I'm not saying it was a bad vibe. But you've been to previous Coachellas, right? It didn't feel like Coachella to me as much as an experience in itself. Which is what the Rolling Stones would be like.
You sort of sound like a hippie. If Coachella is about that peace/love vibe to you then who am I to argue?
i've seen the Stones in a large outdoor enviroment with about 60,000 people, i've seen Macca at Coachella, i've seen Roger Waters at Coachella.
i disagree with you.
and it's pretty funny you think im a hippie.

i agree.. however, i've been to Tool shows that WEREN'T like that, and i'll tell you why.. BOTH Tool in '06 and Rage in '07 had those kind of crowds because it was a huge return show (Tool after an extended hiatus, Rage was a reunion), that brought out the most die-hard fans of each act (& in the Rage case, because they were led to believe it would be the only chance to see them).. Tool having made the rounds would DECREASE the presence of this kind of crowd, and Tool at Coachella 2010 would be nothing like Tool at Coachella 2006.
Ummm, not true. It was pretty bad at APW this year with Tool fans. The Tool doucheness was running rampant and was fucking terrible during MBV. I wasn't up front for Massive Attack in '06 but I'm guessing it must've been comparable to MBV's treatment. Tool attracts that kind and size of crowd ALL THE TIME.

are you talking a few individuals saying things or the whole crowd booing and throwing things?
i saw Tool a month or two ago and i didn't see anything like that, despite a diverse lineup and a shitty band going on before them.. and i don't recall hearing any reports like that about their performance at Lolla either.

Nobody threw things but about 80% of everybody I saw was being a douche. As to MBV, people were mass booing them, yelling shit at them, chanting "TOOL" and at one point almost every person was flipping them off, the ones who didn't were just covering their ears. It literally felt like I was the only MBV fan there. You could hear some cheers but they were way in the back.
TBH I didn't get to the main stage till later in the day but you could easily pick out a diehard Tool fan every 5 seconds in the crowds. But now that I think about it, it actually wasn't as bad in Chicago for Lolla from what I saw. Maybe the NY fans are just assholes.

Tool fans were happy during the Arctic Monkeys and Gogol. It was terrible during MBV, but I was happy because it was part of what made it fun. MBV fans were even bigger douches for putting their thumbs up as if that somehow repelled all the middle fingers.
You people are exaggerating the Massive Attack reaction. There were lightly scattered boos but they didn't even come close to overwhelming the applause. I think Massive Attack might have won a few Tool fans over when they played Angel.
The reaction to Sleater Kinney was far worse I think. But that was probably just cause they sucked.

I guess what psychobetabuckdown said. I wasn't really in the crowd for those sets but they did seem to enjoy Gogol.
And frequent flyer as in miles? When I can I use them, I get Alaska Airlines frequent flyer miles but you have to get a shit ton to make a difference and the flight they usually offer for miles usually aren't the ones I want. I just work and fly to music festivals, that's pretty much it.

I think if The Stones or U2 played the day would sell out instantly with non-coachella fans. Do not want.
considering that Coachella has a smaller capacity than shows for either band and costs considerably less, this is probably true and now that i have this line of thinking in my head, i agree that even though I'd like to see two bands I'd rather not have them there

Can we please just maintain the same luck as this year, where none of the major bands created mosh pits? This year, none of the headliners were anything crazy and it still seemed like there were WAY too many kids there just waiting for some sort of chaos to join in on.

Now, I love a good mosh pit. I've broken 3 different bones in pits over the years and still am in them all the time, BUT... Coachella is not the place. You have way too many people on way too many substances, and all it's going to take is one stupid band pushing the crowd over the edge (see:Limp Bizkit @ Woodstock 99) and the festival will never be the same.

Fuck. Worst set ever. That is, next to Uffie. Saturday at Coachella 08 was the most confusing day of music I had ever seen. On one hand, I saw Uffie and Scars on Broadway, two of the worst things I have ever experienced in my entire life. Scars on Broadway...yeesh. I actually wasted 20 minutes waiting for them to start (since they were so late) and then the first thing that comes out of the singer's mouth in the first song is something like "dead children crawling on your doorstep" or something and I said "this is NOT the vibe I am looking for right now" and walked out

Morbid curiosity. And she looked horrible at the set too. Actually, I never found her attractive to begin with. Not my type. As I said, it was purely morbid curiosity. I left after 5 minutes and was able to see the whole set of Carbon/Silicon.

I call bullshit because they won't be at Coachella.
And yeah, I have heard what the shows have been like. Apparently the kid sounds just like Brad. The two other guys from Sublime were sitting in a coffee shop and they heard this guy doing some acoustic Sublime covers. They right there and then decided to get "Sublime" back together.
Some fat mexican kid who sounds like Brad.
Yup. Some fat Mexican kid named Rome.
Don't be fooled, even though he sounds just like Brad, he isn't. I have a big problem with this "reunion." If they decided to call themselves something different and play sets of Sublime songs, I wouldn't have a problem. But the fact they insist to play under the name "Sublime" just tells me the only reason they are in this is for the money. Ugh.

They were never cool.
Not sure how they were caught in the "wanna be sublime" trend when they sound nothing like sublime, they've always been a folk/r'n'b/dub jam band. Slightly Stoopid and Pepper can both be accused of copping sublime's sound (for both inexcusable and excusable reasons), but Bargain Music was always its own entity.
The only connection to sublime is that Josh and Brad were good friends (Josh directed most of their music videos), they started off playing a ton of covers like sublime (but Bargain Music opted for Meat Puppets and Prince, while sublime was all about Ziggens and Bad Brains), and they're both from Long Beach.

"
“It was recently announced that Sublime bassist Eric Wilson and Sublime drummer Floyd ‘Bud’ Gaugh are ‘reuniting’ and teaming with singer and guitarist Rome Ramirez in a band they intend to call ‘Sublime.’ Prior to his untimely passing, both Bud and Eric acknowledged that Brad Nowell was the sole owner of the name Sublime. It was Brad's expressed intention that no one use the name Sublime in any group that did not include him, and Brad even registered the trademark ‘Sublime’ under his own name.
As Brad's heirs, and with the support of his entire family, we only want to respect his wishes and therefore have not consented to Bud and Eric calling their new project ‘Sublime.’ We have always supported Bud and Eric's musical endeavors and their desire to continue to play Sublime's music. We wholeheartedly supported Bud, Eric and the many talented members of the Sublime posse that formed the Long Beach Dub All-Stars, soon after Brad's death, to honor him through their original recordings, live performances and Sublime music until they disbanded in 2001. But, out of respect for Brad's wishes, we have always refused to endorse any group performing as ‘Sublime,’ and now with great reluctance feel compelled to take the appropriate legal action to protect Brad's legacy.
Our hope is that Brad's ex-bandmates will respect his wishes and find a new name to perform under, so as to enhance the ‘Sublime’ legacy without the confusion and disappointment that many fans have expressed upon seeing the announcement."

He'd a heart scare late 2003/early 2004 which led to him canceling all his remaining gigs that year including a headline slot at 'T in the Park'. Apart from an appearance with David Gilmour at the Syd Barrett Tribute Gig, singing Arnold Layne - I'm not aware he done anything else live since.

my point is dont rule out a band just because its not in their norm to play fests, dont rule out bands just because they havnt put out an album in the last year or five for that matter... COACHELLA is a perfect blend of new to old and everything in between. I personaly dont want U2 there unless its performing WAR and/or Josh Tree in its entirety, whatever play some of the newer songs for the encore, but ultimately just classic U2.

For someone like U2 the logistics aren't there for them to play a festival, especially the size of Coachella. They just played one date on their tour that had more than 30,000 more attendees than Coachella

I believe the problem of U2 and festivals isn't the logistics-or money. Part of playing festivals means standard stage set-up and conceding marketing and imaging to some degree. U2 are well known in the industry for controlling every aspect of U2. Also the appeal of surrounding yourself with 80K of your own fans doesn't fit in to the festival ethos-even at a sold-out coachella you only might have 40K watching you (most of those casual fans), the rest are watching someone else.
Glastonbury for years tried to get U2, every year U2 expressed interest they were pursued but fell through for reasons like wanting to dictate all the bands on the main stage, no bands playing at the same time as U2, control over TV broadcast and images etc. In the end Glastonbury just gave up.

Didn't Paul McCartney do something similar, in that the DOME's DJ's were shut down on Friday Night? I was pretty bummed about that, and I definitely don't want to be a festival where one band gets to dictate how the rest of the show is run.

Well done. I saw an interview/documentary that focused on Bono somewhat recently and he went explained the business aspect of U2. All the promotional deals etc. They're solid musicians and all but really savvy businessmen who see U2 as a brand. A brand they leverage very effectively. Ergo, they're all filthy rich and can afford to construct and haul that monstrosity of a stage around the world three times.

This guy/girl buddyhead cracks me up....
David Gahan and Depeche Mode are STILL GOING OFF REALLY HARD! This past week, Depeche Mode was slaying tang in Peru and David was so snow-blinded by the end of the show that he said “Thank you very much, Chile!” And in case you need a current events update, people in Peru are about as cool with people from Chile as Jeff Wood is down with some sprocket dude in a mesh-shirt rubbing up against him while singing “Personal Jesus”. Yep, people were FUCKING PISSED! The Depeche Mode dudes may look like they ride biker bears in the reverse-cowgirl position, but they are actually huge fans of massive amounts of cocaine, caking gallons of glitter on their faces, and lots of weird and different pussies…you thought that last one was gonna be DONGS, huh? Well, we’ve hypothesized that these dudes are mixing their rock-stardom with reverse psychology to merge Voltron-style into a massive pussy magnet that delivers college chicks, cougars and the occasional Craigslist lurking bi-couple. We salute them, most of the time.

It’s so great when this shit writes itself! That German Nu-Metal band, Rammstein, who happen to be responsible for the audio-aids known as “Du Hast” have announced they’re releasing a “unique boxset version” of their new album “Liebe Ist Für Alle Da” (German to English translation: Lube Is For Your Ass!”) complete with a metal flight case so that you can’t destroy the cd inside, five extra tracks that weren’t “good enough” for the record, industrial strength handcuffs (to make sure people listen to the whole record), lubricant and… this is where the punch-line comes in… six pink dildos that reflect the sizes of the six members’ wienerwursts. Now for the first time ever Rammstein have succeeded in simultaneously raping their fans ears and asses! Kudos dudes, you’ve really reinvented the game of sucking!

This is really cute, to me, that so many of you are discovering Buddyhead today. This was the only website that we cared about when I was in high school.
They used to post Fred Durst's cell phone number on a monthly basis. Fred would change it. They'd get the new one. Hilarity ensued.

I'm with you. It's so fucking far-fetched that they would ACTUALLY reunite, whatever the internet says about amount of money offered for the reunion. If it were to happen, though, I'd hope it wouldn't be a one-off because I'd hate to have to shell out for Coachella just to see them. I probably wouldn't even be able to, and then I'd die of jealousy and sadness.

I know. I'll see the state of my wallet when the lineup comes out. I'd have to camp, which would suck considering I have no camping stuff and would be flying in. I don't even know how I'd get from LA to Indio. The whole thing is a morass of suckiness.

Don't worry about it. I went last year totally broke. Christmas money went to my ticket. I got a few camping supplies at the last minute, but you could probably find someone trustworthy to share a tent with if you needed to, like Barb. I caught a ride from LA to Indio and back with a board member. I'm sure you'd have no problem securing one. Camping is a lot of fun because you're more immersed in Coachella. Just don't rule anything out too early.

yeah, that Rammstein box set is pretty wicked, even with the dildos made from molds of their own penises..
but that articles about it on buddyhead lied about the translation of the Rammstein album title (it's actually Since Love Is For All... NOT "Lube Is For Your Ass"), so i'm gonna assume they're also lying and/or misinformed about Spacemen 3..

Whoever wrote that blurb is a idiot. "I only know what I've been spoonfed by MTV and radio, and they only fed me one shitty song by this band, so therefore this represents their whole career."
I'll still never understand why they picked Du Hast to represent them. I remember seeing them before that album even came out, and it was my least favorite song of the show.
