Why? It's SxSW... a ridiculously long list of bands is to be expected.

Are you concerned about Dale's cache?

I'm having a really tough time deciding whether or not I'm gonna go to this. For those who have gone before, is it worth it to go without a badge? I really don't wanna fork up over $600 for one and I don't see anything listed on the site about wristbands. Those local only? Cuz if so I can get a friend to pick one up for me. Hell, is it even worth the trip from AK (which'll be over $600 for the flight alone) without a wristband? From what I read, it's possible to get to a venue early, pay cover then just stay there for the rest of the night which I'd be down for.

My big concern is WHO I'm gonna be able to see with just a wristband if I get one. I'm interested in artists like A Shoreline Dream, The Boxer Rebellion, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Efterklang, Frightened Rabbit, HEARTSREVOLUTION, Jason Lytle, Neon Indian, Plants and Animals, The Russian Futurists, Toro y Moi, We Fell To Earth, We Were Promised Jetpacks, The xx and others so I dunno if those will be too packed to get into without a badge or wristband. Basically, I just wanna know if it's worth the cost, considering I'm also hitting up Coachella (of course) and Glastonbury too.

Oh and maybe hotel too if I can't find a place.

wristbands are local only. you're not going to get into many of the shows you want with a wristband anyway.
The badge is king these days, but even with one you're not guaranteed entry.
The best plan is to rsvp for all of the free day and night parties (which is nearly impossible these days) and pay for the single "official" night shows. (If, of course, you are able to get in).

this is true. and also, get early to the shows you really want to see.

this will be my 4th time going and i've never bought a wristband/badge. i saw all the shows i wanted to last year (primal scream, tori amos, echo and the bunnymen x3, pj harvey, grizzly bear, dinosaur jr, etc) and spent less than $100 on tickets.

yeah, i think i spent a total of $80 last year, and I was wasted from wednesday morning through sunday night. Didin't see everyone that I wanted to see but, I saw enough.

I have been every year since '96 and have only purchased one wristband. I have volunteered a few times before because they give all volunteers badges. I think I might go this route again this year so I can sit in on a few panels.

That is a very nice set of adds. Nothing I'm dying over not being able to go - was it last year that the Wrens and the Homosexuals were playing at the same time? - but I would have more than enough that I'd love to see.

Can't believe Scissor Sisters got added!!!

Too bad airfare alone is over $500 from Seattle for those dates. I'm really sad I can't go. I could really use a break from school right now, anyway. SXSW would be a great experience to get me through the next 3 months of teaching... Guess I'll have to hold my breath through March and half of April to make it to April 16th.
