David Lowry is a better song writer than Malkmus

Damn.. first you said The Gorge > Red Rocks, and now this? Watch out or a bunch of indie rock hipster kids are going to attack you in a whirlwind of tight denim.

From earcandyblog twitter:

Live Nation is replacing the main stage at the Gorge with a new, upgraded stage. It'll be in place for Sasquatch! along w/other improvements

I lived thru Pavement the first time in the 90s and found them crawling ever-forward into the Kingdom of Boringvania.

My pre-Coachella research into their discography confirms these findings.

It's the sound of a sleepy Triscuit farting.

can't say i lived through it in the 90's since i was a wee lad then but i had friends in high school that were really into pavement and i just never got it. i've tried to revisit their material over the years but nothing stands out to me.

listening to pavement makes me think of eating a very, very plain room-temperature hamburger. sure its palatable in that there's nothing really not to like about it, but there's just nothing appetizing about digesting pasty carcass bread sludge. where's the moisture?

retarded analogy. sleepy triscuit farting works too.

I think Cracker/Camper is simliar in style and lyrics, in fact, dare I say David Lowry is a better song writer than Malkmus?

Expected Bobert.

I wonder what that main stage is gonna look like.

Hand Banana, I just posted this pic on the Sound Opinions board. I think it's my favorite picture of the Gorge.

Picture Massive Attack hitting the stage shortly after the sun setting.

Saying the Gorge is more beautiful or a better concert venue than Red Rocks isn't as unpopular as you think. Red Rocks is more intimate, so it has that going for it. The Gorge is easily twice as big.

When my friends and I were walking back to the campground after the Flaming Lips we were recalling the Zeppelin cover when the naked girls got onstage. I remarked that I thought there were at least twenty naked girls who got up there. My buddy laughed and said he'd be amazed if there were more than ten. I think the actual number was five girls, but you'd surprised how a handful of mushrooms could skew your perspective a bit. I still like my version of the story better.

I love the onsite camping - that's half the fun of the festival IMO. I've camped there all three years I've gone and plan to again this year. I feel like all the complaints about noise are very exaggerated - but if you don't like to stay up late and party earlplugs may be a good idea. I've never done the premier camping and have heard varying reports and whether it is any better than standard camping. Try and camp close to the campground entrance if possible - will shorten your walk to the venue and despite what some people in this thread have said you can leave the campground in your car, which is nice if you need to hit up a store. There's also a swimming area in the river that is 15 minute drive from the campground - great way to start the day and saves you a trip to the showers.

Cut the shit and quit your bitching. How many more times do you think MA is going to play the Gorge? Can you think of a band more fitting to watch in that setting?

Will Massive Attack play Red Rocks? Probably. If they tour again in 2-3 years will they play Red Rocks? Probably. Will they play the Gorge again? Nope. One time deal. Just my opinion but I wouldn't want to pass it up.

This was a response to a question I was asked, Fax, not an invitation for one of your pointless pissing matches. The fact that I've camped in the campground doesn't make me an authority, it just allows me to speak about own experiences, which is all boardwoozel asked me about. All three years I've attended I left the campground in my car and returned without a problem. I'd say that's consistent. I don't know who Heidi is and I certainly didn't call her a liar and I'm sorry her experiences leaving the campground wasn't as smooth as mine has always been. Everyone knows you're the authority round these parts, Fax. I'm sorry you take things so personally.

If you get into the on site camping later you're going to have a hard time sleeping(if you want to) because of noise. If you get there early though within a few hours of it opening then you won't have any problems with noise. Last year I got there and maybe 1000 people tops were there by then. It was a giant, loud party all day granted, but once nighttime rolled around the area I was in was the most quiet and darkest around. If you get there early chances are everyone around you are going to be passed out or partying somewhere else when sleep time rolls around. I don't mind the noise and have no problems falling asleep but if you do just get there early in the day Friday, you'll be set. Also, sleep is for when you're at home and have to work or go to school the next morning, not when you're gonna stand outside and watch music all day. I guess my priorities are mixed because I think having fun with the Canadians in the campground is way better than sleeping away the party in my tent.

D, there aren't any bad views from main stage. It's absolutely amazing. On the other hand, the small stages have nothing for view.

The pit area is paved in concrete and slopes downhill towards the front of the stage. If you're standing at the back of the pit the people in the front row are standing several feet lower than you - makes for unbelievable, unobstructed views of the bands. For any of you that are short and routinely have your site-line blocked, this is your venue.

I may have brought it up, since I'm 5'2" :) This is the only venue I've been to where I can actually see the stage from the pit.

You're not really endearing yourself to me. :) I never said my camping experience was poor -- it was pretty much what I expected it to be, since I have friends who've been going to Sasquatch and camping there since 2002.

FWIW, the campgrounds rules are that you can't leave and re-enter the campground. I know some people were able to do so without problems. I know some people who were told they had to have a camping ticket (ie, unused) to enter with their car again and who felt swindled but Sasquatch did nothing about it because the rules do say you can't come back in. *shrug*

Erika and I have tried to see as much of WA State as we can, so last Sasquatch we stopped off in Roslyn, where they filmed Northern Exposure:

And this year we plan on stopping by the 'Bavarian' village of Leavenworth:

Wait... what the fuck is this?

Broken Social Scene
As a core six-piece who had spent most of 2007 and 2008 on the road, Drew, Canning, Spearin, Whiteman, Goldberg and Peroff spent early 2009 working on new material in Toronto. The pairing down of the band's massive personnel list for the first time proved extremely fruitful; they created spacious songs written as a band by a band, resulting in more cohesive, melody-driven compositions than previous BSS output.

Broken Social Scene are now a six-piece? Not a 15-22 piece?

They were amazing whe I saw them in 2005. That day they were a 17 piece. They line up varied by show, but it used to be anywhere between 15-22 people. There is no way they would be able to sound as good with less people. Im sure they would still sound great, but not amazing.

It was this part....

The pairing down of the band's massive personnel list for the first time proved extremely fruitful

... that leads me to believe the band will be touring as a six-piece. If they are touring with the full band, I have no issue. BSS are just one of the main reasons I want to attend Sasquatch this year and if it isnt the full band...

just to see it all laid out in a more familiar format.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v729/clumsy342/Mondaysas-1.jpg

Nice, huh?
This really isn't meant to be used for speculation.. since Sasquatch goes in order of billing. The only thing I wonder about is whether Pavement will play a longer set? (like NIN and Jane's last year)

EDIT: just to be clear, I made this for myself and thought it looked nice.. so I thought I'd share.

You're not really endearing yourself to me. :) I never said my camping experience was poor -- it was pretty much what I expected it to be, since I have friends who've been going to Sasquatch and camping there since 2002.

I honestly was just trying to answer someone's question - this wasn't a personal attack. The things I addressed in my response to boardwoozel were things I had read about the Gorge campground in this thread that were simply contrary to my experiences - nothing more. So when I said that the noise was never an issue for me, it just may have been that I got lucky enough to camp next to really respectful groups of people each time. That doesn't mean I was accusing anyone who had trouble with the noise of lying. Same with the in/outs.

Also, the swimming area that we always go to is on the other side of the river in Vantage. It's like a 15 minute drive from the campground - you take the I-90 across the bridge - that's primarily what my group has always left to go do. I agree that the Colombia is no mountain spring, but it's a nice way to cool off every morning and a lot faster than waiting in line for the showers.

Oh, I never felt noise was an issue either for sleeping -- it's a music festival, bring earplugs, right? Our neighbors at the gorge campgrounds were pretty cool. In fact, I am pretty sure a few of us decided to go to Glastonbury this year partially based on a chat with our Sasquatch camping neighbors.

The only noise issue we had was people with their awful bloody MGMT remixes nonstop :D

Yep, there was an epidemic of that last year. I think all the Canadians caught on to MGMT a year later than everyone else, and by then I was so over that album. I wonder if they've wore their welcome out at Sasquatch before they even stepped on stage (but that seems unlikely.)

rage patton
02-18-2010, 11:55 AM
Ok, I got pretty nerdy and counted up how many acts are on each stage per day (so far):

Saturday
Sasquatch - 9
Wookie - 7
Yeti - 7
Dance Tent - 4

Sunday
Sasquatch - 8
Wookie - 8
Yeti - 6
Dance Tent - 4

Monday
Sasquatch - 8
Wookie - 7
Yeti - 6
Dance Tent - 3

Besides the dance tent, which has increased, does that look comparable to other years? I know there will be adds, of course.

Based on the past 3 years schedules, there are always 9 acts on the Sasquatch stage, 8 on the Wookie and 7 and on the Yeti. So yes, adds will be coming.

Also, I totally called No Age closing the Yeti. That will be a fun set.

Amy, I wouldn't worry about it too much yet. There will probably be other people flying in late. I came in very late the first year... have to say it sucked, because we couldn't get groceries that night, drove through the night and didn't really get to sleep. Last year, we arrived between 8-9PM, I think, went grocery shopping, and it was like 11PM before we were on the road. So this year I was hoping to arrive a little earlier.

I also have trouble getting time off work that weekend, but am still trying to find a way to take Friday off or maybe half of Friday. It would be great to actually get to the campground in daylight and have time to hang out with people.

At least the Yeti and Sasquatch stages aren't too far away from each other.

The quote earlier about the upcoming main stage upgrade jives with the developments I saw while at the Gorge for Phish in August. For instance, the water bottle refill station near the food court/Yeti stage area now has a small(ish) 2 story building located there. I couldn't tell exactly what its function was, but it did have a deck off of the 2nd story w/ an unobstructed view of the stage (it also didn't obstruct any views either).

Oh free water bottle refill. I forgot about you.

For those of you used to only Coachella, two somewhat insignificant but awesome things about Sasquatch are that there are free water refill stations in a couple of areas (as well as potable water from sinks) and you are allowed to take in containers; and that the port-a-potties somehow stay reasonably clean and un-stinky all night. Like so clean and unstinky that you start to wonder WTF kind of animals attend Coachella.

Josh, the main campgrounds doesn't "sell out" of spaces, does it? I thought they just kept filing people in. We'll figure out something at WH for the people who want to camp there, or at worst we'll have a contingent at the main campgrounds too.

I do recall them checking for wrist bands at wild horse. I could swear we had to show wrist bands even when we came back from the grocery store one morning too. Do you recall this at all Heidi or were they more lax than I recall? They definitely check them when you get on the bus to come back to the camp ground from the fest at least the bus driver I had did, I know we didn't all come back together.

They do have writst bands at wildhorse. When you first arrive they have a list of names on a clipboard of who made the reservation. They find your name cross it off and count how many are in your car and then issue wrist bands to everyone in the car.

Main campgrounds or wild horse? I did not see any food vending at the main campgrounds. It's possible they had something somewhere but I only saw the store which had snacks, beverages, ice, etc. Wild horse does have a grill and has a menu posted on their site.

Inside the venue, there is some vegetarian food but not much. I believe there was some type of asian food - Thai or Vietnamese? I can't remember. Cheese pizza. They had fries and nachos and that sort of thing, and a couple of booths doing ice cream and junk food/snacks.

You are probably better off bringing your own food into the venue, which is permitted. The rules say something like that you can bring a small amount of food in a clear plastic bag, but in reality people bring multiple grocery bags full of food, or soft side coolers, or even picnic baskets, and no one says a thing.

I went from 90% chance of going to this from 50%. I think my main reason to go would be to see the Gorge and Seattle. Since, MMJ and MA will probably be playing the Greek here in Berkeley. The rest of the line up is made of acts I could probably see here in the Bay Area/Coachella. Still stunning line up though. Its nice to see a festival take a real chance on the headliners unlike some other big fests.

If anyone has a car, SUV or truck that can fit more than 4 people you guys can camp and pay cash at Wildhorse as long as you already have a paid reservation. I think someone said it was $10 cash each per person for any more than 4 in a vehicle.

Here's what the Wildhorse page says.

This reservation is for the Sasquatch Music Festival event at the Gorge Amphitheater for the entire Weekend.

This allows you access to the Campground and does not include access to the concert event. Those Tickets must be purchased separately.

Please select your choice of Reservation below.

Both options include up to 4 Occupants arriving together, which will be wrist-banded at the gate upon arrival. Only authorized guests with wrist bands will be allowed access to the Campground. If your Group includes more than 4 members or late arrivals, additional wrist bands may be purchased with cash at the Gate upon arrival.
Food and Ice is also available for purchase on site. Remember to bring cash for these items, as we do not accept Credit Cards or Checks at the site.

Sorry all Reservations for this Event are SOLD OUT
