Or is it the other way around? Oh, fuck it.

Its the other way around. From what I have read, there are 55,000 3 day tickets available. Then 5,000 single day tickets for each day.

Hey remember that really lame argument about the use of the word "the" in regards to bands like (The) Arcade Fire and which was correct? I totally disregarded it but I was wondering if anybody used this as in defense of THE Arcade Fire being correct. Its the 2005 and 2007 Coachella posters:

It looks like "the" wins.

ugh. you just *had* to go (back) there, eh.

That's just my opinion of how it shoud be.

Just to conclude so that it doesn't go all weird again, Arcade Fire's "the" is entirely optional and they include it and omit it on a whim. On the EP, for example, the front says "Arcade Fire", the spine says "The Arcade Fire".

The important thing is what's right for you, and what you're comfortable with. Don't let anybody force their lifestyle choices on you.

It looks like "the" wins.

To me this is the reason for the errors, not the solution. It's not the band that writes down their name on the poster. However, I accept MissingPerson's claim that Win doesn't give a shit, which is what I suspected anyway.

And it wasn't lame, it was a great argument that passed the time well. I wonder why the "the" has made its way out of people's names since the early days of rock and roll. Is it a fad that is or will be correcting itself or is it just a sign of versatility in today's artists?

I missed them at El Rey because of Royksopp so I went to Detroit Bar to see them and it was so worth it. I was on the fence because I liked the new album but didn't love it. Their live show changed everything! This is their 1st US show where they didn't have sound problems. People that went to the Wednesday show and went Friday also said it made a big difference. Coachella 2010 will be lucky to have them. Now you have to figure out what tent. Their lighting and smoke made a difference in the vibe too. They mentioned they were 20 tickets short of a sold out show at the El Rey. Not bad for their first ever US tour show!

There aren't that many major leaks/rumors going around. The odds are that at some point, people on this board have infiltrated and have thrown together a fairly accurate list of acts that'll indeed end up on the poster. Goldenvoice is probably aware of this.

If trends continue, they're not going to be fooling people,at least not the ones who frequent this board.

Those are all the pre-Black Holes songs they've played on the tour thus far. It's still pretty early so if we're lucky we'll see some of these songs return.

Butterflies and Hurricanes
Apocalypse Please
Citizen Erased
Sing for Absolution
Citizen Erased
Sunburn

And yes, Unintended would be wonderful to see.

Didn't Hercules & Love Affair say they would be here this year in that letter they wrote?

Oh please let it be. I was so excited for them this year. Here's the letter courtesy of nation's thread.

To Friends, Fans, and Concert-Goers,

It is with great regret that Hercules and Love Affair will not be able to participate in the Coachella Festival this year. The decision to pull off of the bill was done out of necessity. Hercules and Love Affair is currently undergoing a reconfiguration of its live show.

We will have an all-new lineup and show for you soon and hope that you'll be there to experience it with us. As not only musicians, but as fans, we look forward to Coachella every year. It is one of the great annual events that celebrates people coming together from all around the world to enjoy music. Thank you for understanding and we look forward to seeing you all soon.

If we got 4 or 5 of those I wouldn't complain. Let's face it, their popular stuff starts with "Starlight."

The first 5 are locks. They're played at every show and the other 3 have been rotated night to night. Here's a set list from a recent show.

We Are The Universe Intro
Uprising
Resistance
New Born
Map of the Problematique
MK Ultra
Supermassive Black Hole
Interlude/Hysteria
Nishe
United States of Eurasia
Feeling Good
Unintended
Helsinki Jam/Undisclosed Desires
Starlight
Plug in Baby
Time is Running Out
Unnatural Selection

Encore:

Exogenesis: Overture
Stockholm Syndrome
Knights of Cydonia

im really hoping there is something good in the sahara during muse their new album is terrible.

Underworld.

regardless, the last two years they've put the strongest Sahara lineups on the day with the weakest Main Stage headliner, we'll be okay. a shitty headliner isn't any different to me that a shitty act in the Gobi at 3pm.. it's just one set on one stage. if anything, get the fuck away from the main stage after dark, that's when Coachella is most amazing, walking around seeing everything lit up hearing great music from every direction.. i only go to the Main Stage after dark for one or two acts a year.

I do like how they occasionally give b-sides a go, even if just as teasers. They did Forced In at the Detroit '06 show, and now they're doing Nishe.

MK Ultra and Unnatural Selection are nice, but I wish older stuff could replace more of the Resistance tracks. I wonder if Matt even brings his 7-string out on tour anymore, seems like they haven't done Citizen Erased in forever. He's all about his custom KAOSS-pad guitars these days.

And where the hell is Sunburn? It pains me the amount of great songs they could be playing while things like Supermassive and Starlight are still in heavy rotation. Unfortunately, Starlight is a RIAA-certified gold single, so that one's probably not ever going away.

Those are all good possibilities. I was thinking about the first three lines of the poster, and I think we have enough bands supposedly confirmed or heavily rumored to fill them up. This year has been pretty easy so far, without too many surprises:

Headliner possibilities:
Arcade Fire
Beastie Boys
Daft Punk
Muse
Pearl Jam
Radiohead (If Thom Yorke doesn't subheadline)
The Who

Subheadliner/3rd liner possibilities:
Belle and Sebastian
Blur
The Dead Weather
Deftones
Devo
Dirty Projectors
Echo and the Bunnymen
Faith No More
Hot Chip
Grizzly Bear
Interpol
LCD Soundsystem
Mazzy Star
MGMT
Pavement
Pet Shop Boys
Phoenix
Sigur Ros
Spoon
Spaceman 3
The Stooges
Tegan and Sara
Thom Yorke (If Radiohead not a headliner)
Vampire Weekend

I'm sure there will be whatever big name Sahara or rap artists in there somewhere, too. Any combination of the above is good enough for me, so unlike previous years, I think I'll put my feet up, hands behind my head, relax, wait for the actual poster and check in on everyone here's mental status as we get closer.

Where was this said?

Found this list on another forum of the top bands that ticket holders voted for to bring to the 2010 festival. i did some research and i think it was all taken from Primavera Sounds forum (the Spring Survey Sound '10 subforum to be specific), but i can't be sure since i don't know spanish.

1 PIXIES booked
2 ANIMAL COLLECTIVE (1294 votes) no plans for then but could change... (PANDA BEAR booked)
3 PORTISHEAD (998) contacted, touring next summer but complicated (headliner slot shortage)
4 BELLE AND SEBASTIAN (961) will tour this year, negotiations going well
5 THE ARCADE FIRE (945) will tour only from june or later, depends when album is finished
6 WILCO (924) booked
7 BUILT TO SPILL (896) negotiations are very advanced
8 PULP (812) no plans for the band to reform so far
9 YO LA TENGO (790) on tour in spain shortly before the festival so no. maybe as Condo Fucks...
10 LCD SOUNDSYSTEM (746) on tour in the US at the time

11 THE WHITE STRIPES (670) no plans for next year, Jack will keep playing w/ The Dead Weather
12 PJ HARVEY (660) good relations, offer made but has no idea about her plans for next year yet
13 SONIC YOUTH (634) no plans to do anything, festival has no more free headliner slots either

Battles said album will be out 3rd quarter of 2010.

And yeah, Belle & Sebastian news is even more exciting for me than Portishead (Barely).

I wish I had enough swearwords in my arsenal or emoticons at my command to do the complex and conflicting emotions of the following post justice. I don't, so please try and project the ones you feel appropriate as necessary.

In 2007, Arcade Fire did something like 30 festivals in around a month and gave the distinct impression afterwards that it was not an experience that they were keen to repeat. It was my gut feeling that next year, they were going to severely cut back on their festival dates for this reason, and get very picky about which ones they did play. Between this and the proposed late release date of #3, I had more or less ruled them out of making it to Coachella.

From what I've just hear now though, the word is that they aren't going to do any festivals this time around if they can at all avoid it. No fests, No how, unless something "dramatic" changes between now and then. So that's that, I guess.

God, there isn't even a lolcat for it.

I highly doubt they play 0 festivals this summer with an album coming out in that time. Sure cut back on their appearances but to not play any of them. that's not going to happen.

whatever. is there a thread where we can get excited about their new album? that's far more important than whether or not they crowd the main stage again.

I would easily believe it. Easily. They have no problem saying no to big money or useful press and they put enough of their own cash into their operation to have more or less total control over where it goes. If they don't want to do it, they won't. Simple as that.

Even then, if they do just reduce it to a handful of fests - which remains comfortably possible - they're quite excrutiatingly unlikely to do so around my neck of the woods.

Yeah, five years overdue. Talk about dropping the ball year after year.

Some of those gifts are awesome, but sadly out of my price range. Private show? Holy Xenu. I pledged $100 because original artwork would be cool to have.

The $50 pledge is a good deal...would cost around $40 for a shirt and record alone. I wonder what happens if someone pledges $200 and requests Freebird or Rick Roll.

That sucks. Not even Coachella or Glasto? They seem to have enjoyed themselves at those. I ended up behind Richard in 2005 at M83 and heard reports of people meeting Win while he was in the crowd for Jarvis, Interpol, and Bjork in 07.

MissingPerson

I can remember them specifically namedropping Glasto as one of the most difficult festivals they've ever played. They were all sick, hurt and tired, and they had an unusually high number of instrument and mic failures onstage even by their standards, including the violin, one of the keyboards and any bloody thing Richard put his hands on. If you check out the Glastonbury youtubes, you can see them frantically signalling to the techies the whole way through the show.

Well, that's Glasto. The most legendary performances are usually the ones that endured some kind of drama (rain, technical problems, bumped to headliner at the last minute, controversy, etc). So do they think it was worth the difficulty that ensued?

I think they came to the conclusion that they were happier playing smaller fests like Latitude, where they can get right up to the audience without having to cross a fifteen foot security trench or accidentally making anybody die in a resulting crush, which seems to be a persisting fear of Win's.

I didn't say I thought Arcade Fire is bigger than Pavement.

you said Pavement isn't gonna headline, even though they're headlining 4 festivals (so far) but you said that Arcade Fire headlining is a possibility..

so you're not saying Arcade Fire is bigger?
