View Full Version : Coachella obsession?

Vericuester

My friend thinks I'm obsessed with Coachella, because I look up tickets real late/early and get on the forum at ungodly hours. But that could be also because I'm doing other stupid things with my life, behaviors I will cease immediately...

So am I obsessed for looking prices up and recalculating the price tag over and over? I do have a budget I want to stick with and if I don't look them up and contact the seller, I might not get tickets.

I can't even count how many times a day I check this forum! I don't post as often as some others, but I sure am obsessed. It's weird though, I'm always obsessed with at least one website at any certain time. Thank you to Coachella for filling that void (not to mention being an interesting read) Yeah - I know, get a life. But I'm in front of a computer all day and evening so it's right there, tempting me to check and see if Underworld's been added yet!!

Not that weird, I think most of us do it. I hope I'm not going to be hitting refresh on this forum for an entire two months. :/

'obsessed' is such a perjorative term. you need a word with a better, more positive spin. like.. i dunno.. 'intrigued'. or 'keenly interested'. or .. whatever

CuervoPH
02-18-2007, 08:19 AM
Besides, you haven't really crossed over the line to obsession until you start worrying about post counts.

Speaking of that, how did Tom get that far ahead of me? Obviously I'm being too productive at work during the week. That has to stop and stop now.

You guys need to wait at least 3 more years and 5000 posts before I will confirm you as being "officially" obsessed. Most of you people are gonna love us and leave us the day after Coachella is over.

Honestly, I just wanted an excuse to post that picture.

I do think there are varying degrees of, um, "enthusiasm." I certainly haven't (and probably never will) reach vinylmartyr status, or tessa or tom or whoever posts the most on here. But then again, there are also many other ways to express enthusiasm, besides posting on a message board.

I hope that the original poster responds with some digital photos of the inside of his apartment, which is plastered from floor to ceiling with Coachella paraphernalia. Now that would be awesomely obsessive.

I should definitely post more...

Hey Vinyl, since I won't be able to make Coachella this year, my first time seeing the Dodgers will be in June when Toronto is in L.A. ...Let me know if you make it to any of that weekend series (and no, I'm not asking cause I want booty...)

Oh no, you guys...We need an intervention. At Coachella!

Hah. Well, what's crazy is that people are on at all hours of the night.

I made a shirt and made plans that I have been obsessing over without even getting tickets yet and still, I don't know if I can go for sure. It'll be all better in 2 months though, right?

I hate to sound like a typical teenager, but my parents and my friends don't understand how important this is to me. I mean...they don't feel the same way when they listen to music. But I'm sure everyone can say something like that.

A year in the life of the Coachella obsessed:

May-October: review the bands just seen at Coachella, scour the internets for bootlegs, and pictures and reviews better than your own, bore everyone you know with Coachella tales...aka the slow, boring times
November-December: DAMNIT, where are all the rumors and "confirmations"? I'm checking the board 10 times a day!
January: lineup is coming ANY DAY NOW...right? spend 5 hours a day debating it here or posting rumors and speculation on blog
lineup announcement-the big weekend: "Damnit, why isn't this band or that band playing? I hate that band, why are they playing instead? Okay, no worries, I just downloaded some Coachella artist mp3's and now I have new favorites." then it's time to deal with getting tickets, transportation, camping stuff, Coachella buddies, time off of work and school, and most importantly: stress about the schedule and inevitable conflicts

and repeat

rampaige
02-18-2007, 08:43 PM
^^^

That is so true. On the day the lineup was rumored to be announced, both this year and last year, I spent hours refreshing my browser.

And now that Coachella is approaching, it is ALL I talk about. I know my friends are sick of it (well, the ones that aren't going at least.) And whoever mentioned making their budget over and over, I do the same thing. I'm so worried I won't have the money saved up by the time it rolls around, even though I have elaborate charts comparing the cost differences of flying into LAX, Palm Springs, etc. It's rather pathetic.

I've decided this year after Coachella I'm sticking around on the boards. People here make me laugh. And it's nice to have a diversion from work.

I talk about Coachella so much my friends want to silence me. Somehow I can bring up Coachella in almost any conversation. When Coachella is here I am focused on getting there, getting in and seeing and doing as much as possible. I plan a schedule, map everything out and if my schedule gets thrown off I freak out.

One of my friends this year said she wanted to go so she came to Coachella with me. First off, she was late meeting me to leave because she said her boss was parked behind her car and she couldn't leave becuase he was in a meeting. Then she wanted to pack sandwiches for the drive which she made at the last minute so we left late. Then when we were trying to leave Los Angeles and she wanted to stop at a specific coffee stand and get a special coffee. Then she needed stop every couple 45 minutes in the drive to get something.

As we were approaching Palm Springs she wanted to stop at Target and buy special shoes for Coachella. Then she needed another coffeee. Then when were in the parking lin to drive in she needed to stop and use the restroom.

When we were in Coachella she kept complaining about how dirty it was and flipped out because of the heat and dust. I had warned her in advance.

Not only did we get there late but she wanted to leave early because she said her feet hurt from walking and standing so much.

We ended up staying but by the end of the first day I was a nervous wreck and she said I was a psycho for being so concerned about getting to Coachella so fast and wanting to stay for the whole thing (when we were late).

I had warned her in advance what to expect and told her to only go if she really wanted to. She said she did want to go and was ready...

Sigh..

arden, i feel you on that.

i used to go to shows with friends who would bring me down or not be into it like me.

now when i go to shows its ususally me and my wife and she totally understands thta i run the show at concerts! only cuz she gives me credit for having everything planned out and prepped so we can get there an not worry about anything but having fun at the show.

i took my brothers to the rock the bells show and i told them i run it and we have a itinerary. they laughed but i told them "trust me you will enjoy yourself better if we plan it out. right after they both said "dude thanks so much for having it planned out" i had the parking thing planned, what time to get there etc etc. its take a while but ive got it down to a science!

arden i love that you plan that way. now i know im not the only one.

does anyone here make concert cd samplers to get to know all the groups? for coachella i had 240 songs from every artist! i love it!

How coincidental is this? I was thinking about posting a thread asking everyone if the Coachella Board were to suddenly shut down, how much more we would get done in our daily lives? I, myself have been fortunate/unfortunate to have most of the summer off because of my job, and there are days/nites that I just leave this damn thing on and check in on all the new imfo, laughs, and of course the music discussions at intervals. In about 3 weeks, my work season begins again and I'm already getting the heeby-jeebies wondering how I'll find the time to keep up with the board and the spirit of Coachella it brings...The amusement you guys have brought me this summer really saved me from going out alot and spending $$$ I didn't have~ Thanks! The best part of it all is reading how excited everyone gets about a place I live, that really is pretty much like bum-fucked Egypt the rest of the year and then watching it turn into a mecca of people I can share the love of music with~ Obsession? Addiction? No...It's the Coachella Way~
