The leaked fake lineup last night included Bowie and my heart always stopped, but alas, it was just a cruel joke. Just a taste of the tomfoolery soon to start up on this board regarding our beloved Coachella.

Hyper music: Muse leads Big Day Out youth focus

British rock trio Muse will headline next year's instalment of the Big Day Out.

After most recently dabbling with a heritage rock act — Neil Young — as the headline attraction, next year's event will instead skew decidedly younger.

Acts on the bill include British singer-songwriter Lily Allen, Australian rock giants Powderfinger, American rockers the Mars Volta, UK duo Groove Armada, London MC Dizzee Rascal, US hard-rock acts Mastodon and Rise Against, Britpop quintet Kasabian, art-rockers the Decemberists, moody British goths the Horrors, electronic acts Calvin Harris, Peaches and Ladyhawke as well as American DJ Girl Talk.

Locals acts the Temper Trap, Midnight Juggernauts, Magic Dirt, Lisa Mitchell, Bluejuice, Kisschasy, Tame Impala, Eskimo Joe and Grinspoon round out the bill.

Rumours circulating online in recent weeks suggesting David Bowie was on the bill were refuted yesterday by organisers.

Muse, who have sold an impressive 35,704 copies of their new album The Resistance in its first 10 days on sale locally, are this week in the US playing a bundle of stadium dates with fellow rock superstars U2.

In an exclusive interview for this Friday's EG, frontman Matt Bellamy told The Age his band would bring a huge stage set to Australia.

"I prefer outdoor shows because you get the feeling everyone is out for a good time," Mr Bellamy said.

"So that makes up for any compromise needed on the production side. We've always used music and video in combination with our theatrical moments.

"The design of the stage brings across certain ideas that we always have been interested in. The show is a combination of the production, the crowd size and music all trying to live up to one another."

Mr Bellamy said overseas bands flock to the Big Day Out for its relaxed touring vibe and as an escape from chilly northern hemisphere winters.

"Us English people, at that time of year, are depressed and jaded because it gets so miserable," he said.

"It's a party every night. It always seems to rescue us."

Pretty crummy lineup. Of the 15 internationals announced, 8 of them have toured Australia in the last year, mainly at other festivals. The only act that hasn't toured before are The Decemberists.

I totally agree. Apart from the Decemberists and Kasabian. It's a bit of a snooze fest.

Anyway....

The above is a festival - we just have a lot more one day touring festivals then destination festivals.

Sasha was added last week, and there is talk that The Dead Weather will be added to the bill but they said that last year about The Saboteurs and that never happened.

There are, but those people don't know what bands are playing.
