I like those headliner chances....great minds think alike ;)~

If the Killers and Jack Johnson could be considered "Coachella Headliners" (me shudders) then anything is possible...yes..even Arcade Fire and Daft Punk headlining.

And if given a choice, I think it's safe to say that the majority of Coachella attendees would prefer the latter headlining.

They sold out LA Sports Arena and could have easily sold out a second night. Sold out 16,000 seat arena in LA? Check. Headlined other festivals? Check. In the US? Check. Played before as a non-headliner? Check. Has become much more popular since their last Coachella appearance? Check. Because of that Coachella set? Check.

How can anyone even suggest that Daft Punk can't headline? They were second-billed in 2006 and have only become much bigger since then :nono

BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO NEW MATERIAL!!! USE YOUR FUCKING BRAIN!!! IT WOULD BE THE SAME GOD DAMN SHOW!!!

Yeah, except for all that material they wrote for Tron. Plus the songs that they didn't throw into the mix on the last tour. Plus the countless ways they can play nothing but the old stuff, just in a different way.

good for you.

For someone who's made over 4000 posts here I would think you'd know better about this stuff. I am goin' to go out on a limb here and say you've only maybe attended a few Coachellas.

You really think that Daft Punk would recycle a show they debuted at Coachella 2006, a show which made them pretty much famous, at a headlining Main Stage spot?

have you considered the possibility that they will tour in 2011, after the movie comes out? of course you haven't. logic escapes you.

let me break it down for you. the movie comes out in December 2010. do you think it's likely that daft punk will start their tour in:

a) April 2010 (8 months before the movie comes out)?

OR

b) April 2011 (4 months after the movie comes out)?

Take all the time to think about this. I know that connecting the dots ain't that easy for you. But give it some time, and I promise that you will figure it out in the end.

Yeah, movie promotions are best when the movie has already left theaters. That trailer for The Dark Knight they showed before 500 Days of Summer kicked ass.

Dude give it up...your just doing as much speculation...you don't know if its goin' to be pushed til the summer of '11.

Who says they would be promoting Tron film anyways..sure they'll play some of their tunes from it...but I can assure you it will not be a TRON set...you will hear Daft Punk tunes..just probably a whole new set up...is that really so hard to fanthom?

crazzz2007

Dude, time to lay off the glue sniffing..I am going to have to repeat myself once more..since obviously you weren't sharp enough to catch it the first or second time..We've already conceded the fact that we are speculating...the whole game is SPECULATION, you dimwit.

No one is arguing with you there, Einstein. If you'd read the posts more closely you'd seen that.

You saying that Tron is going to be "pushed back til Summer of '11" is speculation itself.

To think that Daft Punk isn't a realistic and viable candidate to headline is foolish...and I think the majority of people playin' agree .

Everyone is so happy looking while they dance to the fun dance songs. I also heard that The Daft Punk is the biggest fun dance music group in the whole wide world. Wouldn't it be neat to have the biggest dance music group in the whole wide world at Coachella fest? That is why I want The Daft Punk at Coachella fest.

12-06-2009, 11:39 PM
You guys all have to realize that like any music festival they only choose talent that has new music (as in a new album release) within the past 8 months. Stagecoach isn't going to sign on with anything else and never seem to do unless they happen to be a re-uniting band for a headliner. So prob not !!!, & Orbital had been playing European festivals this summer, but that was 6 months ago, probably not, but who know??? As for Daft Punk, they had them in 2007 and nothing new has come of the group as well as them on the mainstage??? If you missed them in the tent that year, it was sad u did:) Think too, when have you ever seen the same band/artist 2 years in a row in the coachella lineup. Never. If a band was there last year, they aren't going to be there again... no matter how badly you want them to be. Think of this year as the following possibilities (and definately Coachella style) as a starter...

Vandaveer
The Atseroids Galaxy Tour
Imogen Heap
Empire Of The Sun
Major Lazer
Snoop Dogg
Bravery
Lady Gaga
Muse
Phoenix
Pixies
David Guetta
The XX
Little Boots
Zoe
Spinerettes
Black Eyed Peas
Jokers Of The Scene
Stone Temple Pilots

These aren't all bands I WANT to see this year but more than likely If you hear the norm Coachella style we'll be seeing them here.

Can't wait until January for the real line-up. Hope to see you guys there.

so I have a hard time believing Muse would ever get their own stage at any festival in the US.....but I also have a hard time seeing how they can do their current Euro show at the festival.

my guess is that they play friday with the stage setup the night before or they play without the moving platform stuff.

that's IF Muse plays (which we all sorta expect).

Yes

Interesting.

Eleven people picked both Muse and Beastie Boys, so if the first quote is true, then one of these acts is not headlining. Six people picked both Muse and The Who. Two people picked Muse and Rolling Stones.

Only two people guessed Gorillaz, and neither as a headliner, only one person picked each of the following as a headliner: Soundgarden, Sade, REM, Peter Gabriel, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, Foo Fighters.

I think it's Outkast. Here's why:

Outkast is a long clamored-for headliner.

Three people picked Outkast: Brandon, Lilia, and Orbit.

We know that two people got two of the headliners correct, and that someone (at least one person) got the third mystery headliner.

We know that Muse is a headliner.

Brandon's headliner picks are: Muse, Outkast, and David Bowie. Everyone knows that Bowie is a huge longshot and always will be.

Lilia's picks are: Muse, Outkast, and Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam doesn't seem to be a condender.

Orbit's picks are: Muse, Outkast, and Brian Wilson. Brian Wilson-wtf?

Idk why but looking through the list that summerkid made on the last page of possible headliner mixes... I'm thinking Muse and Clapton. He has a break in his touring schedule from mid march until mid may with no west coast dates in that run of shows. Obviously thats a big gap and this is complete speculation but it could be a possible warm up show for his run with steve winwood in may. Only one person did get the third "mystery" headliner correct and only one person picked Clapton. Lol really is a lonnnng shot though

Neil Young would be great... He still owes L.A. a show for the show he cancelled at the Forum in Oct 2008 aka one of the most pissed off days of my life.

Bob Dylan I doubt since he is going to be in Korea a week or so before Coachella

REM I seem to remember someone saying that they would not be able to be at Coachella since they would have a conflicting schedule that would be revealed shortly

I think a good reason for GV not booking him recently is they don't want to demote him. I'm pulling this out of my ass of course but I imagine if Beck has a huge album he'll headline.

This is all a moot point though, because Jane's Addiction is not one of these cases. They wouldn't be demoted even if demotions happened.

Neil Young, Muse, REM

with Soundgarden subbing to Neil Young

really? you, the creator of the lineup thread, are throwing out Young and REM? Fascinating. Scintillating. Titillating.

Not really I'm just speculating based on what vinyl said.

psycobetabuckdown
01-11-2010, 01:48 PM
if vinyl saying that brought us to REM and Neil Young, something tells me there's either something wrong with what he said or there are better choices within this thread

Reading the last few pages reminds me of those logic puzzles. One of the headliners have two drummers, and the second headliner does not have a female vocalist.

I regretted missing the original predictions, as I always have fun guessing (even when I'm wrong). Hopefully, we'll get the lineup soon, especially since the ticket pre-sale went down for a while this weekend.

Last year, the Coachella MySpace added a ton of bands to throw us off, Bowie and Boards of Canada among them.

01-12-2010, 02:00 AM
OK! Only 2 people picked Muse and Pavement! There!

and the reason no one got all 3 is because the Gorillaz are being picked as subs as opposed to headliner.

SO! Pavement/Muse/Gorillaz. A little odd but I feel that this is right.

(probably not but hey I gave it the best stab I could)

Monklish
01-12-2010, 02:20 AM
You seriously think Muse, Gorillaz, and Pavement are the headliners? Please.

TeamCoachellaHellYeah
01-12-2010, 02:30 AM
Pavement is really the only odd man out. The other 2 fit. And its not The Rolling Stones or U2.

Monklish
01-12-2010, 02:36 AM
No it isn't. But it also isn't Pavement. You're all fucking nuts for thinking they're that big.

TeamCoachellaHellYeah
01-12-2010, 02:38 AM
I don't think they are that big. I am merely making the guess based off on Jeff's comment that only 2 people got 2 of the headliners right. And I know its not the Rolling Stones.

No way it's Pavement. It must be something else. Just because he said that two people got two headliners correct doesn't mean that they both picked the same one.

Come on, it's Algebra 102.

stephen22

if the headliners were Pavement-Gorillaz-Beasties...then I would be expecting a big headliner to be added after the initial lineup. Maybe that would be wishful thinking.

If Gorillaz is there, but as a headliner, do I still get 1 point even though I didn't pick them as a headliner?

I probably underestimated the drawing power of that average band.

captncrzy

Yes. You get a point if you picked a band to be there but just in the wrong spot.
