View Full Version : I'm trying to figure out what a book I read when I was younger is called

So I really liked this trilogy of books when I was younger about a girl who lived on a planet alone with a computer. She hadn't seen another human being for a long time and it was her meeting with another human who was colonizing the planet. There was a twist near the end of the first one and you find out something about her that makes her different from other humans.

There was another one about kids who got in an egg shaped thing to play a game or they thought it was a game. Every time the game sessions lasted longer.

Anyone know these books?

Was the second one mentioned Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card?

No. The kids were homeless I believe. I think I actually liked it better than Enders Game.

This doesn't really sound like what he was describing.

what are you talking about? it's an exact fit. girl alone on a planet with a computer and then humans come? and she's been genetically altered to survive? ("something different about her"). how many books like that could there be?

Where in that wiki entry do you see anything about a computer?

Edit: Fuck me. Last sentence got me. Again. Never reading the last sentences.

it is also the first of a trilogy, followed by The Guardian of Isis and The Isis Pedlar

James Joyce's Ulysses?

The beautiful part of this is that there probably aren't enough people who've read the fucking thing to say otherwise.

Though I haven't read Ulysses in its entirety, I'm confident computers don't get too much ink.

James Joyce wrote some of the most amazing "love letters". Google it.

Edit: sneak preview -

"My sweet little whorish Nora I did as you told me, you dirty little girl, and pulled myself off twice when I read your letter. I am delighted to see that you do like being fucked arseways."

All our great writers were romantics.

I've never seen farts so effectively eroticized.

Then you've never read the Marquis de Sade.

Her farts would surely give you a cockstand, forthwith.

Was he talking about queefs? I can't say I've experienced this level of actual farting he's describing. I understand that it was a simpler time.

Pretty sure he was just talking about farts.

That's it. See I tried to Google it and couldn't get the right book. Apparently you're a better googler than I.

Thanks.
