The title says it all, the dubstep last year was a great addition, and any more dubstep couldn't hurt at all. Any good ideas for dubstep artists for 2010?

i totally agree, I have seen all of those artists mentioned above in the past 6months and would love to have them play in the Dome...kinda off topic but Miami's Dubstep scene has really blossomed in the past few months...we have had IMO every major Dubstep artist come through and play shows to the point where thursdays and sat are dubstep nights in some of the major underground clubs...its pretty fucking awesome

I totally agree. I'm seeing Joker Saturday night in LA. Zimmy, i would have to say that you know the epicness that is ********* and that Bassnectar, pretty lights, and MALA have to be there. Mala's deep ass bass invaded my head at 8 in the morning at ********* in a way that can't be described.

That being said, i would love to see Nero, Caspa, N-type, Sukh Knight, Bar9.

Also, the SF bay area dubstep scene is burgeoning, and i would love to see Mimosa, Freq Nasty, Beats Antique, and any other bomb Bay Area dubstep there.

as long as they have the dome, i don't see dubstep acts being invited into the Sahara.. the only exceptions being a Skream vs Benga or a Caspa/Rusko set, but i'd perfer them to headline a huge dome.. or else you be getting these acts at 3 or 4pm in the Sahara, and nobody really prefers dubstep in the hot afternoon sun..

... right, 'cause what music really needs is more douchebags talking over it. This is all kinda irrelevant as dubstep blows with or without MCs, but nonetheless taking the MCs out of the equation is hardly the same thing as taking the instruments out of the equation.

The only time I was happy with an MC at a dubstep show was when I saw Caspa. And I think it's because he didn't say too much over the mic. Artists don't need MCs if their music already speaks for itself.

MCs can ruin a set in five seconds. and a really good, tasteful MC can take actually contribute a lot to a long jungle, drum 'n' bass, or dubstep mix. but it only works in certain circumstances. I don't ever have an mc/let someone pick up the mic during a dubstep set. I just don't play the right kind of stuff.
there's a DJ/MC combo (who're also a couple. it's adorable) named capro & frankie, and they play every sunday at the local rasta bar. they're really good together. a bit of careful, reserved MCing in the imx between tracks in a smooth drum 'n' bass set can really help keep the flow and the energy going. but by the same token, in a heavy dubstep set, somebody toasting or freestyling over an epic breakdown can be really jarring and totally snap everyone out of their groove.
edit:
like when I saw skream and benga play together last year. if someone had been on the mic during that set, it would have totally ruined the epic atmosphere. people were just locked in this deep deep groove for hours.

Gribbz
11-25-2009, 12:36 PM
The MC at The Orb didn't rap or anything. He just provided vocals to some of the songs. Unlike the Crookers MC who yelled constantly.

But if you think MC's are still dumb and your at a Drum n Bass set your fucking retarded. When an MC is ripping the mic up in sync with the DJ, aint shit better. Peep the first 30 seconds of the vid and you can see that if an MC is on point, he is a great asset for hyping the crowd...

A whole musical genre limited to electronic music in 2/4 time? This is gonna burn out and backlash faster than you can say "electroclash".

The worst part about it is otherwise really good DJs are jumping on this terrible bandwagon. You used to be able to go to a Space Island party and hear crazy acid breaks, now they all play the same 4 dubstep records with a dozen people on the dancefloor flailing around.

edbangerkid
11-26-2009, 03:23 PM
Yes most of you old IDM people talk a lot of shit on dubstep, and yes it does get old to hear Rusko's Cockney Thug get dropped at least once in every set, by any dj. But look at the legends such as Benga and Skream and they have a lot of talent. Diaries of an Afro Warrior by Benga was a great album. Other up-commers such as Excision and Datsik are getting big too. So whether you like it or not, youll probably see one of those few in the Sahara this year.

PS Bros listening to dubstep sucks ass. Im with you on that one.

You know what would totally be better than hearing that MC? Actually being able to hear the nuances of the music playing behind his half-assed off-key bullshit.

If you need someone hollering "EDC!!!" over your beat in order to get the crowd hyped then your beat needs work. You don't just get some non-musical dickhole to beg the crowd for applause to fix it.

Threads like this are a testament to the fact that the sound is reaching more ears, which is both good and bad...

Dubstep has been going on for years, but bros that just found out about it are making lots of noise, much of it obnoxious... Frankly I think it's cool that people are actually talking about it instead of Tiesto or some shit.

Lots of people don't like it- that's fine. As Wayne said, "Led Zeppelin didn't make tunes that everyone liked. They left that to the Bee Gees."

Mala doesn't make tunes that everyone likes. He leaves that to Daft Punk. I can't wait until the hype blows over and all the bro-hoes and band-wagoners quiet down. If there isn't any dubstep in the sahara this year, I will be disappointed, but I'd rather the sound stay marginalized and remain genuine than to have some watered-down, lowest common denominator bullshit blow up, which has kind of already happened unfortunately...

Good dubstep is there for those of us who want it. At this point I don't care one way or another if you people get it or not.

me neither. my point is that there is a wide variety of sounds under the label "dubstep"... it really comes down to taste and timing. people seemed to be going pretty nuts when Crookers played Eastern Jam this year, but who knows how they would have reacted to a full set from Chase and Status?

I totally agree with this. I'm definitely not down with the dubstep bros, but i would like to see things stay in the dome, save a few artists in the sahara (maybe). Lets keep the dubstep good and keep it small. For those of you who hate it, why are you even posting on this thread? I don't go to your threads about music i don't like and post "oh this genre sucks ass, oh i'm a whiny little bitch, oh i feel good when i denounce and degrade things". By starting this thread i was simply communicating with those who like some good dubstep now and then, and taking some opinions on who people would like to see. dubstep has been around for years.. dub has been around for decades, and the dubstep scene blew up over three years ago.. it's just now coming up out of the underground and into the suburbs

well, they probably wouldn't have dug a full set from Chase and Status, since they're drum&bass not dubstep (Indian Dub is a remix)..
i would LOVE to see Chase & Status at Coachella though! TC too!

.

I know its been around for years, but just in the recent couple of months I have noticed a surge in its popularity in LA and out in Colorado.

Also TC and Chase & Status would be fuckin dope

like i said the suburbs.. Pure Filth has been hosting dubstep monthlies in L.A. with top names for over three years now..
and NorCal has had a huge scene for even longer

i think the problem is people thinking Sahara when they should be thinking Gobi or Mojave.. this year had acts like The Bug, NASA, & The Orb in the smaller tents, i would prefer dubstep getting nighttime slots there, than daytime slots in the Sahara and pissing off the tranceheads..

but i think that should only be for the big names, leave the smaller stuff in the Dome (but either extend the hours or move it into the campground.. waiting for 2 1/2 hours for them to get the dome started after the fest has ended for the day is way too long)

I agree. Though a West-Side story style gang dance off between the dub-steppers and the tranceys would be a ton of fun. In any case, I feel like it would be hard to keep the Sahara energy high if dubstep acts were playing at night/in between "bigger" acts.

the tune was released as Eastern Jam, and it's an original. They have several big dubstep tunes-

Saxon is good

Bits is still a big dubplate, hope it comes out at some point

Bassnectar barely releases his remixes, which sucks as ALL of them are amazing

oh the things i'd do to get his remix of firestarter :(

to each his own... if you were just listening to it on your computer without a sub it wouldn't make any sense. But if you don't like it, why are you posting in this thread? Keep living by your assumptions and leave bass music out of it.

in a couple years you're gonna be like those dudes who still only listen to jungle music 24/7 (or, god help you, like a juggalo). you are quickly going to reach a dead end.

You don't know anything about me friendo. You're making assumptions based on my posts on a message board. Assuming that anyone who goes to Coachella only listens to one type of music is retarded. Besides, bass music has evolved so much in the last three years, I don't think anyone knows what I'll be listening to in the next three...

Don't you have anything better to do than talk shit to people on this forum? I don't think I've ever seen a positive or original post from you. Wasteman.
