Tell that to the Staples Center. They've got thousands of unsold seats.

Maybe Jay-Z can team up with the Clippers and they'll only have the upper concourse empty.

Jay-Z bashing aside, I'd take this year's Coachella EVERY day over that crapfest lineup.

Of course, I'd share a Winnebago shower with Jay-Z before I ever watched the Dave Matthews Band whine through a set.

Stevie Wonder is a legend, mind you... but I learned my lesson from Elton John... so bloated, lifeless legends are better left unwatched. Though Stevie's probably more like Billy Joel - bloated, but knows how to entertain.

To be fair, most folks who hate on the Coachella lineup don't like Jay-Z (or Muse, lots of Muse haters)... since they have Jay-Z too, it becomes a comparison of the rest of the lineup. They don't have Gorillaz or Faith No More, two big shows that have a lot of fans... and they've got enough "oldchella" to annoy anyone.

Two years ago they had Pearl Jam and Kanye West the same night, Metallica, Robert Plant, and a robust middle of the lineup... this year they have these guys. That's probably a step backward.

Understood. I've been following the East Coast the last few years (Lolla, Bonnaroo, Voodoo) and those lineups have generally been exciting, so I'll take your word for it.

The best lineup I've seen was Lolla two years ago...
Radiohead
Rage Against the Machine
Nine Inch Nails (Lights in the Sky)
Kanye West
Wilco
The Raconteurs
Gnarls Barkley
The Black Keys
Bloc Party
BSS
...Lots of other great stuff. The Kills, the National, Innerpartysystem, Rogue Wave, The Gutter Twins, Girl Talk, Malkmus, Gogol, Yeasayer, MGMT, Ting Tings... and so forth. Tickets were $165, and there were plenty of conflicts, but NO complaints about the lineup (that weren't conflict-related).

Well, it's a good thing for Chicago, since he's a hometown boy, and he was playing opposite NIN, so nobody that wanted to see a good band had to waste their time with his show.

...and Roger Waters playing DSOTM was cool when he did it (most of it anyway) with his Pink Floyd cover band at Universal Amphitheatre 10 years ago. I definitely would have seen that, but his cover band guitarists and vocalists suck nad compared to David Gilmour, and Roger (apparently) lipsynchs now. I dunno, I would have loved to see it, but I loved seeing Radiohead, Rage, and NIN all the same.

menikmati
02-09-2010, 10:27 AM
fixed that for ya

Continue being retarded. I already stated DSOTM was the "first ever festival appearance", but that aside, you could still argue Radiohead and NIN were fucking everywhere for the last couple of years too (how many "retirement" shows did NIN end up playing anyway?). I just find it funny that the "best headliners" are bands you could have seen anytime, in any major city (except Phoenix for RH - sorry amy)...I find the booking that Lolla/ACL/C3/whatever does to be extremely lazy.
