I guess they were unusually early last year.
but I don't see the purpose in waiting.

They've been released before May every year that I recall. Less than 4 weeks away now... :(

Clearly they're trying to build anticipation for when they drop the Atoms For Peace addition on us to accompany the set times :) Clearly.

Really though, this is a most unpleasant deviation from past editions. Booo-hissss.

The Sasquatch blog has some ideas concerning the Bigfoot late stage:

A couple words about the BigFoot Late stage, which Deadmau5 is playing on Saturday night, and Booka Shade is playing on Sunday night, according to the Sasquatch main page. In the past, the Bigfoot/Wookie was scheduled to end around 10pm, even though it has gone later based on delays. With additional slots on the Bigfoot/Wookie this year, we've already discussed a Deadmau5 10:30pm to midnight show, so this may be the definition of Bigfoot Late, since it is much later than any other year. It could be later though.

Bjork was scheduled to play until 12:30am at Sasquatch 07 on the mainstage, which is the latest anyone has been scheduled. There have only been a couple instances when music was still playing around 1:00am, and one memorable occasion was weather related. There is a county noise curfew, and the campground has always had a 2:00am noise curfew, so you shouldn't expect a late show approaching 2:00am, but it's very possible we see an act scheduled past Bjork's 12:30am ending slot three years ago. We'll soon find out.

I can't believe there aren't set times yet.

And I think Deadmau5 and Booka Shade will each start at 12, regardless of how long the headliners play. Thats just what I think.

There'll be late night dance sets on the Bigfoot stage after headliners between 11:30-12:30 on Sat & Sun

FYI, the #Sasquatch daily schedule *should* be available in next few days. They're waiting for iPhone & Droid app approval b4 releasing it.

Hey, I enjoy the new Vampire Weekend album. Even though I didn't want to. Plus, it's right before MMJ and I will have anxiety if I don't stake my claim to the ideal MMJ spot during the prior act. Nada Surf doesn't mean enough to me to leave the main stage at that time.

Sure, what the hell, I'll take your suggestion. I'll be there.

I'm still not able to process that I'm going to be seeing Laura Marling, Portugal. The Man, Broken Social Scene, The National, and My Morning Jacket on the same day. Then Caribou and Local Natives as the first 2 acts on Sunday. Stupid good, for my tastes.

Carry on. Just had to voice my dissenting opinion. I usually don't rant strongly against a band but I really hated this album and the youtube clips i've seen are even worse. Neon Indian made the Ween choice easy for me. I don't listen to Ween with any regularity but they are at least decent musicians.

ETA those were the better sounding Neon Indian clips I found by the way. I had another ready to post but it was far worse.

I need to listen to more of their catalog, actually. I wasn't crazy about some of the songs I heard off of their first album, but I'm going to see them solely because of the strong recommendation of them from this board.

Seriously, I'm not even sure if much research is worth your time. Their songs are fleshed out and sound pretty different live. In a good way. They are an excellent live band. I think you should just take the leap of faith and leave if you get bored.

meh. I was psyched about Ween for a few days... then I started looking at some of their recent setlists.

How does Ween play live shows... but not play Spirit of '76 and Push the Little Daisies? And really, even if Dean Ween personally promised me to play both of those songs... I still would consider watching Neon Indian and Boyz Noize instead.

Ween has played Push the Little Daisies Freedom of 76' live. I don't know how often but they have played them both within the last couple of years.

If you're watching Ween because you're trying to hear good music that isn't annoying, then idk wtf you're doing really.

What I'm trying to say is that all Ween songs are annoying fucking songs.

If I were to watch them, it would be more about nostalgia and spectacle than about actually enjoying music.

I am not finished checking out the bands I wasn't familiar with (mostly earlier in the days) but, maybe:

Saturday:
Shabazz Palaces -> Fool's Gold -> Minus the Bear -> Portugal. the Man -> The Middle East -> (some of) Edward Sharpe -> The Lonely Forest -> Miike Snow -> The National -> Nada Surf -> Z-Trip -> Deadmau5

Sunday:
Caribou -> Local Natives -> Jets Overhead -> Cymbals Eat Guitars -> Kid Cudi -> Freelance Whales -> The XX -> LCD Soundsystem -> Dirty Projectors (some of) -> Pavement -> Massive Attack -> Booka Shade

Monday:
(Either Jaquar Love or Shadow Shadow Shade) -> Yes Giantess -> Temper Trap -> Quasi -> Passion Pit -> She & Him -> (some of) Mountain Goats -> Hudson Mohowake -> Neon Indian -> (some of) Ween -> Boyz Noize (some of)

That could change a lot though.

Fancy, it makes absolutely no sense to say you think that basically all Ween songs are annoying yet you're still entertained by them at all. Most fans only find a few songs per album to be annoying nonsense. They have 17 albums of original songs with plenty that aren't annoying at all.

Have you heard this one?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c5/Ween-12GoldenCountryGreats.jpg

Or either of these?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1e/Ween-WhitePepper.jpg
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e2/Ween_-_Shinola%2C_Vol._1.jpg

I don't see how you could find most of the songs on these albums to be annoying. Lots of it is really just generic but good rock music.

I've only gone two years, but each year, I've appreciated a light jacket or hoodie at night, though it wasn't *cold* by any means while still in the venue. It gets a little chilly at night, but you'd be fine in a sleeping bag. ( :nono ) The weather during the day can vary quite a bit from day to day. Each year there has been a day that was actually pretty hot and sunny.... but we're talking like mid-80's hot, not Coachella hot. And in 2008, it absolutely poured for hours. A windbreaker would not have helped much. Ponchos were needed.

I guess the reason that the Gorge is 800 miles inland is so that you at least get a crap shooter's chance at some nice weather. Whereas in Seattle proper it would be useless 358 days a year.

You mentioned crap shoot ....................... which is a great way to describe the weather at the Gorge.

I was uncomfortably hot in '05.
Hail in '06 literally stopped performances. Neko Case had to run off stage.
'07 had high winds which shut down the main stage for ~2hrs.

I'm bringing jeans, a fleece, a good rain/wind jacket & rain pants in addition to normal shorts and tees.

Yea, for the girls :) in the past I brought 1-2 sundress/skirt summer type outfits, a pair of pants, a couple of short sleeve shirts, a fleece, a windbreaker, a long poncho, and something warmer to sleep in or put on at night if I'm cold.

It's the only festival I've been to that I'd encourage over-packing of clothes.

Edited to add: also starting last year, I'm trying to bring clothes that dry quickly. Jeans were a bad idea in 08.

The Sasquatch schedule sure is treating me right. Even with the few conflicts that I have, I will still be afforded 30 minutes at a stage before I have to move on, which really isn't bad at all. I'm also afforded the opportunity to see ~30 minutes of both MA and Pavement, two bands that I've already seen and had written off in favor of the Dirty Projectors and SMD, so that's pretty cool as well.

I will also be hitting up Bobcat Goldthwait, whom I've seen do stand-up on TV, which was totally hilarious.

I'm in the minority here - there are 3 comedy acts I really want to see: Patton Oswalt, Mike Birbiglia and Garfunkle & Oates. I've seen Patton live at Bumbershoot and he is amazing. I also saw Bobcat live at Bumbershoot and he is great live. Both did a lot of fresh, festival-specific material when I saw them, but I want to catch Fresh Espresso and that's a Bobcat conflict.

Birbiglia is a funny story teller who makes me laugh out loud in public when he's on the radio, but I've never seen him live. His voice is kind of soft, tho', so I'm worried about getting up close to hear him if the bleed into the Rumpus Room is anything like last year ...

Fuck yes. I'd be totally fine if they played a 3 hour set to end the Main stage.

One of my favorite aspects of the Gorge is how once the sun sets, all of the hot air gets sucked down towards the river and creates a nice breeze that pulls all of the warmth from the baked landscape and pulls in the coolness of the night. You put on the hoodie that you had in your backpack all day, enjoy the rest of your evening and then amble back to your campsite once everything is over where you've still got a cooler full of beers and people to shoot the shit with.

This is the environment that I look forward to seeing the aforementioned songs played in.

Rage, are you in our camping? I'd like to finally meet you.

Yes, I am camping in Wild Horse. My fiancee and I are coming up with Mark O. I am looking forward to finally meeting you too.

Does Wild Horse normally allow the reserving of spots?

chiapet
05-07-2010, 10:16 PM
Officially no, they don't. You arrive, you park. But it's a really small place, and the year we camped there, they mentioned they were holding a bit spot for a group that came in from Canada in separate cars.

They are really, really nice people. If we don't make it a huge hassle, I think we'll be okay. I was going to email him earlier that week and let him know the total # of cars, and I think if the first people there remind them, they'll try.

chiapet
05-07-2010, 10:23 PM
To add, that was also the motivation for trying to consolidate carpools as much as possible and also trying to arrive (generally) in groups. I don't think it's possible for us all to show up at once but maybe 3 or 4 groups instead of like 15 separate arrivals?

Also, I could give you guys a ring when we're fairly close, so we can give them warnings.

Well done clumsy, I knew that you'd come through on that.

As far as camping goes, it looks like I'll be first out there to WH. I'll be departing Seattle Friday morning as soon as I can assemble the three passengers that I'll have at my home into my car with a probable stop-off at the grocery store on the way. We should hit WildHorse by noon and will seek out the largest corner that we can be alloted, giving the attendant the info that we're part of a large group wanting to be around each other.

MAN. I have not given Caribou a fair chance - had only listened to a track here and there since the last full album I listened to several years ago. I am loving the new album. There will be much spazzy dancing to this.

How is he live? He performs with a live band, right?

Nice, I'm actually really excited for Caribou. I've never seen them before, but I've read and heard that their live show is pretty awesome. This tour they have even improved upon the live experience and have added a lighting element that is supposed to mesh with the music really well. Unfortunately, their time slot will prevent us from bearing witness to it, which is why I'm seeing them at Neumos in Seattle the Thursday before Sasquatch. This should bring some up to speed.

Brad is an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington in 1992. Brad's sound is influenced by the wide variety of influences brought by its members, including Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam, Regan Hagar (Satchel and formerly a member of Malfunkshun), Shawn Smith (also a member of Pigeonhed and Satchel), and Jeremy Toback. The distinctive vocals of Smith are a major factor in this sound.
