Mentioned yesterday, but:

http://www.brooklynvegan.com/img/music2/pilflyer.jpg

December 2009 sees the return of Public Image Limited for 5 very special live dates in the UK. Their first shows in 17 years.

The shows will mark the 30th Anniversary of the release of 'Metal Box' but PiL will NOT be limited to tracks from one album and the tour will showcase their whole career.

PiL founder John Lydon will be joined by former members Lu Edmonds (Guitar & Misc) and Bruce Smith (Drums), plus new recruit Scott Firth (Bass).

yes. Coachella.

but yes. would prefer Jah Wobble there.

Yeah, I realize Jah Wobble and Martin Atkins weren't there the whole time. (In fact, Atkins left early on.) But, honestly, who but the most hardcore fan could name any other members? There's nobody saying "Awesome, I can't believe Bruce Smith is coming back!"

Not that I wouldn't be front & center if the played Coach, but...eh. I'd probably rather see a reunion of The Damage Manual. (Especially since they canceled the time I actually had tickets.)

EDIT- Wait, I forgot Keith Levene.

TomAz

also, just for old times' sake:

I remember watching this with my mom and my mom was seriously pissed that these assholes were on tv.

So there's worry that their set will suck. But here's a recent setlist to maybe soothe some doubts:

# Public Image
# Careering
# This Is Not a Love Song
# Poptones
# Albatross
# Tie Me to the Length of That
# The Suit
# Death Disco
# Four Enclosed Walls
# Flowers of Romance
# Psychopath
# Disappointed
# Warrior
# U.S.L.S. 1
# Banging the Door
# Chant
# Bags
# Memories
# Annalisa
# Religion

Encore:

# Sun
# Rise
# Open Up

Ending with "Open Up" is a nice touch.

PiL is going be going amazing, hopefully no crazy conflict .like fever ray ,specials ,TCV , or worse during LCD

I think The Specials/PiL will be a one-two combo closing the outdoor. I don't know which of them would close though. Either way, it would be awesome.

"Death Disco" is going to be fucking ridiculous.

01-19-2010, 11:40 PM
It might be kind of unorthodox but I've always thought "Socialist/Chant/Radio 4" would be a cool way to open a set.

Jman4321
01-19-2010, 11:44 PM
Yeah I really hope they end up playing "Radio 4" at any point.

Also, yeah:

Is John Lydon wearing a fucking moo moo in that video?

Still-ill
01-19-2010, 11:56 PM
Also, thinking about it, probably (definitely) no "Radio 4" at Coachella. Maybe if they had a much longer set, I don't think the length of a Coachella set would give them the time to sufficiently utilize a track like that. Just a nice little pipe dream.

Jman4321
01-19-2010, 11:58 PM
This is beginning to echo my experience with Throbbing Gristle, wherein I became intrigued and excited about their live sets only to have them completely obliterate me when I finally saw them. Hope it's the same.

I used to think John Lydon was an intolerable twat who made some very good music in his day. Now I'm beginning to think he's an endearing, entertaining twat who made some very good music in his day.

smartest thing Lydon has done was reuniting PIL and I bet Jah Wobble probably wasn't into it since he's still busy putting out records.

P.i.L. conflicting with Fever Ray/Echo/Specials would kill me :(
I honestly don't know who I would choose if any conflicted. The vids of P.i.L. are amazing I know I would regret it if I missed them.

Still-ill
01-20-2010, 09:30 AM
Well a Specials or Echo conflict would be daft. But, yeah... I'm slightly worried for Fever Ray.

I'm not missing Fever Ray for anyone. Conflicts be damned.

Friday is gunna be a bitch for conflicts. Specials/Echo/P.i.L./Grace Jones/Fever Ray. I would likely never have a chance to see any of those again except echo, this is gunna hurt.

Im not missing them either. The Glasshouse show was mind blowing, and this is the only 2010 show, its gunna be amazing.

rage patton
01-20-2010, 02:20 PM
There is no way PiL and The Specials would conflict. Like I said earlier, I bet the Outdoor closes with a PiL/The Specials 1-2 combo.

stinkbutt
01-20-2010, 02:56 PM
No way they put the either of the 2 big reunions against Fever Ray who seem way more likely to close out whatever stage or tent

bmack86
01-20-2010, 04:47 PM
I dont' see PiL and Fever Ray conflicting. They're both odd, obtuse music.

PassiveTheory
01-20-2010, 04:51 PM
I see it happening, mainly because PiL is weird obtuse music for one generation and Fever Ray is weird obtuse music for another generation. They'd draw wildly dissimilar crowds, IMO.

Still-ill
01-20-2010, 04:56 PM
I'd be willing to bet most of the people on this board who love PiL also probably like Fever Ray. Not vice-versa as much though.

I didn't even remember I liked PiL until today. I am now much more interested in this performance. I also like Fever Ray.

These videos have given me faith this reunion won't suck. Someone do the same for Sly Stone please.

(Yes, I realize that isn't really a reunion. But the dude has done mountains of drugs, and it's not 1969 anymore.)

I heard that the recent reunion shows were fantastic. I don't remember where, though...

Edit: nevermind. The reviews uniformly say the shows that they did were horrible. 100% depends on who they are scheduled against.
