I'm a huge fan of these guys so i'll go ahead and post this:

http://consequenceofsound.net/2009/07/21/a-place-to-bury-strangers-announce-most-appropriately-titled-album-ever/

Speakers and eardrums beware! A Place To Bury Strangers will soon be returning with a new album and by the sound of it, the loudest rock band known to man looks to be getting even louder.

“The original idea,” says vocalist/guitarist Oliver Ackermann, “was to create the craziest, most f’ed-up recording ever.”

On October 20th, we’ll hear what the New York outfit came up with when it releases Exploding Head via Mute Records. The followup to the band’s 2007 self-titled debut is billed as “43 mesmerizing minutes of pain as pleasure,” the result of “paranoid android pop,” “gorgeous gate-crashing melodies,” “Chinese water torture chords” and all the other over-the-top ways of describing sounds that are ear-bleedingly loud.

A Place to Bury Strangers will look to live up to its album’s title when the band hits the road this fall. The month-long trek will pair the noise rockers up with the likes of Dead Confederate, All the Saints and Darker My Love.

Cherish the silence while you have the chance.

Exploding Head Tracklist:
01. It Is Nothing
02. In Your Heart
03. Lost Feeling
04. Deadbeat
05. Keep Slipping Away
06. Ego Death
07. Smile When You Smile
08 Everything Always Goes Wrong
09. Exploding Head
10. I Live My Life To Stand In The Shadow Of Your Heart

Holy shit, APTBS at Plush? Fuck yes, we're going. Road trip!

I wish it wasn't a goddamn Tuesday night right after we get back from London. Oh well.

that Echo show will sell out for sure, Darker My Love can sellout that place by themselves if their last residency and Echoplex shows are any indication.

I'm amazed they're playing the Echo. Kind of disappointed, actually. Because yeah they'll definitely sell it out, they could probably sell out Echoplex in advance. And I don't really think they're a band that is that much better in a tiny venue than in a kinda-tiny venue?

EDIT: same night as Yo La Tengo. I'm goin with Yo La Tengo.

Very, very tempting, especially since I missed them at Coachella. The only drawback is that it's the night after I see U2. It'll be a busy week.

Just be glad it's the night after U2 and not the night before. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to hear Bono perform.

I need to catch the Echo show since it gives me the chance to see two bands on my "check out" list: A Place to Bury Strangers and Darker My Love.

07-22-2009, 01:29 PM
I'll probably buy a ticket to this next time I go to Origami. Word to the wise; the record store next to the Echo sells tickets for the Echo and Echoplex without service fees.

JorgeC

Is Origami the new Sea Level? I remember that the guy that had Sea Level said they would be opening back up, but never heard a peep.

bmack86
07-22-2009, 02:10 PM
Kind of. I think one of the guys who worked at Sea Level started it up. They only sell vinyl, and only new vinyl. They have a decent selection and decent prices and are really nice. I got Moon Safari by Air and Feels by Animal Collective for about 20 bucks.

I didn't get to catch them at Coachella, but I love the album. What's the live experience like, people?

I have theatre tickets on 10/29, so I'll have to miss them again, but I'm sure they play NY fairly regularly.

I've seen em twice - Coachella and a DC show back in June - and it was great.

Expect very loud guitar work and strobes. Bring your earplugs. The DC show was the loudest show I've ever seen - but I have yet to see MBV in an indoor venue (but in 1 week that will change!!).

not a bad album, very rehash though.

I don't get what you guys were expecting. Yes, it sounds like the first album. With one difference. Its better. I love this album. Listened to it 2.5 times and it might just be my favorite album of the year. I just don't see what you guys were expecting. "More growth?" "Rehash?" Really?

I do actually hear a little bit of difference on this album. I felt the first album was very influenced by the Jesus and Mary Chain. While on this album, I feel like they ventured into more MBV territory. Also, Deadbeat has a very western feel to it.

I dunno. I just love this album.

Yeah, this album has been at the top of my rotation since I first listened. Can't get enough of it.

Of course the album sounds similar, but I also think it is much better than the first. Somebody mentioned MBV, that was the impression it first gave me as well. I cannot wait to finally see them.

We've been talking about this fine band in some other threads, but I think they're all in the "Rumors" and "Line Up" forums. This seems more appropriate. And the title of the thread still matches. New album and tour(s)...

A Place to Bury Strangers Announce New LP With Thunderous 'You Are the One'

Worship' due out on June 26 via Dead Oceans

Underneath effects-pedal whiz Oliver Ackermann's industrial-grade squalls of distortion, A Place to Bury Strangers have always tucked away shimmery goth-pop songcraft. Both aspects of the New York band return in equal measure on "You Are the One," the advance MP3 from the group's upcoming album Worship, which Dead Oceans will release on June 26. Building on last year's Onwards to the Wall EP, it's the first album from Ackermann and the crew since 2009's Exploding Head.

You Are the One" has more of the ear-rending sonics on which Ackermann has built his Death by Audio business, though he always seems to keep the shrillest settings to himself. At the same time, the song is a simple plea for a lover who's gone, with Ackermann almost whispering at points atop the lockstep, krautrock-tinged pummeling. When he mentions an engine, though, he might as well be describing the sonic backdrop here, which sculpts something unexpectedly elegant out of the type of din you'd expect to hear on an airport tarmac.

A Place to Bury Strangers wrote, recorded, mixed, and mastered Worship. "Every sound on the album is made by us and our tools," bassist Dion Lunadon says in a statement. "Tools created by us, used on no other recordings, and purposefully built for this project … We are not trying to reinvent ourselves, but simply push ourselves further in all aspects of our music." So far, so loud.

Worship Track List:
"Alone"
"You Are The One"
"Mind Control"
"Worship"
"Fear"
"Dissolved"
"Why I Can't Cry Anymore"
"Revenge"
"And I'm Up"
"Slide"
"Leaving Tomorrow"

Yes on the ear plugs unless you don't really need the ability to hear conversation again. Get to the stage and prepare to be mesmerized. Hope you get to see them this go round. We'll probably catch the Houston Show.

In a venue with sterile sound they sound just like their EPs, they lose cohesiveness when they don't have great sound.
