With all due respect to the Office and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, this show is my new favorite comedy.

Not really new (I bitched in the Emmy thread that it didn't get nominations) , but yes, it is awesome. Unfortunately, Lynch won't be back next season because of Glee. They replaced her with Jennifer...um..."Stifler's Mom" for the last two episodes, but I think that was just temporary.

which is an interesting coincidence considering that they played an awesome lesbian couple in Best In Show

Also, I worked with jane Lynch on commercial once and she's an awesome lady

and also, i've never heard fo this show before, but I'll make sure to check it out

DVR Alert...Starz Comedy is showing all 20 episodes on Friday, December 31st. The main marathon starts at 9am Eastern and runs until 6pm, showing 18 of 20 episodes in order. However, two of them were pulled out of sequence and air before the marathon at 5 and 5:30am. I'm assuming Starz has some kind of 6am-6pm ban on nudity or something, because the two episodes that were pulled back are the porn awards and the orgy.

I've also heard that season 2 is back on Netflix Instant.

I just checked on this recently and it looked like they'd put back up the episodes that had been available on streaming before they pulled the streaming option mid-season, but after checking today, all 10 season 2 episodes can be streamed. Ill will miss Party Down

YES. Just watched both seasons a week ago. One of my favorite shows, it just clicks with me on so many levels. And total crush on Caplan. Dream girl, she's great this, True Blood, and Freaks & Geeks. I wish there was more of this show :( But it has somewhat of a closure ending so thats good.

I watched both seasons on Netflix streaming, fell in love with it, and then lamented its demise. Soo funny! Sucks that it had to be cancelled in favor of lesser shows, IMHO. Still well-worth watching for its memorable characters. My favorite character was Ron. My favorite episodes were the singles seminar, porn awards, and high school reunion. Thanks all for the heads-up.

Hahah I wish I had scrolled two more posts down before I looked through every single male cast member in that movie to see what the hell he was talking about.

I think I'm on ep 5 in season 2 now. I really missed old Ron and I'm glad new new Ron is back. Also, I find nothing redeeming about Megan Mullally's casting on the show. I haven't liked a single one of her scenes yet. (Just finished Steve Gutenberg's birthday party).

Can I also say how happy I was to see a McPoyle brother in it?

bump.

Excerpt from an interview the AV Club did with Martin Starr, talking about the Party Down movie.

AVC: When you hear someone’s a big fan of Party Down, does it pop into your mind that “Oh Alex O’Loughlin, he could’ve been a good guest star for the show”?

MS: No, but now that you say that, it makes me think that maybe we’ll try and get him into the movie.

AVC: All right, now that you’ve opened that door, let’s talk about that. How far along is it? Is this a real possibility, or this kind of like the Arrested Development movie, which people have been talking about for five years now?

MS: Well, I think we’re pretty aware of the fact that these opportunities come and go, and certainly for ourselves and for the people who enjoyed the show, they don’t want to wait forever. And we want to strike while the iron is hot, so to speak. So the only real problem with that is that John [Enbom] and Rob [Thomas] and Dan [Etheridge] are all pretty busy working on other shows. So as they have time to write the outline of a treatment and get that kind of material to the company that’s interested at this point, that’s the real challenge right now, to get their time used in a way that’s good for the movie.

AVC: How long of a window do you think they have before people will stop calling for a movie?

MS: I think we’re putting more pressure on ourselves than anybody else would. I think they want it. I mean, it’d be amazing if we could, by January or February, have the ball rolling and know when we were going to shoot, have a start date, or at least have some semblance of an idea, real financing. So then we could start moving forward. And you know, getting everybody together.

AVC: Have they taken any lessons from the Arrested movie development process? It’s at the point now where anyone associated with the movie gets asked about it; the expectations have built up so much.

MS: I mean, I think we all just want to do it. That’s the real driving force. And the fact that we’re fortunate enough to have, I believe, stars sign off on the idea and allow us to move forward with a movie. I think we’re all just trying to take advantage of this opportunity. And by we all, I mean I’m sitting on my ass waiting, but John and Dan and Rob are trying to move it forward for everyone’s sake so that we can continue the story. It’s such a fun atmosphere. It was like a vacation in this business. It’s like one of the best experiences I’ve had. Freaks And Geeks was also as outstanding as Party Down.

AVC: What was it about the Party Down experience that made it one of your favorites?

MS: The amazing group of talented people that we had every day, and the guest stars were incredible. I think we got really lucky, especially considering that we didn’t have anything to show people at first. From the very beginning, we still got such great people to want to be a part of it for no money. The show really didn’t pay anybody very well. But the benefit in that was, you could get people like Jane Lynch and Adam [Scott] and Lizzy [Caplan] and Ken [Marino] to sign onto something for one year for no money, hoping that this was going to be as good as it read. And it was. So everybody wanted to come on again for the second season, and it felt so good to do. Some jobs are—and I force the word “jobs” out of my mouth, because I feel like I’m lucky enough to be doing something that I love to do and it doesn’t feel like a job 99 percent of the time. But you know, this job, it was incredible. It was a vacation. It was a job you wanted to go to every single day, even at 4 a.m. when you had to be there at 5, you’re like “Ah, I get to go to Party Down this morning.

AVC: What attracted all those people to the show? Was it Paul Rudd and Rob Thomas? Was it the scripts?

MS: I knew Paul, and I think that might have been how it was posed to me. They sent me a pilot script, and the script read really well and all the characters’ voices were really clear. And that’s not something you often see in a pilot. And in the script in general, a lot of times there’ll be like, one voice. And these characters were pretty well-defined in the way that they spoke. It was easy to see it. Such a fun idea.

Good news: Listening to Adam Scott on Marc Maron's latest podcast and he just said it's looking like the movie is a definite likelihood. They have financing and are just waiting on approval from Starz, and he doesn't seem to think that's going to be a problem. Here's hoping he's right.

I am as dubious of this as I am about the prospect of a full length AD movie.
The humor in this show is largely due to each episode being framed within one event. IMO the characters are really meant to be taken seriously enough to thread them through a whole movie.

Now if the whole movie were one single event, then I think it'd make sense.

Hannahrain
11-14-2011, 12:41 PM
I get what you're saying about the format, but overall I'm definitely less dubious of this. This is still a fairly recent cancellation, for one. AD has been gone a long time. Those actors are all in totally different places now. And though it was canceled pretty early on, things were sufficiently wrapped up by the time it went off the air. Party Down's finish was a lot less satisfying.

I can think of no more slapdash an ending to a series than AD's. I know it's supposed to be sort of that way deliberately, but I still think it could have been at least funny.

But regardless of the fears about an AD movie, I would just hate to see them try to arc the characters in Party Down. They're all gratifyingly pathetic and I want to see them exactly that way for the whole movie, which I don't see as possible. I'm already dreading an opening scene where Ron loses his Souper Crackers franchise and has to round up the team again.

The series finale I'm most looking forward to at this point is Always Sunny (not that I want the show to hurry up and end, but I can't wait to see badly they all wind up)

Ron already lost Souper Crackers at the beginning of season 2. I could see them catering several events over the course of a movie. I have high hopes for the film. The cast is so funny, I'm sure they could pull it off. I'm sure Jane Lynch would probably be in it too.
