I was surprised how much I enjoyed her SNL set. It wasn't earth-shattering, but it was respectful and showed an interest in both entertaining the crowd and presenting something different and reverential of the surroundings.

Too many hip indie bands go on SNL and simply shuffle their feet while they mouth their "hits" on those sort of shows. I recall falling in love with The White Stripes based on seeing them on one of the late night shows for one song - if you can grab someone in those three minutes, baby, you got something.

probably late night when Conan was there. he had them play a full week at one point.

Biggest pop star could be Beyonce or Taylor Swift. And it could be a male, too. Justin Timberlake might have qualified for the title a couple of years ago, but I don't know about nowadays.

Only if they bring back live comedy! I'd bake in 100 degree heat for "Motherlover" or one of his SNL skits before I would for "Sexyback".

I just dont see what's so great about over played generic songs sung by a talentless rip-off publicity artist. Maybe its the dope talking though :rolleyes

One wonders who the biggest pop artist is now? It might be Lady Gaga, but she's only rolling off a year of being a top act. Jay-Z? He's a big name, sure... but some country bumpkins haven't heard a note of his "big" songs.

My current choice: The Black Eyed Peas. They've got multiple platinum albums, huge tours, and a bunch of Top 10 charting songs that you'd literally have to be DEAD to avoid. Turn on an MLB, NBA, or NFL game... they're there. Turn on a hit movie... they're there. Absolutely unavoidable.

And you know what? They have nothing on their tour calendar after April 11! (Thank God they're playing L.A. at the E.N.D. of March....)

Black Eyed Peas already played Coachella once...they sucked then and they suck even more now.

I have no idea why anyone like GaGa. She is the epitome of crappy generic pop music.

Well, to be fair, she epitomizes the essence of pop music, and adds to its tarnished image by writing her own stuff, playing an instrument, putting on a flashy show, and using her looks to her advantage in the media, and having a massive gay following.

Wait a minute, why am I explaining this to you? You fucking suck and so does your opinion. There.

from diplo's twitter: we are gonna party in the USA .. march and april!! @majorlazer http://twitpic.com/xvu98 (poster for Major Lazer's "Lazers Never Die Tour")

granted, the united states contains many locations. this doesn't mean anything. but you know, maybe it does.

Major Lazer is playing Reno 4/14/10

called it.

Boys Noize, Major Lazer, Proxy all confirmed.. odd, that's the lineup for HARD NYC (which also features Buraka Som Sistema.. which would be a very popular, and not unlikely repeat), and for SOME reason, the HARD SF lineup is being put off being announced... hmmm

Agreed, how the hell would all of those bands fit on the 2nd and 3rd lines. That being said, PLEASE make this be the real deal!! This is a fucking dream list!! The only way I could justify this many great subs would be by saying that they saved money on the headliners this year if Jay-Z really is headliner #3. (which I'm praying he's not.) C'mon, man. Not even considering the hot hipster acts, pick a Top 3, then a subheadling 3, then tell me who gets the third line out of these: Beasties, FNM, Flaming Lips, Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem, Moby, Muse, Mars Volta, Pavement, Soundgarden, Spoon, Vampire Weekend, Wilco.

Of those, there are AT LEAST seven legitimate headlining possibilities. You can't put acts like Flaming Lips, Faith No More, and Soundgarden on daytime 50-minute sets.... it jsut ain't gonna happen... and you can't overload the top end with a bunch of non-hipster acts.

But I'll gladly eat my words if this happens. That would be amazing.

They sub'd at Voodoo last year (played before Lenny Kravitz) and it was kind of sad - with their stage show, confetti, rolling around in a ball... the show seemed over before it even started, and they had 1:15 to play. I cannot imagine them playing for less than that.

Their music is pretty good too! Maybe they'd do a complete set of their new Dark Side of the Moon cover album.... that would be a great late-night show, post headliner, even. Not gonna happen, but it'd be cool.

The Flaming Lips can headline as long as they stop bullshitting inbetween songs. the show is really cool, but Wayne spends too much time trying to hype the audience up and whatnot. Also, drop the slow versions of your songs. Sing-alongs are cool and all, but not as cool as the regular versions.

QFT. In 2001, I worked for my university's production office (we put on shows) and we brought Black Eyed Peas to campus and they put on a fantastic show. There was zero talk back then about them being bubble gum pieces of shit with no cred (which represents the bulk of talk about them now, and it's true).

Bummer because now I can never tell the story (good one with my then-boyfriend smoking blunts and playing video games with Taboo). The looks of disdain about their now-shitty music, image and presence overshadows all.

As for Jay-Z, yes, I have heard that Jay-Z is the third headliner, but I have heard it the same was that you all have. Rumors. Blog comments. I am not 100% sold on his appearance. I will not be surprised if he is on the poster as the headliner, but for now, I can not confirm that he is it, because I simply do not know more than you on this one.

The Smiths are not playing. Come on...

I am not sure that his 3/26 or whatever date would violate the contract. I am not even sure that these contracts always exist and they can make exceptions. However, this rumor came out of nowhere and I have yet to see any kind of indication that it's actually happening. Monklish saying she wouldn't be surprised is new though.

I'm gonna be honest here, if Jay-Z is the third headliner I'm gonna be a lil' disappointed.

can we please stop all Jay-Z and Lady Gaga talk. Neither are playing. Jay-Z is headlining staples center at the end of March so he's out of the running. Gaga has dates in Japan during Coachella so she's not playing.

Most likely, yes. Coachella always has that little tinge to it, though. I will learn to accept it, 'cause I love the fest otherwise, and there's tons of other stuff going on at all times...

On the Jay-Z thing it doesn't really matter what she says, because she specifically says she doesn't know anything. Grant asked for the quote though.

On other things it's good to get her opinion because she obviously has a source and I've never seen her lie or bullshit. There is no one I can get that kind of reliability from on this board.

Paul McCartney, The Cure last year, for starters.

I haven't followed the exact dates that she's predicted stuff this year but I know she broke Iglu and Hartly and I think the Antlers this year. Whether you care about those acts is another story but there are plenty of acts on her list that no one was talking about until they were there.

You don't get it. I didn't say she knew everything, I said she obviously has someone giving her info. Her post from October isn't meant to be a confirmed list (that's why she has "doubt it's" after some of those acts). I never claimed she works for GV or anything, just that she has more trustworthy info more often than anyone on this board.

Besides, she was right - we had a promotion, someone new, and a repeat act headlining.

Fixed for believability.

^I actually like this lineup better than the one I suggested - beastie boys stopped being relevant decades ago. And I cant remember who said there were 8 potential headlineres on my list, but my fake guess only had six "potential" headliners (Muse/Jay/BBoys/Gorillaz/Soundgarden/White Stripes) all of which you could see (and sometimes have seen) subheadlining or headlining at any major music festival - and if this was Lolla or Bonnaroo i guarantee no one would be saying that's too many big acts. By the way, the only reasons i included the White Stripes were (1) it is by far the easiest headliner to organize on an impromptu basis - they never have a setlist or a real plan for their performances and the stage setup is pretty simple, (2) there's a rumor, albeit probably unfounded, that jack white wants to be there, and (3) havent we heard enough of the dead weather? - i like them, but they did the festival thing last year.

So...this line-up is bound to be stacked with excellent subs, mad good smaller acts, and at least one totally bad-ass headliner. YES!

If Gorillaz, Orbital, LCD, and Thom Yorke are all on the poster, I might shed a tear.

Yes, that list is gorgeous but the problem is this: It's all bands that we've discussed. And we're never that accurate... we just wouldn't be allowed that level of happiness.

Just run under the assumption that 70% of that list, at most, is correct. I still only believe that Muse is playing.
