leaving u for a smarter coast, bbn (be back never).

In all seriousness though, I guess if nothing else I can say the four years I've spent in your slow-driving, slow-talking, slow-thinking clusterfuck of useless shitbrains were worth it just because it brought me and Coachella together. Came out of it with a good lady on my arm but I don't think California should get credit for another state's poontang.

Living in Los Angeles was like a long-term relationship with a girl who has what appears to be nice tits with her clothes on and you're out partying, but really she had a boob job botched so badly that it looks like someone performed an emergency mastectomy on her with a pair of safety scissors. And every night you look at her shirt and think that maybe it'll be different tonight. Maybe tonight she'll take off her bra and they'll be real and normal and you'll finally get to suck and fondle them with pleasure.

But no matter how long you stay with her in the hopes that it'll change, Los Angeles will always shove wonky tits in your face at day's end. And it does it without a hint of shame or self-consciousness. Los Angeles could have a duo of Quato heads in its bra and it would act like there's something wrong with you for making a big deal out of it.

I'll be back for your Coachellas and EDCs. That is all.

San Diego is where the two worst people I encountered in my time on this coast were from. San Francisco seems less lame than Los Angeles but on the other hand it seems to have ruined my brother. Santa Barbara? Palm Springs? Who the fuck wants to live in old folks' retirement destinations? Yeah, you're right, I'm not being fair to all the parts of California that have even less shit to do in them than LA.

What about Manhattan Beach? Hermosa Beach? Have you ever been to Santa Fe Springs? Would you like to hear an endless string of towns in California you could throw out and say, "THIS one could be different too. Or THIS one. Altamont! Berkeley! Chino! Moorpark! Sacramento! Can't judge a state til you've been to its capitol! NAPA!"

Alright, heading for the car now. I'll be back to describe the miraculous circumstances of how upon crossing the border out of this state I was shocked to see that in fact California is encased in an invisible dumbshit-retension shield, a la the planet with air in Spaceballs. Except instead of keeping air in, it reflects and magnifies any particles of dumb shit back down into the state ecosystem. In another two years California will be using 100 percent renewable morons.

It will also be 90 percent homosexual but still somehow get fucked out of the right to own ponies by a Mormon conspiracy.

Thank you folks, I be here all da week, please tip your servers.

stereotypes about specific ethnic/social/religious groups, while obviously not entirely representative, tend to be a little more so than stereotypes about a group (Californians) that consists of 38,000,000 people, many of which have moved here from every other state in the country, a host of nations around the globe and a few from Mars.

my blond haired blue eyed "Californian", lives next to a family from India who are Muslim, across the street from a family from Taiwan, who live next to another family from India who are Hindu. There are 2 Jewish families on the street, one from New York, one from Israel. I can't even pretend there is a generalization that could possibly describe the inhabitants of my small street.

People I meet in Irvine are vastly different than those of Santa Ana, or LA, San Francisco, Trinidad, Shasta, Crescent City, Indio, San Diego,

we have a Hispanic population that is expected to be in the majority by 2020 or ...not to mention the inherent differences in various Latin American cultures.

approximately 12.5% of our population is Asian...compared to 4.5% in the total US population

we have a 42.3 % white population, compared to a 65.6% nationwide

we have a 36.6% Hispanic population, compared to 15.4% nationwide

we have the largest Iranian population in the US

California has approximately a million Jews

The most Roman Catholics in the US

Rash generalizations are moronic. Good thing I wasn't generalizing. I wrote deliberately.

The Good:

1) The sheer scope/breadth/magnitude/magnificence/diversity/awe-inspiring beauty of its wild places.

2) Associated activities such as: running, hiking, camping, climbing, skiing/snowboarding, cycling, mountain biking, surfing, swimming, diving, etc. that can be engaged in regularly because of ideal weather conditions and close proximity.

3) Art, music, theatre in LA and SF

4)The weather

The Bad:

1) The cost of living

2) Traffic gridlock/stupid fucking drivers

3) The smog

4) The political disconnect between the liberal/progressive Larger Metropolitan Areas and the very conservative Rest of the State (this is not unique to CA but here has its own peculiar bent).

5) Corrupt and/or morally bankrupt, inept, inefficient local and state government (again, not unique to CA, but we do it with flair and before the eyes of the whole world).

6) Out-of-control ballot initiatives (which helps contribute to how inefficient and hog-tied our government can be). STOP THE MADNESS!!!

7) An aloof, stand-offish populace. Friendly enough in a superficial way, but not in a back-slapping, neighborly kind of way, which is what people from many parts of the country are accustomed to. It's what many find the most disheartening and disconcerting when they move here, and what drives them right back to wherever they came from a few years later to proclaim that CA sucks. It's a legitimate complaint.

8) The increasing severity/frequency of major natural disasters

9) The weather (hey, some people like seasons).

If the Good outweighs the Bad, you like it here. If it doesn't, you don't; whether you're native or not.

I wasn't calling you moronic by the way, you're one of the few posters that I have yet to witness venturing into "moronic" territory.

My initial question was aimed at your statement though, maybe it was my fault for interpreting it as I did, but maybe your tone was deliberate and intended to do exactly what it did.

The rest of my statements though, were directed at Gunz, I felt she was being contradictory and slightly difficult if only for the sake of being contradictory.

As for your assertion that the state is overcrowded; now that I understand you better, I agree. California could do with less Californians.

Noted. You grew up in a small CA town. But most people who come here come for city life.

It's only fair to fault other states' cities for that lack of friendliness too, then. That's not a California problem, that's a city problem.

I wasn't calling you moronic by the way, you're one of the few posters that I have yet to witness venturing into "moronic" territory.

Thank you. I'm exceptionally neurotic and second-guess everything before I post it. I find this cuts down on my naturally moronic tendencies. It also explains why I have so few posts in two and a half years of posting. Now that we're on the same page, I'll be sure to buy you a drink next April.

Home safe, Ivy back on a plane to the desert. It was a nice trip, the shittiness of all the driving aside. Much thanks to J$ and ShyGuy for housing us, sorry for everybody we were supposed to stay with but missed along the way. It was truly rather remarkable to see that something like the Coachella message board provided us with free places to stay with friends separated by eight hours' driving pretty much all the way across the country. Unfortunately we still had to bail on some of you as we were running late, but such is life.

I was wondering what the fuck I'd come back here for until we went out for Halloween night around NY. It was awful nice to be back. People were funny, they got the fuck out of the way promptly, and someone I'd just met that night wanted to get me a job paying around 100k a year.

And wouldn't you know, the craziest thing has been happening--I've been driving along highways back here and for some reason when there's a car pulled over onto the shoulder the entire highway doesn't grind to a fucking halt for no reason. Unbelievably, the cars actually just continue doing 70 right past it. Who would've imagined people could be that smart?
