JEROME30

Well every year thounsands of latins cross the border, especially from Mexico to be part of this awesome project. that's why there are a few latin bands playing there every year.

Last year I was so happy because I saw MOLOTOV, EL GRAN SILENCIO, MEXICAN INSITUTE OF SOUND, BAJO FONDO.

I hope and I will pray for FABULOSOS CADILLACS can make it next year.

what do you think? what latin band do you want to listen at Coachella?

Cheers.

Any band....
As long as they don't play any of that Mexican yodeling/tuba/polka/trumpet crap that you always hear coming from blown out 6x9's bouncing around under the front seat of Julio's 1982 Ford F150 that proudly sports a big ass decal of a big fucking cow or bull on the passenger and drivers doors.
I hate that shit...

Any of these "Latin" groups would be a huge hit at Coachella.
Especially the 3rd group. I believe the first two may be some kind of "cover" bands...

Los Amigos Invisibles put on a really good show. In '05 (or early '06) I saw them at Bimbos in SF and my gf and I danced our asses off, as did the entire crowd. I don't know what they are up to now, but they'd be great to see again.

Well now that zoe has been confirmed as one of the 3 latino bands there are 2 spots left I would hope they would get Jumbo and or plastilina mosh.
As far as mana, they can pretty much go fuck themselves as I seriously doubt mr. Tollett would ever allow such a travesty to perform in one of his stages, I mean this is still about the best musical talent out there, isn't it?

i saw bersuit vergarabat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crw3Q-x46d8), from argentina, years ago and it was a really great show.

also, this argentinian guy who goes by the name of melmann (http://www.myspace.com/melmanns) has some good electronic music. i'd like to see him live someday.

davila 666, from puerto rico. kind of garage punk. great live show. i saw them last month and it was impressive. these guys will be big.

resplandor (http://www.myspace.com/resplandorperu), from peru, if you are into shoegaze. they opened for ulrich schnauss and asobi seksu in south america not long ago.

and for world music, novalima (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZepiTaB9dDk), from peru. if there's a latin band i've always enjoyed and really want to see again, here they are.

Lil known acts such as Quetzal, Cava, Upground and Casa De Calacas would really Thrive in this enviroment. I know Ozomatli played there a couple years back and Tore it up in one of the tents, but they need to come back. Los Lobos would be alot of fun to watch, and not just their La Bamba Stuff. Salvador Santana Band would do really good in one of the tents. Tijuana No would Have been Great Before Luis Passed away. Kinky would be amazing in this setting and I would LOVE to see Ojos de Brujo out in the Warm Dessert night. B Side Players Are ready for this scene and this Novelty act called Mentiritas would be very entertaining. They opened for El Recodo not too long ago, and I think the Crowd would really dig them. Los Pinguos, Orishas and I would Love to see Calle 13.

Here is some of those lesser known acts I mentioned...

Quetzal

this is my "latin wishlist" for 2010:

- Troker
- Buenavista Social Club
- Plastilina Mosh
- Nortec Collective
- Los Auténticos Decadentes
- Los Fabulosos Cadillacs

OK, I guess we need to get an OFFICIAL LOS FABULOSOS CADILLACS REQUEST THREAD going on.... they would be the SHIT!!!

I recently saw at the Rock en el Rio Festival (Juarez, Mexico) the following bands, this is what I think:
http://festivalinternacionalrockenelrio.com/

Zoe - ok set, but get pretty fucking boring
Amigos Invisibles - AWESOME, this was like 2 weeks before ACL
Kinky - Very intense, I had not heard their latest album but it's very good.
Molotov - meh.. been there done that

Quiero Club - They would be an interesting addition to Coachella
Los Bunkers - boring
Jumbo - mmm.. I would prefer a Zurdok reunion

Other interesting bands would be:

Titan - at the sahara!!!
Nortec - I agree with some of you
Hello Seahorse - fuck yeah
Cafe Tacuba - only if they release a new album by April
Babasonicos, maybe

ps...that Silverio guy is FCUKING AWESOME!

There are a bunch of really good and some what decent latin bands. For example, Zoé the "Confirmed" first latin band, they are decent, not that good, but an OK act.

Quiero Club from Monterrey Mexico are an interesting act, definitely something really cool for coachella.

Calle 13, they are, or used to be a reggaeton band, but they have always stated they are not, but the thing is that live they are amazing.

Hello Seahorse! are definitely an act for Coachella.

Juana Molina should definitely be playing.

Babasonicos, great band from Argentina, definitely a good option for next years Coachella.

Los Fancy Free, AMAZINGLY GREAT Mexican band.

Jessy Bulbo, she is like an underground icon in the Mexican music scene.

Emmanuel Horvilleur, he used to be in one of the hip hop act called Illya Kuryaki And The Valderramas. If you could get them to reunited (though they hever broke up) that would be prettyn fucking amazing.

Juan Son, his previous band Porter played for the last time at Coachella 08.

Maria Daniela Y Su Sonido Lasser, they are from Mexico City, really good act also.

No Lo Soporto, I think they are from Argentina, really good music that these chicks make.

ACTS FROM SPAIN!!!
Adanowsky, hes an amazing performer.

Coconot, great band. One of the members is El Guincho, another great act that they should bring next years.

Delorean, they have been getting a lot of attention w/ the last EP they got out.

Juanita Y Los Feos, they sound like Black Lips, but some people might dig them.

ialvarado2
11-10-2009, 09:16 AM
It's funny cuase just a couple of weeks ago I was debating with a friend wether Calle13 was coachella material or not.

She argued that weird shit like Gogol bordello and el gran silencio have played and my argument was that they are fucking reggeaton.

I'm not saying they're bad, I agree they're a good live band... I've payed a little bit more attention to them since they played that song with Cafe Tacuba.

I guess it's the latin equivalent to having rap on coachella

ps. If anyone else asks for Mana, I'll cut their balls off.

ialvarado2

I forgot to add...

I heard rumors fo Plastilina Mosh for next year.

jajajajajaja!

Kinky is not as good as they used to be, and the same goes for Zoé. I pretty much think they suck nowadays.

I used to think the same why up to 4 months ago... then I saw both Zoe and Kinky live with their new stuff.

Zoe still sucks but KINKY was fucking AWESOME... I remember seeing them a couple of years ago after they played Coachella and I didn't really likes them (they had their second album stuff). This new album is pretty good and the live set is very intense.

yup, Jim does love EL Paso, his band's cd (Sleepercar) name is West Texas, so that says a lot.

I wouldn't say the same about omar and cedric, they've compaint a lot about EP not being supportive when ATDI was starting out, which is kind of true, but I still see them here every once in a while, so who knows.

by the way, many of the bands that you guys mention are on a cool label called nacional records - http://nacionalrecords.com. they have fabulosos cadillacs, nortec collective, plastilina mosh, mexican institute of sound, quiero club, hello seahorse, etc. nacional has a great 21 song sampler for free at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Nacional-Records-Sampler-Sounds-Latin/dp/B002VIU5PE. thought you may want to check it out.

and Zoe...

no more El Gran Silencio, that's ok... I would really want to see Bajofondo in the bill again since they had a huge conflict with Macca

Easy: PLASTILINA MOSH!!

Have a listen. All their stuff is fantastic. And english- friendly. I pop them in at all the parties. soo much fun. I have yet to see them live, and will always hope someone at Goldenvoice gives them a chance. They're awesome, and will blow all past 'token latin bands' way out of the water. sooo good.

So far all I'm reading in this thread is a lot of "taco taco taco." Bring out El Vez.

Yeah MBV rocked last year wish they were playing again.

Just caught an act that was down here, from the Bay area. They are called Bang Data. Great act. They'd be a great addition for next year.

Any other obscure acts that might be worth seeing at Coachella 2013? I have one:

Pegasvs - Spanish pop duo from Barcelona. Their latest album is pretty damn good.

What else? I heard a strong rumor of Cafe Tacvba playing this year, what what other bands might we expect?

Bajofondo?
Carla Morrison?
Is Omar Rodriguez still considered latin? :winkiss

yeah, pegasvs's eponymous album is awesome!

also, if vive latino http://www.vivelatino.com.mx/ is any indication, we might also see;
a band of bitches
alex anwandter
carla morrison (coachella gives love to latin grammy winners!)
los fabulosos cadillacs (above all, i really hope that we see them)

caifanes sold out Coachella one year

not exactly sure what you mean...

being that their coachella appearance was one of two dates on their website since 1995, i was surprised at the size of the audience 15 minutes before their set time at the outdoor theater (for a band that headlined latin america's arguably biggest music festival).

their t-shirts that year sold out immediately and my husband (who loved them since the 90's) didn't get one :(

A Band of Bitches would be a cool addition. Does anyone know if they play Plastilina Mosh songs live?

attendees sell out coachella, period. "bros" turned 2010 into clusterfuckchella.
what is a "bro" anyways?

band of bitches would make for a fun show given their gimmick: http://music.remezcla.com/2012/latin/a-band-of-bitches-the-pre-end-of-the-world-soundtrack-interview/
