Poker Stars is one of the few websites not enforcing the U.S. ban on online gambling. Other sites not enforcing the ban are Bodog, Fulltilt, UltimateBet and a couple of others.

vinyl, so you dont have to download a bunch of spyware when you go there ... i have played cards for years but i know reseach shows, next to porn, poker sites are the worst for downloading trash to your pc ... zip me a line or just reply here and i will trust what ya say, but get ready to get your stash zapped :) cr*****

I'm pretty computer illiterate so I would be the wrong person to ask about spyware. I go by vinylmartyr on both poker stars and full tilt. I play on full tilt the most but I wont be playing much until after Coachella.

have you guys heard about those people that get so obsessed with that online poker stuff, that all they can do is play, or think about playing poker...and it slowly takes over their lives, and they end up losing thousands upon thousands of dollars. i saw this whole special, on i forget which network, it was all about how the internet, and technology is taking over America. remember the more you play, the more you are eventually going to lose.

man this thread is old. i still play on pokerstars. no spyware. just won a small HORSE tourney. woooo! yesterday came in 7th on a 180 holdem. couple weeks ago came in 29th on a 360 holdem. my best one was coming in 3rd place out of 3135 players on a holdem tourney a couple months ago. that was exciting.

A quick question.

How long is a tournament?(hrs) I know it depends on the tournament but I just want to know the avg. time spent playing.

vinylmartyr
10-26-2008, 04:41 PM

vinylmartyr

vinylmartyr
10-26-2008, 04:48 PM
On full tilt we can host a private Coachella tournament. We would probably need a week to set it up. You can do it on poker stars too but you have to have 2000 frequent player points to host it. I have like 800 so I am a long way off. I'm down for having a tourney on Fill Tilt if anyone wants to play. We can make it a $5 buy in.

You can play sit and goes. Are you playing hold em? There is a $2.20 180 person No Limit that takes about an hour and a half if you win. Top prize is $108.

I really miss my laptop. I finally gave the money I had left on my full tilt account to Nick because I can't ever get on there to spend it.

I took 13th for the month out of 150 +/- players at my local bar though. Saturday is our monthly tournament, just once I would like to actually make some cash in this though. I play for free and do fairly well, getting gift cards for the bar, yet once there is cash on the table I freeze up and play differently.

faxman75
11-12-2009, 08:13 AM
yeah, playing on line and then sitting at a table in Vegas seems different too. I ease my way into games in Vegas and play low risk poker room games like $3-$6 limit tables. I decided when I go next month i'm going to try and graduate to some no limit tourneys, maybe start at shitty small casino's mid strip like O'Shea's. Their poker room is across from Beer Pong so it can't be that serious.

Has anyone else noticed the beer pong explosion in Vegas? Even the Casino's down my Excalibur and Luxor seem to have tables set up for beer pong. Gotta love college kids.

I will say over the last year I have learned a bit from TV and playing on line. I'm a much better player now. I also think I have an answer if people ever talk shit about how I bet or my play. I'll simply say what Darvin Moon said.

jCd3UoDpxIc

He is asked why he bet so much. His reply cracked me up and he never made eye contact and he just sat down at the table and is unloading his chips. He looks at his cards and he raises 5.5 million.

"i'm new at this game, I over raise, I under raise, i'm not sure" then he's pressed about how much he likes his hand and his response. "to be honest with you, i'm not really sure on that either"

locachica73
11-12-2009, 08:20 AM
I have played at a cash room by the bar I go to that has no limit $1 $2 tables and have balanced out. I won 3 times and lost 4 times but when I won it was way more money than I had lost. But I lost $200 in one hand with pocket aces one day by a guy holding K 3. I left still up $120 but after that I was way too scared to play. $200 in the span of what, maybe 2 minutes a hand? I saw really quickly how it can be addictive. The poker room by my house has a nightly no limit tourney for $25/game as well. But some of the dudes that play there are total douchebags so I don't go often.

Their is a beer pong game at one of the other bars by my house as well, every monday. I went once, there was alot of male bonding/chest thumping going on. Good times.

Yep. That sucks. I had AC 10C last night while playing. This guy stayed in with 7C 9C. When I saw a 3rd club pop up on the river I was so excited, then I saw this donky turn over his straight flush! I bet heavy the whole way and followed all the way to the river and he gets the straight flush to beat my ace high flush with 5, 6, 8C on the board. :nono

That sucks Audra.

I played a few different games last night and came in the money every time. The worst I did was 5th in a $5.50 27 seater that still paid $10.70. It sure seems like there are a lot more amateurs on full tilt than poker stars. I sense more people getting in with less and less decent cards and the games going by a little faster too though the selection and the number of players seems to be a lot higher on pokerstars. I'm just glad I figured out how to turn less than $1 into close to $40.

I never played on anything other than full tilt but what I found with the cash tourneys, cheaper ones anyways, I don't think I ever played one for more than $5, is that you get a bunch of people who try to build their bank up really fast or they give up. So the first 5 hands I would usually either sit out of or go all in on if I had a decent hand, then half the mother fuckers would be gone within the first 5 hands. Then you can typically sit back and wait for final table and do fairly well. I had played on the same $50 for several months, increasing it to $100 at one point. But then I lost my company laptop and stopped playing. I do kind of miss it though. Maybe someday I will get a laptop again. :)

That usually happens in games under $2 on poker stars. I was a big fan of the $2.20 180 seater because half the people would be eliminated within 15 minutes or so. It wasn't terribly difficult to get to the final 2 tables.

Yeah, I always played the 90 seater 3.20 doublestack tourney if I remember right. I got to the final table most times. OK now I have a desire to play cards. DAMNIT

No worries, I played the first game last night in my free poker but its always the same people and half of them annoy the fuck out of me. I am thinking I need to get a cash game together soon. I need to learn how to play against new people, that way I won't be so scared to hit up the casino sometime.

Well I don't really look at it as free. 1st and 2nd place get $15/$10 gift cards to the bar and points. Free food is enough incentive for me. And it is fun. And then the monthly is the top 25 people who placed throughout the month and then they have a playin and take the top 15 or something like that, and that is for cash. Nick took 3rd on Saturday in the monthly and won $45 and a hat. So free food and beer. YAY

It was a free tournament. It was a satellite to a tournament in the Caribbean islands. The top 9 players move on to one more tournament, the winners of that get a trip to the Caribbean's and Poker Stars pays their 10k buy-in. It took about 2.5 hours. I started playing stupid at the end. It was 3:30 in the morning and I had to be at work at 9am.

what do you play in vegas? do you get in on tournaments or do you do the 1-2 no limit or whatever? The thought intimidates me, I haven't even played at the casinos here. It took me years to work up the nerve for blackjack and you still get some douchebag who gets mad if you hit when he thinks you should have stayed or vice versa. I can't imagine how full of testosterone the poker tables would be at a casino.

I'm not intimidated by the players, but more the casino. They are super strict about everything, and I don't really know all the proper etiquette and rules for playing poker in a casino. Plus like I said, I don't like being stuck there and not being able to get up and leave. I have fun playing Blackjack and Craps at casinos. With those games I know the rules I'm comfortable playing and I can come and go as I please.

408, I was intimidated too but then you realize there are a lot of dumb motherfuckers out there playing poker so why not join the ranks ;)

I still have trouble with the raise amounds on the turn and river sometimes. I eased into the poker room with limit games. So far I play 2-4 limit and 3-6 limit. Not much risk at all, you can get drunk as shit for free while you play and enjoy.

It's funny watching all the serious business folks at those tables though. I sat down at a 3-6 table at Luxor earlier this year and at my end of the table it was a fucking party, we were all joking and laughing and it was great. That group got up and left and then the other half of the table was all serious cat. This one guy had his sunglasses on. I was fucking wasted and told people to loosen up and have fun, it's a low limit table. I recieved glares. I left shortly after. I won $8 after 3 hours of poker but I also won drunkeness with many beers and a few shots to boot. I later did a cartwheel inside Excaliber.

I won a World Series of Poker bracelet with the hand 10-7 of diamonds.

Not only was that my winning hand, but I knew it would be the winning hand as soon as I looked at it. Seriously. Don't ask me how I knew, but I just did.

Anyway, 4 1/2 years later, I played this hand tonight at 30-60 Limit Hold 'em. (And yes, this is for real money.)

This was a heads up game. Remember this is a LIMIT game, so all bets have to be multiples of $30 on the first two betting rounds, and multiples of $60 on the second two.

Opponent had the button (meaning he acts last on all rounds except the first).

Pre-flop:

Opponent raises to $60.
I have Ten-diamonds, 7-diamonds. I raise to $90.
Opponent calls.

Flop:
8-diamonds
8-hearts
2-clubs

I bet $30.
Opponent calls.

Turn:

I bet $60.
Opponent raises to $120.

The domains of online poker’s three largest sites — PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, and Absolute Poker — were seized today by the FBI in what the LA Times calls a potential “death blow to the thriving industry.”

In addition, eleven of the sites’ executives were indicted on charges of bank fraud, money laundering, and other violations of a 2006 anti-online gambling law passed by Congress. Two executives have been arrested, while a manhunt is underway for the rest.

“These defendants concocted an elaborate criminal fraud scheme, alternately tricking some U.S. banks and effectively bribing others to assure the continued flow of billions in illegal gambling profits,” said US attorney Preet Bharara in a statement.

No word yet on what will become of the massive amounts of money presently stored in users’ accounts.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Online poker players in the United States will be able to withdraw money from accounts associated with two Internet poker companies recently indicted for bank fraud and money laundering, federal authorities said Wednesday.

The U.S. government has agreed to allow PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, two of the three largest Internet poker companies, to resume use of domain names that had been shut down last week.

Under the "domain name use agreements" the companies will be able to reactivate pokerstars.com and fulltiltpoker.com to "facilitate the withdrawal of U.S. players' funds held in account with the companies."

The agreement also allows for players outside of the United States to resume playing for "real money" on the two Websites.

Prosecutors said the same agreement is open to Absolute Poker, the third company indicted last week, if it chooses to accept.

Currently, the domain names of the three companies remain blocked, with a notice stating that violating U.S. gambling laws could result in five years in jail and fines of up to $250,000.

On April 15, federal authorities unsealed a sweeping indictment and civil complaint against 11 people in the United States and abroad, including the founders of PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker.
How a bridge champ beats the market

The government alleges that the companies, based offshore, used a network of payment processors to set up fraudulent U.S. bank accounts to launder money from online poker players in the United States.

While gambling is legal in some U.S. states, a 2006 law prohibits companies from knowingly accepting money from U.S. citizens for gambling online.

The government had filed "restraining orders" against several bank accounts and the domain names used by the poker companies. However, prosecutors contend that the companies were never required to freeze player accounts.

Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, said no player accounts were ever frozen or restrained, and each poker company has been free to reimburse any player's deposited funds.

"In fact, this office expects the companies to return the money that U.S. players entrusted to them, and we will work with the poker companies to facilitate the return of funds to players," Bharara said in a statement. To top of page

It’s not like these sites are FDIC insured or regulated with capital requirements and I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t have enough cash-on-hand to cover all withdrawals. May end up being something similar to a run on banks.

Full Tilt Poker to be sold to European investors
Deal could allow U.S. players to recover as much as $150 million from the online poker company, which was shut down by U.S. prosecutors in April,

By Nathaniel Popper, Los Angeles Times
July 1, 2011

A leading online poker company shut down by federal prosecutors is set to be bought by a group ofEuropean investors in a deal that could allow U.S. players to recover as much as $150 million.

Full Tilt Poker was one of three online poker sites that had its American operations shut down on April 15 when the founders of all three sites were indicted on charges of bank fraud, money laundering and violating gambling laws.

Full Tilt, Poker Stars and Absolute Bet continued to operate outside the United States, though Wednesday, Full Tilt's international operations were suspended by regulators in the British Channel Islands.

Full Tilt has not been able to pay back the roughly $150 million that U.S. players reportedly had in their accounts when the indictments were announced in Manhattan federal court, sparking outrage among players and a lawsuit from a top professional poker player sponsored by Full Tilt.

Poker Stars has returned more than $120 million that players had in their accounts. Absolute Bet, the smallest of the three companies shut down, hasn't repaid players.

Attorneys associated with Full Tilt said the company signed an agreement Thursday with a group of investors who would put up enough money to pay back players and in doing so attain a majority stake in Full Tilt's Irish parent company, Pocket Kings. The attorneys spoke anonymously because of the sensitivity of ongoing negotiations with the federal prosecutors in Manhattan who brought the charges.

The money is also intended to allow the company to settle a civil lawsuit brought against it by the U.S. attorney's office at the same time as the criminal indictment, the attorneys said.

The government is seeking to recover $3 billion from Full Tilt, Poker Stars and Absolute Poker.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office declined to comment.

The player who sued Full Tilt, Phil Ivey, sat out the World Series of Poker, which is currently taking place in Las Vegas, to protest the company's inability to repay players. Ivey was set to withdraw his lawsuit in Nevada state court Thursday, according to his attorney David Chesnoff.

"Mr. Ivey intends to dismiss his lawsuit as he believes Full Tilt is taking steps to see that the players are paid," Chesnoff said.

The deal was signed just a day after Full Tilt Poker's European operations were shut down by the gambling authorities on Alderney, a British crown dependency where Full Tilt is licensed. The Alderney Gambling Control Commission said in a statement that Full Tilt was "operating contrary to Alderney legislation. The nature of the findings necessitated the taking of immediate action in the public interest."

Attorneys close to Full Tilt said that the deal reached Thursday was part of broader negotiations to clear up its legal problems with Alderney and U.S. prosecutors.

NEW YORK - An Internet poker company that was blocked from operating in the U.S. in the spring as part of an online gambling crackdown was "not a legitimate poker company, but a global Ponzi scheme," federal prosecutors said Tuesday.

The popular Full Tilt Poker website illegally raided player accounts to fund operations and make lavish payments to its owners, Justice Department lawyers said in a revised civil lawsuit filed in New York.

Over four years, the company used $444 million in player money to pay board members, including well-known professional poker players Christopher Ferguson and Howard Lederer, investigators said.

The poker site had promised players that their accounts were protected and wouldn't be touched. But authorities say that, as of March, the company had only $60 million left in its bank accounts to cover the $390 million it owed to players. It routinely mingled player money with its own finances, and took cash from some customers to pay out winnings due to others, prosecutors said.

"Full Tilt was not a legitimate poker company, but a global Ponzi scheme," U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement. "Not only did the firm orchestrate a massive fraud against the U.S. banking system, as previously alleged, Full Tilt also cheated and abused its own players to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars."

A lawyer for the site, Barry Boss, was traveling Tuesday and not immediately available for comment. The Associated Press could not immediately locate Ferguson, Lederer or their representatives for comment.

Federal authorities initially sued Full Tilt Poker in April as part of a broad crackdown on the most popular online poker sites in the U.S. They also filed criminal charges against the company's two top executives, Nelson Burtnick and Raymond Bitar.

Those charges are pending, and the men are still being sought by authorities. Previously, they have issued statements through a publicist condemning the charges as unfounded.

Executives at two other sites, PokerStars and Absolute Poker, also face charges and civil suits seeking millions of dollars in gambling proceeds.

U.S. lawmakers made it a crime to accept money in connection with unlawful gambling in 2006, but some big card-playing sites continued to operate anyway, saying their off-shore status or methods of processing payments put them outside the law's reach.

Many of the companies did business by having gamblers deposit money in special online accounts. Those accounts were then used to pay losses and receive winnings.

In its revised lawsuit against Full Tilt, Justice Department lawyers said that even though the company had assured players that those accounts "are segregated and held separately from our operating accounts," they were actually drained regularly for other purposes, including paying the company's owners and board members.

Bitar got $41 million and Lederer got $42 million, the lawsuit said. Ferguson was supposed to get $87.5 million, although he may have only received $25 million of that amount so far, federal prosecutors claimed.

One time, dealer!!

Laurent Tapie of the Groupe Bernard Tapie confirmed to iGamingFrance last night that a principle agreement between his company and the Department of Justice has to purchase Full Tilt Poker has been reached.

According to Tapie, who serves as the marketing directory of the French investment group, a deal to take control of Full Tilt Poker could be finalised in the next 15 days, meaning that repayment plans have been put in place.

Though Tapie did not describe these plans in any particular detail, he did state that the terms had already been “defined” and that the DOJ’s deal stipulates that the group must begin paying back customers outside of the US immediately.

The agreement also states that the DOJ will begin to reimburse US players, though no further details of this arrangement have yet been revealed, and the final details of the takeover detail are still being ironed out by the two parties before Groupe Bernard Tapie can approach Full Tilt shareholders with an appropriate offer.

So I entered a $130 buy-in 300+ participant tournament at Caesars on Monday at Noon. 12 hours later the 8 of us remaining at the final table split the last $25,000 of the prize pool evenly.

Started the final table just below average in chips. Nearly doubled up when I took 9th place out and had about 125% avg stack. Near the end, I doubled up a lady who hit on the river taking me down to 2nd or 3rd lowest stack. The biggest chip leader then lost a huge hand. The table was very even and getting tired. Had that lady not hit her A on river, there would have been 6 left and I would have been close to, if not, chip leader. As it stood, I was fortunate to get an even chop.

The lady had position on me. I had QJ suited and hit a Jack on the flop with a 10 and a blank. I bet big, she called. Turn came an it was a Q. I checked, and like clockwork, she pushed all-in trying to get me out, and I called. She flipped over K 10. A on river gave her straight. We both played it perfectly, she just got her card.

stayed, played, and lost at the new Aria vegas resort a couple weeks ago. Went all in against two players for my last sixty bucks with K9 offsuit on a flop of 9 7 3 (two hearts) when the guy on the button called with pocket queens. Probably dumb, but I hated everyone at the table with their incessant yapping and was ready to leave anyway. Couldn't stand the entire table (cept for the cute, stylish japanese girl who whispered in my ear "maybe you'll triple up"), most likely due to losing two hundred bucks, but I also think I geniunely hated being around them.

Poker is just a fucked up game when you lose. Winning on the other hand...
