9 american certainly includes canada. hellooooo east coast.
I dunno...if they had said "North American" then yeah. But usually if they just say "American" they're talking about the U.S.
At the same time, it'd be weird if they didn't do the whole Montreal-Toronto etc. circuit.

maybe the reason the "bigger" announcement had to be postponed was because they wanted to announce them as the nightmare curator... i can dream right?

they're pretty much the shining gem of post-rock, the fundamental creators of the movement, and a band whose quality was never matched.

Even thought I haven't seen you talk much about post-rock bands in the past, you seem to appreciate good music. Which means you'll undoubtedly like Godspeed. Check out Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven, and make sure you've got a good few hours to listen to it in its entirety.

ATP is still one of the best weekends of my life, but that lineup was tailor made for me (thanks for that, Kevin) and I don't really want to go back until there is another lineup that I'm just as into. Does that make sense? Anything less than perfect might diminish the glory of the first year.

I just ordered Megabus tickets from Pittsburgh to NYC and back for $1 each way, plus a $0.50 booking fee. In May, they're supposed to add a route from Chicago to Pittsburgh, so I'll order those as soon as they go up. Total ATP travel costs: $5!
Courtney

You do understand that airlines lowered the number of departures each day this year right? So, they gotta make their money back in one way or another, and that includes raising fares.

everyone can fit in the big room, I believe (ie MBV, Lips) and I don't recall seeing the second room ever get to capacity.
I rarely tried to help fill the 2nd room to capacity because of the bad sound if you weren't front and/or centered. The slap back was ugly and distracting. I wanted to see Atlas Sound but only stuck around for a few songs and even then mostly sat a ways back with people.
For the three sets I saw there from the rail and/or one person back - Circulatory System, Boris, No Age w/Bob Mould - everything was great. Oh, wait, I also saw Ak-Ak from frontish centerish but not on the rail; that was great, too. In part because the crowd was way into it.
Hopewell played for about 15 people. 2nd stage was pretty awesome (although fairly segregated).
I really hope that someone plays in the Oneida room.
Oh, how I wanted to see Hopewell again. They and Panda Bear were my two biggest schedule-related losses.

There was something a little amusing though with the chandeliers vibrating and ceiling rattling through a set. Though the sound was awful from 1/2 way back as you said.
I don't know if it's changed in audience since the first year or with the lineup/curator, but it couldn't have been easier to get a spot at the rail in the 2nd stage. People being standoffish or something.

Where would the second stage get moved to? I'm trying to think of another room large enough... One of my favorite things about ATPNY is that I can go from one stage to another in less than a song's time. Also I feel like the oneida bar would die if there was nothing to draw people over that way

Your interest is not a mountain. It cannot be peaked in the adjective sense of the word. You could say, "my interest has peaked," if your interest is at its highest level. Or you could say "my interest is piqued".
This peaked/piqued thing is going to give me an aneurysm.

"with more shows being added all the time, we thought it timely to offer an update on this year's touring calendar. It's beginning to look like a pretty busy year and we still have more shows up our sleeve...
For various reasons we cannot announce all the shows at the one time, but (all going to plan) in addition to these listed below we will be squeezing in shows in Canada, Mexico and the USA as well as a trip to South America between now and the end of the year. Oops, I was far from sober after the show last night when I posted so some of that didn't make sense. I was just really excited because it was such a great show.
After the first song Efferim asks if anyone has any questions and I put my hand up, he nods to me and I ask if they're playing ATP. Before he can even answer somebody else yells out another question about Godspeed without raising his hand so Efferim shakes his head and says he's not answering any questions about Godspeed tonight because it's a different band (even though 3/5 of the band is also in godspeed.) I wanted to ask if Thee Silver Mount Zion will be playing ATP but I didn't get another chance. After the show I talked to Dave (the drummer) and he said he really doesn't have any idea if any of them are going to be involved with ATP this year or not.

My friend and I have had our 6 person room for quite some time now, but with only the 2 of us having bought our tickets. I gave up on some of my friends, thus Chris(tallguy) will get one of the spots.

I'm so looking forward to this.

Read this thread a few times, had to wait a while to enable posting. I'm a fan of speculation so here goes . . .
Bands touring nearby and ATP "friendly"
the week before :
LouFest, Louisville
Built to Spill, Broken Social Scene, She & Him, Jeff Tweedy, Titus Andronicus (maybe for Jarmusch and Fucked Up/Vivian Girls connection)
Rock The Bells, New York
Wu-Tang Performing 36 Chambers (maybe Friday night or other Wu members for Sunday)
Rangda (playing Knitting factory Aug 27)
Mix of ATP favourites, could be interesting
The weekend of:
Moe.Down, Mohawk New York w/ Tortoise already so no worry of exclusivity
Built to Spill (seem like a guarantee add), Black Keys (don't seem to fit but maybe)
Bumbershoot, Seattle
No one announced yet, but likely anyone playing this will have difficulties getting to NY
Others to count out already playing in Europe:
Modest Mouse, LCD Soundsystem, the National
The Week after:
Hopscoth festival, Raleigh already w/ Tortoise, Fucked Up, and Sleepy Sun
Panda Bear (don't know how this would fit having played last year), Broken Social Scene (lots of shows around NY area for the month), Public Enemy, No Age and Atlas Sound (last seen at ATP NY playing a song with Jarmusch), Marissa Nadler, Harvey Milk (I really wanted them added to the previous years), Akron/Family, and Kylesa
Dirty Projectors (Playing Terminal 5 Sept 11)
Aziz Anzari (Playing Town Hall Sept 16, maybe host for comedy but not likely)
And finally, my unlikely but possible choices that would be awesome:
-Swans, playing New York in October, maybe some collaboration with labelmates Akron/Family
-Grinderman, Europe tour starting a few weeks after, but Nick Cave showed up as a surprise last year just to play keys for Dirty Three
-Tom Waits, Jarmusch connection, would be perfect for Mr. Waits to appear from the smoke of Sunn O))) and Boris
-Apex Twin, playing London the week before, would be amazing on the Stardust ballroom soundsystem
-Grizzly Bear (last year had Iron + Wine and Panda Bear on Friday, combine these two and you get Grizzly Bear), they're have some dates spread out around this weekend but nothing in the way, playing in LA with Phoenix later who are also open but not likely (maybe Bumbershoot)
-Pavement, the bassist will already be there
-Michael Rother, Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth so the drummer will already be there) and Aaron Mullan performing as Neu!
-Jeff Magnum/NMH, played in NYC last week, Explosions in the Sky said in an interview that every artist who curated tried to make this happen, played in New York might be time for this to happen.

I was talking with my mom about Suicide yesterday, and i realized that the set at ATP last year was about as punk rock as they could have gotten. I expected them to be a certain thing, and their approach was the only way that could have riled me up and really fucked up what I wanted to see. It was one of the coolest things I've seen, in retrospect, and I respect them a hell of a lot for being badass enough to completely go against what someone like me expected.

I honestly found how much you were pissed off by their set to be quite amazing, after a fashion.
