OK right now, this song sounds like the coolest thing I have ever heard (hyperbole!!), but I hear they also mis-fired alot.

Any ideas with which album to start exploring PiL or should I not even bother?

Metal Box.

As far as misfirings go, I enjoy everything they've done. But, I'm a sucker for Post-punk.

Second Edition (a.k.a. Metal Box) is their accepted masterpiece. First Edition is great. Flowers Of Romance is good. I haven't really bothered with anything after that.

Metal Box is the best starting point.

The beginning of Public Image Ltd(the song) used to be my answering machine greeting.

Oh, and if you have a turntable, I recommend Second Edition even more.

I found that on vinyl for really cheap at an Angry Samoans show once. It was pretty awesome.

I don't know why anyone distinguishes Metal Box from Second Edition any more. Unless you're going to listen on vinyl.

I wish I was that fortunate.

I wish I would have chosen "Theme" for our existential ennui board mix because that pretty much sums it more perfectly than any other song out there.

Not PIL, but one of my favorite remnants of the early 90's "rave scene". (No, I don't want to argue semantics...)

I've never listened to PIL before right now. After listening, I feel like an idiot. Why did I not look into these guys sooner? This is fucking awesome.

I saw them play when I was a lad, and had a couple of their records (Happy? and That What is Not).
I dont think my ears were "ready" yet, as it were.

This one was a cheap toss off, but it's actually one of my favorites among their more radio-friendly later period.

I'm surprised this has a video...I didn't think it was a single. Only thing I really liked from their last album, except "Acid Drops"

I realize I'm not posting their high points, just wanted to plug something other than Metal Box.

That sounds familiar. Sadly, if I went to see that tour, I probably only watched Live. I starting liking PiL after that.

Fun story.

Blind Melon didnt have a record out and wouldnt for months.
Shannon was really sweet when we ran into him outside and recognized him from the recently released "Dear Ole Dad" video. He really liked my friend's Syd Barrett shirt he was wearing (which he screened himself in art class) My friend gave him the shirt and Shannon got us into far better seats than we had. Was very nice.

We ran into LIVE in the Taco Bell across the street beforehand. One EP out and they thought they were U2 (the 1992 version of U2) what knobs.
