According to the live blog from the Disney panel @ Comic Con, Daft Punk has put together 20+ songs for the new Tron movie and will be doing a tour based on the movie.

12:35 Stephen Johnson:
Fan question time!

12:37 Stephen Johnson:
Fan: Why did you choose Daft Punk to do the music? A: How could you not? We met them, and hit it off from the beginning. We've done 24 tracks for the movie.

12:38 Stephen Johnson:
Fan: Will there be a Daft Punk tour based on this music? A: I guarantee it.

A tour? Do we even know what the new Tron is going to look like? Is it going to be similar to the old one or totally revamped?

I could see a Tron themed tour that would involve throwing disks, riding in the light cycles, battling the master control program, etc.

Because the Disney panel is the "guarantee." I just don't see Daft Punk doing a "Tron-themed" tour.

I agree, I thought it was pretty obvious that some of the graphics were a tribute of sorts to Tron. I don't know. Maybe I am just skeptical because DISNEY just anounced a Daft Punk tour. For some reason my mind just can't process it as an actual tour anouncement.

Also, where is this trailer you speak of?

I did a google search and found the trailer. Well, it's not really a trailer, it's more like a "Sneak Peak" of a scene from the movie. It's a bootleg from Comic Con only, you can hear the crowd cheering. It looks good from what I saw. I'm glad to see Jeff Bridges is in it again!

That would be a very wise move on Bonnaroo's part, but I don't see it happening if we go by past electronic/dance artists at Bonnaroo. Late night set for DP would be INSANE.

I hope the music isn't too crazy-dance-pyramid and more minimalist and ambient. More exciting music during the action sequences, of course, but hopefully more in the light of "Steam Machine" and not like "Technologic" or "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger."

I think the Orb should have done this, but whatever, I'm excited about it!

I'm down for some cycle action.

A Tron inspired tour is a great way to bypass the inevitable post Alive tour sophomore slump. This way it's not like they have to trump the Pyramid themselves, which leaves them open to do whatever they want on the tour following the Tron tour.

The pitchfork article has a funny mistake.

Earlier today, Kosinski spoke at Comic-Con International, giving a few tantalizing details about the flick. According to Movieline (via Idolator), someone in the crowd at Kosinski's panel asked him if Daft Punk would tour their soundtrack, and he said that "there would definitely be Daft Punk Tron-themed events on the horizon." Tron Legacy isn't due until 2007, and we've been burned by movie directors before, so don't start polishing your robot helmet just yet. But if this is true, it could be so awesome.

You actually have a great point. Up until this point, I thought no matter what Daft Punk did for their next tour, it won't meet expectations. The pyramid was just too fantastic. However, if they do a "tron-themed" tour... then it is a sort of out, if you will, to not have the pressure to create something greater than the pyramid.

I hope the music isn't too crazy-dance-pyramid and more minimalist and ambient. More exciting music during the action sequences, of course, but hopefully more in the light of "Steam Machine" and not like "Technologic" or "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger."

I actually think Daft Punk is a great choice for the soundtrack. As stinkbutt and Daft Punk themselved have already said, they are huge fans of Tron. I am sure they didn't just knock out 20+ songs for the sake of making them. I have faith a great deal of time and thought went into every single track. They aren't going to Human After All this. I have a feeling there is definitely going to be a good deal of minimalist and ambient tracks. Probably some stuff like we have never before heard from Daft Punk. But there will probably be some more upbeat stuff dance-y too, though, more like what Daft Punk are known for and what we are used too. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the songs turn out sounding more like Homework though.

I'd rather have had Kraftwerk do the soundtrack.

Can't argue with you there.

Yeah but if Disney is running this you don't know what you might get. He could mean that there is going to be a Tron Themed Show with Daft Punk's music but they won't neccesarily be there. Just how they do those High School Musical Tours and it's really nobody from the movie on the tour.

I can see it now, "Disney Presents Tron on Ice with the Music of Daft Punk featuring an appearance by Wall-E"

I'd rather have Igor Vlasov or Tangerine Dream (early '80s style only) do the soundtrack.

Theres just too much awesome attached to this already

According to the live blog from the Disney panel @ Comic Con, Daft Punk has put together 20+ songs for the new Tron movie and will be doing a tour based on the movie.

12:35 Stephen Johnson:
Fan question time!

12:37 Stephen Johnson:
Fan: Why did you choose Daft Punk to do the music? A: How could you not? We met them, and hit it off from the beginning. We've done 24 tracks for the movie.

12:38 Stephen Johnson:
Fan: Will there be a Daft Punk tour based on this music? A: I guarantee it.

All joking aside this would be cool but I agree with other posts on here and I would definitely wait for an official statement from the robots themselves.

There has been a lot of speculation that Daft Punk might have a surprise show at the Con, where they could unveil some tracks from the upcoming sequel. Variety even claimed that Disney’s Comic-Con presence would include “a performance by Daft Punk”. I’ve even heard people talking about a giant concert in Petco Park, right next store to the convention center.

While I don’t know anything about what might actually happen involving Tron at Comic-Con, I can tell you this: My music industry sources have told me not to expect a live musical performance from Daft Punk. We may hear some of their music in a new trailer or new footage which will likely premiere at a scheduled panel, but as of right now, Daft Punk is not set to be in San Diego for the event.

AUDIO HOLOGRAMS!!!!

Taken from Screen Rant:

http://screenrant.com/tron-legacy-images-soundtrack-sandy-67712/

Don’t expect the Tron Legacy soundtrack to simply be a cash-grab either, the two French musicians that make up Daft Punk (Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Mauel de Homem-Christo) are reportedly intimately involved in the film’s production process. Director Kosinski claims that he and his filmmaking crew have “built them a studio, they come to dailies, script meetings and trailer edits. We’ve been editing to their temp scores. The music is fully integrated.”

The film’s unique sound design doesn’t end there. It seems that 50 select theaters, equipped with the necessary technology, will show Tron Legacy in what Kosinski calls “3D sound.” Essentially, the tech known as Iosono creates “an audio hologram” that allows for an individual bit of audio to be projected from almost any location in the theater. Chew on that thought for a while.

Interesting. I've seen the first theatrical trailer in 3-D and in regular format and thought both of those looked boring. The 3-D version had great sound and looked a little cool but ultimatley boring as shit which is how I remember the original as a child.
However, this trailer actually looks decent to me. I like how the story is looking. I'm actually interested in seeing this movie for more than just the Daft Punk soundtrack now. Also, bringing Jeff Bridges back and using technology to have him and his original 30 something self in scenes together looks really cool.

I hope this isn't the only thing Disney is doing for Tron that is music related.

It’s a Elec-TRON-ica Dance Party for Disney

While the future of dance music events in America is up for discussion, Disney has announced the launch of ElecTRONica at Disney California Adventures. Based on the upcoming TRON: Legacy, ElecTRONnica is going to be an interactive, after-dark, arcade-like, (family friendly) dance party in the Tron world with music, lasers, “glow accessories,” and hopefully, night cycle rides/competitions.

Not quite the dance party I was hoping for but TRON plus Disneyland plus lasers: I’m excited.

As the Dec. 17 premiere of Disney’s “Tron: Legacy” approaches, The Robots are coming out of hibernation.

Daft Punk, the celebrated French duo who composed the film’s soundtrack and are expected to make a cameo appearance as themselves in the 3D sci-fi epic, will unveil the first new Daft Punk music since 2005’s “Human After All” with the November release of “Tron Soundtrack” and are plotting a series of public appearances in the weeks leading up the the film’s release. The duo is also actively designing and routing a 2011/2012 tour that will headline stadiums internationally.

Rob Light, Managing Partner and Head of Music of CAA, which represents Daft Punk, has said he expects the film soundtrack and tour will lead a dance music juggernaut worldwide. “This is going to be the biggest tour of next year,” he recently told the Daily Swarm.

The film’s soundtrack is due in November, although the exact release date remains undecided. A dedicated website for the soundtrack launched this week, and the registration confirmation reveals that the album is coming out through Universal (and not Daft Punk’s longtime distributor EMI). At least some of the distribution is going through Topspin, which suggests several collector’s editions and a vinyl release will be available (like the Beastie Boys reissue series). Several snippets of the new Daft Punk music can be heard on the film’s official site, while fake versions have plagued music and film blogs all summer.

Daft Punk are expected to make several in-person appearances in the lead-up to the film’s release: a series of surprise live sets at film screenings in major international cities, the group’s first ever live television performance (they performed with Kanye West on the Grammys in 2008), and a set at the film’s gala Hollywood premiere are all under consideration.
The group may also make several appearances at “ElecTRONica”—what Disney is promoting as “the greatest nighttime dance party to ever rock Disney California Adventure park.” Set to open Oct. 8 on the Hollywood Studio backlot, “ElecTRONica” will have a food court, open air dance club, a recreation of the “Flynn’s Arcade” set from the film, and promises “live entertainers, complete with lasers, glow accessories and the hottest music ever to rock the grid.”

But Daft Punk are not planning a full scale tour until 2011, and according to Daily Swarm sources, the new production isn’t likely to be ready until late next summer at the earliest. The group debuted its iconic pyramid stage and light show at the 2006 Coachella music festival and toured festivals and amphitheaters on and off for the next 18 months, ending with a 5-date trek through Japan and Australia in Dec. 2007.

It remains unclear whether or not Daft Punk will release further new music prior to the tour, and if the “Tron” theme will carry over into the tour’s production

Daft Punk may actually play at Disneyland.... ohh the control Disney has over those under them. But still good news!

That would be 100 X better but I was going off the "late summer". I wouldn't rule out Coachella or Roo though. This is all still a long way off. A tron set at Coachella could happen.

Honestly I probably would rule out Coachella 2011... but Coachella 2012 I'm going to say is almost guaranteed at this point.

And as far as the Disneyland appearences go... I can completely picture this happening. What better way for Disney to make even more money than have Daft Punk show up, play 5 songs and have every fan within 200 miles show up only for the Daft Punk performance. They would still have to buy a ticket at regular price to get into California Adventure. It would be ridiculously crowded for their appearences.

I'll believe it when their name isn't on the poster. This is all hearsay and could be conjecture on their part. They might not be launching a full scale tour until late summer, but I could see them playing Coachella as a sort of one off prior to that massive tour.

By the way I'm officially calling bullshit on the part about the set up not being ready until late in the summer.
