick.

I'm mostly envious of the Pass. ;)

Ethyl Meatplow - Abazab

Oooh. I do not know any Ethyl Meatplow but as I have begun to love Carla Bozulich/Evangelista but I believe that I should. I'd ask which album to get but that is n/a.

Also yay for Field Mice show up on another list.

That song is on Happy Days, Sweetheart, which I think is their only album. I do not actually have the album, but only part of it (mp3s, which were ripped in the days predating bands caring about legality of mp3s... so very poor quality). My college roommate was in to them, I think she saw them tour with Nitzer Ebb?

I'm not familiar with Carla's other work but have the impression it's a lot different.

And Field Mice are wonderful. Yet this 'random' play meme type thread is forcing me out of my usual insistence of keeping my random listening isolated to Sarah records / generic twee playlists. :)
