Okay, go ahead and stone me if you wish, but I guess I'll be the first to post this in festivals. Lilith Fair coming back in 2010!

www.lilithfair.com

How many of you got your lezbro on at the Rose Bowl back in the day?

Obvious headliner = Sarah Mclachlan, but who else can we expect? Here's my guesses...many from prior years and ready for a comeback (please feel free to add)

PJ HARVEY
Regina Spektor
Tori Amos
Fiona Apple
The Gossip
Rachael Yamagata
Vivian Girls (too indie?)
Erykah Baduh
Tegan and Sara
Peaches (too crazy?)
Watson Twins
Jenny Lewis
Garbage (2010 reunion?? oh god yes!)
Imogen Heap
A Fine Frenzy
Taylor Swift (too country?)

I really don't remember much about the lineups...I would have to go look them up. My fond memories have more to do with the fact that I was with my mom than any particular artist. (Looking through the wiki entry.) I remember seeing Shawn Colvin and Emmylou Harris, definitely. Bonnie Raitt. Erykah Badu. There are some good artists on those lineups, but my memory is failing me on whether I actually saw some of them or not. :(

10-28-2009, 05:57 PM
I saw the one with Bonnie Raitt. I don't remember who else was there but I want to say Veruca Salt and Liz Phair are what got me there. I would go if the lineup included a good number of Jorge's predictions.

Totally. You could fill a three-day festival with some awesome female-fronted bands and solo acts, but it will probably be adultcontemporarychella

All the past line ups are in Wikipedia of course...

But just so you know, all those artists didn't play every date. That was every artist over all of the dates so only about 1/3 to 1/4 of those acts played each date.

faxman75
10-28-2009, 08:08 PM
I just looked at all the lineups for about 5 minutes and I can't figure out which one I was at. It says Suzanne Vega was at all three but I don't believe it, as I really like her and saw her solo back than and would not have missed her perform. I do remember Natalie Merchant being wonderful though.

As long as they are female fronted they qualify, right?

In that case:
Ladytron
Blonde Redhead
Lush
Cocteau Twins
Screaming Females

But mostly, St Vincent.

I do recall that she married her drummer Ashwin.

It was so annoying because no matter which artists was on stage somehow her husband would weasel his way in as a special guest as part of the set.

I surely wanted to puke almost of the time when this happened.

Sarah would come out and say every time, "We have a really special guest coming on stage, my husband Ash!!".

After a while it was like, "Give me an f'ing break!"

JorgeC
10-29-2009, 09:21 AM
I was at the 2nd and 3rd year. I don't remember which year I saw what, but Sarah was wonderful both years. One of the highlights was definitely Erykah Badu lookin like a giant q-tip and just singing her ass off. Good stuff I also remember, Beth Orton on the side stage, Luscious Jackson getting people to jump around and Natalie Merchant who was my ex-BFs fave at the time (Tiger Lilly/Ophelia era I believe...).

i'm reserving judgment until i see a lineup, however, this has the potential to be either the best thing ever, or the worst thing ever..

Totally. You could fill a three-day festival with some awesome female-fronted bands and solo acts, but it will probably be adultcontemporarychella

I agree, will be worst thing ever if it turns into that, but I think it has the potential to be fuckin awesome. I'll choose to be optomistic. Even if she brings some good rock (PJ Harvey, yes please!), Sarah M would be a great way to close out the night, her voice is just gorgeous (haven't seen her in a number of years so I wonder if it still is though...)

Yesss. Sadly, Lush and Cocteau Twins won't ever happen, but it would be amazing if this thing had two stages and kept all the mom rock on the main stage and interesting stuff like St. Vincent, Cat Power, Ladytron, Blonde Redhead, Amanda Palmer, Emmy the Great (ha, big chance), etc on the second.

Ok, this is very Toronto-Centric but it might be hitting your town as well. A local concert promoter has been placing ads in the local media saying that on Jan.11th details of a Toronto Islands show, including a list of performers, will be announced.

This is big stuff since Toronto Islands is a large outdoor venue with about a 30,000 capacity and there's usually only 1 or 2 shows there per year.

Virgin Festival Ontario takes place there (last year's edition being the notable exception). But VFest's lineup is usually announced only around March/April since the event takes place in September.

It ain't Warped Tour since that's taking place at Arrow Hall.

So I'm 90% certain that it will be the Lilith Fair details. If I'm right, then the details of the shows in the other cities will surely be announced on this day as well on the event's webpage.

Pilgrim, you there? Any idea what this "mystery" Toronto Islands show will be?

from wiki

The JNCO brand can still be found in certain regions in stores such as J. C. Penney, however the wide leg pants they became famous for are no longer available. The graphic t-shirts and designer jeans share very few of the characteristics associated with the brand of the 90s. According to one online store, BeWild.com, "old skool Jnco wide leg skater pants comming [sic] soon!" Their official site, as of October 9, 2009, states that it's under construction and to come back soon.

Don't expect to see Tori's name on the lineup - back in '98 she had slightly derogatory things to say about the fest: "Well, I would have a good bottle of wine with Sarah McLachlan any night of the week, but my shows are theater, and I've worked a long time to get them to this point. This isn't just about eating some chicken and hearing a few of your favorite female singers. You walk into my show, you walk into a world - it's a film every night. I can't impose that on Lilith and vice versa. Plus, I'm not into the all-male, all-female thing. Where's Dionysus? Where's Hades? You can't cut out the testosterone. And we need some pansy-ass people, too, like little camp Hermes. Even though I'm sure some of those women have more testosterone than Hermes."

There was also a new interview a few months ago where she said she supports the festival but she won't be taking part in 2010's revival, so I think that's sufficient evidence.

Run to your calendar, soccer moms! We now have official confirmation about when Lilith Fair 2010 will hit your respective city! For eight cities, at least.

The tour kicks off July 2 in Portland, Ore. and runs through Aug. 10 in West Palm Beach, Fla. Obviously, these are not the only dates on the trek, considering it will hit 36 North American cities this summer. More dates will be confirmed shortly.

Tickets go on sale March 27 through Live Nation and the Lilith Fair website for the eight dates listed below, except Cleveland. Those tickets are up for sale on April 3.

Eleven artists will play each Lilith Fair date, and the only consistent act will be headliner and co-founder Sarah McLachlan. A Lilith Fair local talent search will also be held at each date.

The lineups for each of the eight announced dates can be found on the Lilith Fair website.

Tegan And Sara, The Gossip, Sheryl Crow, Chantal Kreviazuk, LIGHTS, Cat Power, La Roux, Norah Jones, Loretta Lynn, Melissa McClelland, Indigo Girls, Metric and Erykah Badu are among those that will play select dates on the festival.

Here are the dates for Lilith Fair 2010 so far:

July 2 Portland, OR @ The Amphitheatre at Clark County
July 3 George, WA @ The Gorge Amphitheatre
July 17 Tinley Park, IL @ First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre
July 20 Indianapolis, IN @ Verizon Wireless Music Center Indianapolis

Click on this link and then on "more info" next to your city. You're actually getting a way better lineup than me up in Toronto

So only Chicago has Cat Power (so far?), so hopefully that means every other city gets a solo gig this summer.

VERY underwhelming. Sarah, Ximena and Marina are the only ones I wanna see from there. I'll have to see who they announce for the SF date.

Loge 6, Row KK, $20 for 2. I couldn't pass that up. Guess i'll be at Lilith Fair this year. Maybe I can watch this and still make it up to the Echoplex for We Are The World around midnight...hmmmm.

I just "won" two tickets for Lilith Fair, next weekend, here in San Diego. The only person on the lineup I have even heard of is Sarah Mclachlan. Are any of these others worth checking out? (http://www.lilithfair.com/events/San-Diego-CA/218/lineup) Currently wondering whether or not it's worth going.
