I know, I know, this isn't news to most of you.

But I visited the place yesterday and was reminded of what a complete shithole it is. It's amazing that Goldenvoice was able to attract such crowds and such musical talent to a trash heap like that place.

The Salton Sea was interesting, though. I walked on thousands of dead fish!

The fumes of meth killed all those fish.

The Taco Trucks killed Coachella.

Oh, noes! You didn't really step on the dead fish, did you, Archie? Oh, my God, that's not good! Before you know it, you'll be sliding down in the front seat of your car and your head will be bobbing while some Baja California radio static fills your ears. Did your wife or girlfriend also step on the fish? If so, you're pretty much destined to live out your life making Mini Tacos and working a Taco Truck. I'm sure glad I didn't step on the fish because I can still live and enjoy Coachella, without smelling like a part of it...

Hey, that was kind of snippy, wasn't it? Sorry, I think I'm snippy because I've been rather burnt out on Tacos lately, and Coachella is still 5 months away...

I plan on retiring in Coachella Valley.

Well, it wasn't exactly on my life agenda, but I somehow think I end up retiring here also. We could pass the time between Coachellas playing golf, getting smashed on Vodka Tonics, and watching roadrunners try to fly.

It's perfect for the festival though. The weather is perfect, doesnt get muddy, and if it rained there chances are the rain would be really refreshing.

Plus the housing all around the festival is perfect for party hopping and chilling in pools n shit. I wouldnt have the festival anywhere else in the world.

Weather is perfect?

LOL

The festival is in April. April is one of those rare months where the weather is likely to be nice, no matter where you are in the country.

The Coachella Valley is the exception. It's too darn hot.

I believe the mercury hit over 100 during each of the past 3 festivals.

The only weather advantage to the Coachella Valley is the lack of likelihood to get rain, but that could be said for all of southern California.

Where does the Coachella valley actually begin / end? Like El Centro is trash. Yes, but I'm not sure it extends that far. What about Palm Springs? Is that Coachella Valley? If yes, then, no, the valley is not trash. And your highlight was the salted sea? I saw Huell Howser do his show there and no way. Shitz toxic.

Salted sea?

Is that where salted peanuts come from?

And the sea isn't toxic. It just smells because of the algae. As nasty as it looks and smells, it's actually quite clean.

Also weird to see pictures of it being a premiere weekend hotspot in the late 1950s.

Indio isn't in the Coachella Valley? I know it's not in the city of Coachella, but seeing as the valley is so big, are you claiming Indio isn't in said valley?

I'm pretty sure Palm Springs is also in the Coachella Valley. I'm also pretty sure that there are some beautiful neighborhoods in Coachella Valley. If you want to see what trash is, go down to Juarez, Mexico, or go to El Paso, Texas and look at Juarez, Mexico from the freeway.

Did you go by the Yacht Club on Bombay Beach? Supposedly the likes of Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, and Frank Sinatra kept their boats at that marina while they gambled and played in the club. When I first got back to this area and had just gotten my truck, a friend and I took a day and did the complete drive around the sea. Can't tell you how long it took since we made pitstops at each watering hole along the way. By the time we got to Bombay Beach I thought I was hallucinating the building I saw under the water...I wasn't. It was like the town casino back in the 50's. Pretty trippy to see it look like an apocolapse occurred now.

So, Archie, do you live like a really sheltered life?

A little fact I learned while visiting the Salton Sea last night via the internet...Indio Blvd was the very first place anywhere that painted lines to divide the lanes on paved roads. That and the fact we make movies about dates having sex lives, goes to show we're trendsetters.
