Our little girl, Harper, was born 2-16http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f170/nothingman00/DSC00119.jpg?t=1171855864. Healthy, happy baby. Healthy, happy mother. Exhausted, but happy, Mr. and Mrs. Nothingman (aka Zach and Megan). Hate to be the "look at my baby" type, but I couldn't hold back. So weak...

Thank you all. Yes, little Harper has already attended (from the womb), last year's Lolla and ACL festivals, Broken Social Scene w/ Do Make Say Think, the Mountain Goats, Mogwai, The Frames, The Rolling Stones (with my mom, sitting literally ON stage), and a few others. She plans on attending her first Coachella this year and will be looking forward to AIR and Damien Rice the most (they were on a CD of relaxing music that got my wife calmed down before, during, and after labor).

i'm so glad you posted this. really made me smile. i was one of those babies in the sling getting toted around from festival to festival. love to see parents continuing that! kids that don't have music in their lives at an early age just don't turn out right, ya know?

hope she enjoys her first coachella (out in the open, that is)!

Tessa, I'll try to throw some more pics up as they come but I'll keep it minimal. Here is a pic of my wife and I, on Valentine's night, about 15 hours before she went into labor. (this also serves as the 'post your picture' for me, since I only posted my wife's picture (later photoshopped brilliantly by hawking as "DJ Megan"). I'll try to get a fun picture of her crying, so that it can be used as a "quit whining" pic. She can belt out a good tantrum (the baby that is, not the mother)...

homo? what? huh? is that a code word for a (straight) responsible citizen who plans on adopting because there are plenty of children who need homes and enough over-population problems to boot?

not trying to argue actually. I was making a joke above, and crazz decided to make a homophobic retort.

nothingman, please make sure she stays COOL at Coachella! Last year I was sat in the shade near this couple and they had a baby with them but they had left the pushchair in the sun and the baby was laying there crying, fully clothed. The poor thing must have been boiling, and I started to wonder if that smell in the air was actually the smell of lightly roasted baby.

Hey, thanks everyone. As I held my wife's leg (due to lack of hospital personnel and an abundance of newborns being born within minutes of each other at the hospital) and actually watched my girl come into the world, I tried to find the right thoughts, words, emotion... It was all just too much (in the best way possible). The word "surreal" is probably the most overused (and frequently misapplied) word around, but there was a point where all thoughts had left my mind and I just stared at her, completely free... A couple things:

Stef- My parents will be in PS and help with babysitting duties, so we'll only be bringing Harper to Coachella on Sunday and it should be near sundown (hoping to catch Air, Damien Rice, Explosions in the Sky, Crowded House and RATM from afar). She'll be hydrated, shaded, and earlobes will be far away from the actual stages. My folks got us VIP passes, which should make it a little easier to keep chilled out. Mainly, I just want her to be able to take a look at the poster from coachella 2007 and be able to say "I was there" in 20 years. My wife and i don't plan on ever missing a Coachella, and as Harper grows, we hope to make it a "can't miss" event for her, as well. I think that coachella, more than any of the other fests, carries a profound sense of diversity while maintaining that "we all are one" type of feel.

NeverMyopic-congrats to you and your wife. Yes, it will be life-changing, but all I can tell you is that when you're reading up on the 20 prenatal books that you're bound to read, focus on the positives. The sleep deprivation, the "am I doing this right" feelings that persist, the crying... They are no match for this window of absolute bliss and compassion that opens up. And to be honest, everything will just come to you instinctively, feeling very natural.

Again, thanks for the kind words, everyone.

Apologies for the belatedness of this, but congratulations!
(You and your wife have shown excellent taste in your little girl's name btw).
EDIT
As well as the year of her birth,it's the Chinese Year of the Golden Pig,which only occurs every 600 years, and which the Chinese believe bestows great fortune upon those born into this year.

Aw I love babies, being a Momma is so much fun! All the gifts and celebrating; the partying, going out to clubs, drinking, dancing, I love it. People say I'm irresponsible but that's not true at all - I totally make sure my Mom always has the baby.

I feel very very sad that I missed this thread because I didn't check the message board yesterday.

Congratulations, nothingman! Your baby girl is beautiful and I wish you lots of luck dealing with a newborn the next couple months because it will be very hard, but definitely rewarding. I hope to meet your little family on Sunday at Air. :) I'm so happy for you!

I think I'm going to wait until my children develop their own taste in music before lugging them along to Coachella. Or maybe when the White Stripes come back, I'll take 'em.
