American Airlines has to be the shittiest way to travel ever. I would rather board one of those India trains where we are riding 400 deep on the outside a foot from death.

Fare war: American Airlines matches Southwest $25 airfare sale

American Airlines

Just what we like to see. American Airlines joined the frenzy that took over online travel booking yesterday when Southwest started its $25 national 4th Quarter Sale. The main difference I found when looking for flights on American is that it doesnít spell out where youíll find the savings. Southwest very clearly shows which destinations you could get for $25, $50, $75 or $100 each way. But when I got to the American Airlines website, I had to just type in destinations and guess.

That said, when I applied routes similar to the $25 sale on Southwest, I was able to find the same prices on American. For example, it was easy to find $25 fares between Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO). American is offering the same dates for travelóMonday through Saturday. Prices are each way based on round-trip purchase, and pre tax.

When: Buy your tickets by Oct. 29, 2009 with a 14-day advance purchase and travel Dec. 2-16, 2009, and Jan. 5 - Feb. 10, 2010

Darn you continental United States and your cheap airfares.

Courtney
10-28-2009, 03:13 PM
Also, perhaps I am not observant enough, but I don't really notice much of a quality difference between all the major legacy airlines. American seems no better or worse than United or US Air or Continental or Delta or Northwest.

I don't fly that often, but I'll choose Southwest just based on the fact of 2 free checked bags. Frontier charged for ONE bag when I flew them..forget that...so instead of a $69 ticket, it ended up being $100 to fly one way for each person. With southwest, it's what you see, what you get...or at least according to my experience. Never flown American or United or anything else, do they charge for each bag too?

mountmccabe
10-28-2009, 03:19 PM
Oooh, I need to look up what flying out to L.A. for Cold Cave, etc would cost.

I think American and United are both $20 for the first checked bag and an additional $30 for the second.

I find that it pays to be loyal to one airline (United in my case, because they have lots of flights out of Honolulu). I fly over 50,000 miles each year so I get free checked baggage, free overweight baggage, free upgrades, and such.

But if you're not a frequent flyer with special perks, it definitely makes sense to choose an airline that doesn't nickle-and-dime you with ridiculous fees.

I take it that you do not have any particular attachment to liquids such as shampoo or moisturizer, then.

not more than i can carry in a quart bag, no. I understand that it's a lot more difficult for females to not check luggage. it's a personal thing. I don't want to be seperated from my preciousssssssssssss

Courtney
10-28-2009, 03:38 PM
Haha. I get it. I try to avoid checking baggage, too. But there's only so that fits in that little ziplock baggie!

I think I read somewhere that the UK is in the process of doing away with their liquid carry on laws. I hope we're next.

I used to be like this. But with the current carry on rules, checking bags is sometimes the lesser of two very evil evils.

No Sunday travel for $25 means the flight back from LA on December 6 would be $69 plus fees and the total roundtrip after fees would be $115. That'sn't so exciting.

Though my instincts would be to drive because flying on Sunday is normal price, especially if'n we have multiple people going. I do not work for an airline, though, so, yeah.

And, really, I'm very interested even if there is flying going on.

captncrzy

I don't mind road tripping it if you don't want to fly. It's only a four hour drive from my house and I would just rent a car there anyway. Buddy pass fare would be like $100 r/t..which is exactly the same for a full fare ticket. Bah.

Honestly, it won't go on long...they only allocate a certain amount of seats at that fare. I just checked US Airways website and it looks like we are matching the Southwest fares.
