ok, here's a thread for people to vent who they think should not be added to the coachella lineup for 2010.

for my own entry, i'm gonna go ahead and say girl talk shouldn't be added. really tired of annoying mashup djs. this shit has to stop.

no. no girl talk this year.

Also a good amount of what was in the Sahara last year.

There's still plenty of great indie bands that have yet to play...no need to book awful ones like Aeriel Pink, Vivian Girls, etc.
Kings of Leon
Sahara acts known for killer live sets doing dj sets.
MSTRKRFT (great surprise there. yep).
Steve Aoki.
Amy Winehouse.
Scientology personality test booth.
La Roux.
Uffie.
Hermie Gaga.

I wouldn't mind Tenacious D there, so long as they aren't taking up a valuable headliner/subheadliner slot.

careful, don't request Float On from the audience either. Their ultra douche singer might freak out and berate you from the stage repeatedly throughout the show, even stopping the band from playing while he rants on and on about it. I'm unflappable. As with any and all Coachella lineups I'll simply use it as a tool to discover new bands. Thus, like a musical chameleon, adapt to the environment I'm placed in for maximum enjoyment at all times. Last year--every year for that matter--being case and point. Booya!

Um. Non Sahara bands I saw last year (virtually full sets only):

They didn't play Ocean Breathes Salty either.
I hate that so much. People actually like a work you created and you're somehow too good to play it for them? Besides, why would you intentionally alienate people who like your band?

I think it's pretty stupid of Radiohead not to play Creep too. At this point I don't expect them to play it at every show because they have such a large catalog, but why go out of your way to not (ever) play your biggest song?

I personally have no qualms against any act being on the lineup. It's idiotic to complain about any band added to a massive festival, but for the sake of being selfish:

Muse (because their last two albums are complete garbage, so you're guaranteed that, bare minimum, 60% of their set will also be complete garbage.)

Tenacious D (because I've seen them already, not terrible, just shtick and skits are only funny once.)

Joanna Newsom (because she sounds better indoors and if there's annoying talking and bleeding of sound during Leonard Cohen, her songs would get wrecked.)

Red Hot Chili Peppers (because they haven't released a good album in 17 years, so you're guaranteed a mediocre set list with all the bland songs they've recorded since Blood Sugar...)

Pearl Jam (because Eddie's voice is fading fast.)

Green Day (because it's embarrassing when people look at the top tier names and say 'Oh you're going to take off work to travel to see Green Day'.)

The Dead Weather (because if you want to see Jack White, you shouldn't have to lower your standards. And frankly, I can't imagine that they will still be around by Coachella.)

Kings of Leon (because they make awful, mediocre music.)

Electro/French House DJs

Lots to choose from here (off the top of my head)

I've arranged them by the drawing power:
Bowie - Always possible, never likely
Coldplay - Would be an odd pick a la The Cure '09
Depeche Mode - Would be an odd pick a la The Cure '09
The White Stripes - Always possible, never likely
Beck - Performing a one-off is more likely than using him for a main draw since he saturates the So Cal market pretty often when he tours
Outkast - Pretty unlikely.
Daft Punk - People don't want to hear Tron2 songs, so I suspect they'll tour in late 2010 or Coachella 2011
Tears for Fears - Could work, doesn't seem likely.
Oingo Boingo - Danny Elfman doesn't want to go deaf, so this will never happen at Coachella. Perhaps a one-off for charity years ahead in the future.
Gorillaz - Unless there's solid news that their album is done in December, it will be unlikely, because they seem the types to plan out elaborate shows that will take months of preparation.
MGMT - Entirely plausible
Interpol - Haven't kept up on their career, but entirely plausible
Tenacious D - Depends on the headliner they open for, but plausible
Arctic Monkeys - Entirely plausible
David Byrne - A year late, so it would be out of place, but possible
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Last I heard, he's working on a new Grinderman album, so if true, unlikely
The Faint - Haven't kept up on their career, but entirely plausible
Tom Waits - Probably never going to happen.
Junior Senior - Unlikely. Most bands are broken up for more than a year before they reunite. Wait a few years.
Scissor Sisters - Their album's out in March, so entirely plausible.

Of your list, I'd say that 2 of them will play next year with 75% confidence.

Ok, now allow me to clarify. It's not that I hate Blur or Faith No More, I just have a very specific wishlist for 2010. I would hate to see a spot get taken by one of them when it couldve been something from my list.

You do realize how selfish that sounds and is part of the reason you get so much shit around here, right? Especially since you had a pretty much perfect year this year and you've seen about half the acts from your wishlist already. I'm not saying that to be a dick or impress anyone. Also, people take this wishlist shit way too seriously so they say the lineup sucks when it doesn't stack up instead of being impressed with the ridiculous overload of quality acts that actually do make the lineup. You've all been to enough Coacellas by now to know the line up is going to be great even if it's not exactly what you want. Shut the fuck up.

The only bands I specifically don't want at Coachella, ever, are the Britney Spears, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Gym Class Heroes and Katy Perry's of the world. Lady Gaga is out too because that Pokerface song is fucking atrocious. Coachella has a reputation to uphold that acts like this would tarnish, in my eyes anyway. Not to be an indie snob, but they're too mainstream and it comes across as uninteresting music. Not a good vibe.

Outside of that, I'll make it work.

Who the fuck cares? What am I supposed to do, hope everyone else gets their favorite bands too? You're acting like I have some pull in any of this, why would I waste time and energy hoping and praying for bands that I have no interest in seeing? Sorry guys, I dont want your bands there. I want my bands.

and fuck you Patrick. I ignore so much fucking shit you say on here because I dont want to be mean

I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything. It just comes off as really selfish. Why do you waste so much time and energy hating on bands you don't like over and over? Why wouldn't you want other people, people who are your friends, to get the bands they want to see as well, especially rare acts? Is your happiness more valuable than everyone elses'? You know there will be a ton of stuff that you'll be excited about come January. You probably won't get your perfect lineup, but no one does, that's not what a music festival is about. If Muse or Tenacious D or someone else I don't give a fuck about is on, I'll go see another band/dj at one of the 4 other stages, or the Dome, or the Do-Lab, or check out the art, or eat some food, or just hang out with people and have a good time. This whole thread is retarded so it's not like you're the only one doing it. So much time bitching about what isn't on the lineup and so little devoted to finding new bands to get excited about around here. It's boring and it's lame.

And I don't know why it matters. It doesn't really. I just have way too much free time to spend on the board so I start petty arguments like anyone else.

Sorry Salah, you got Salahchella last year. The Killers, The Cure, Morrisey, Franz Ferdinand, The Black Keys, Connor O, Yeah Yeah Yeah, etc, etc. All of these acts were on your wishlist. Want to know how many act on my sortlist were there? None. Want to know what my favorite Coachella so far has been? 2009. I know and you know, even if not a single band from your wishlist in on the line up next year, it will be great as always. Now stop acting so silly. You can go ahead a wish all the band you do want to be there. Go right ahead. But to wish other peoples favorite bands aren't there, even if you don't hate said bands, just so your favorites are, is just a little rediculous and, yes, selfish.

Hello. Muse is a very strong possibility and RHCP won't be there. As for info on next year. Check this and the 2010 predictions thread. But this early, it's all speculation and semi educated guesses at best.

This "fit" talk is bullshit. Coachella is not about cookie cutter indie rock and electro bands, even if that makes up the majority (plurality?). I love Coachella because you don't get the same thing at every stage all day (or even every year). Diversity is good and it fits. Otherwise they wouldn't book Prince and Rage Against the Machine and Throbbing Gristle.
