I was able to actually start reading Russian after only two weeks there. I wasn't actually "reading" it in a technical sense, but recognizing certain combinations of lines and shapes to mean words. Especially those related to travelling by train.

Haha, that's about the extent of my knowledge too, I didn't mean to imply otherwise. But I was forced to learn enough to get by when I visited central Siberia. They really don't speak English in places like Irkutsk!
