Even if they make the World Series it won't matter. The game on Halloween is a NL home game.

It was a Radio Soulwax Essential Mix called "50,000,000 Soulwax Fans Can't Be Wrong", one of my favorites by them. It's not all electro, it has a good mixture of styles of music.

I went to the Glen Helen once, I hated it. I swore I would never go back. The traffic situation definitely was a nightmare. I don't see how it would work so well for a rave. There is a minuscule pit in front, lots of seats, and the lawn area is sloped...probably hard for dancing. So if the main stage is located at the picture above, it may not be so enjoyable. Dare I go back?!

If it's at Glenn Hellen i will not be going, that is for sure. If it's at NOS i am way stocked for this, but if who8me2k7 is correct and capacity is 60,000 NOS isn't a possibility because it can't hold 60,000 people.

Im working now with the guys from HARD to set up a bus/limo service to and from the event from downtown for USC students. Id be willing to expand it to other people (especially people from this forum) so let me know if you'd be interested. Price would most likely be around the $75 range for ticket and transportation but im trying to set something up with them so that the price would be lower....Of course if you already bought a ticket, it would only be like $20.

Ill have the final plans when I hear back about them securing a venue

I remember when I went to the first Moby Area Festival out at Glen Helen and there were a bunch of locals in pick up trucks waiting off the freeway yelling, "Go back you weirdos!"

And I remember when I saw Snoop Dogg and the Sheriffs were waiting on the sides of the stage for him or the fans to do something crazy so they could take action.

And I remember when I tried to go to No Doubt / Blink 182 / Living End and the traffic was so bad the show had ended and we hadn't even gotten to the freeway exit yet (4 hours later, trapped on the freeway, unable to move, nowhere near an exit).

It's going to be interesting, hopefully it won't be a total disaster if it happens there.

Next time you are near there stop by "Country Corner" right near the Glen Helen / Block Buster / Hyundai / San Manuel / Whatever it is called this week to get a feel for the local flavor.

ELECtROjan
08-21-2009, 04:22 PM
I think it also has to do with safety and security then about money. A lot of the venues would love to throw more events, but if one is run poorly or if someone gets hurt/dies they get sued. With a company like Insomniac or GoVentures they know how to run an event so venues like having them.

WhyTheLongFace
08-21-2009, 04:38 PM

What would the contract be? No raves? Cause they have other events there. Paid Dues and other shows that I cant think of now. But that's 1.

suprefan

No, them having a contract with them means they have exclusivity for rave type events and cant do something with another promoter.

from when i talked to Tom at HARD it seemed like they werent even considering the Shrine....kinda of got the feeling that they thought they were too big for it. Plus he mentioned that the front stage (where 2ManyDj's, Boys Noize, Crystal Castles, etc. played) is a huge security risk because there are so many ways to sneak in and all teh electrical has to get routed where everyone comes in.

and yes, there is the issue with liquor licenses. Worst comes to worst they would only be able to serve alcohol inside the auditorium or where that 4th stage was at HM so I guess its not that bad, but u wouldnt be able to drink at 2 of the 4 stages.

A real shame.... I love that place

suprefan

Im trying to think where they could have it and it be grass and no seats. That doesnt exists, this isnt new york where you could do it in Central Park, or Randalls Island... Well if they had so cal weather on halloween, which they do not. See, Fairplex would work cause you do it on the infield of the racetrack and thats plenty of space in between stages to have lots of people and things in between if you did a stage at each side. Also, the facility has all thats need to pull this off. you hear that Destructo? FAIRPLEX.

it better not be anywhere near san bernardino especially the glen helen. Its a nightmare trying to get out of the parking lot

hahahaha... only for the uninitiated..

maybe i've been to too many glen helen shows.. but (unless there is a train & the cops are directing traffic the wrong way that night) i've never had a problem with traffic gettin out of glen helen of the two dozen or so shows i've gone to there..

also, there is a HUGE diff in getting outta there for a fest, where people are coming & going at diff times, and for a single act when everyone is leaving at the same time..

they've also completed two more access roads to/from the venue, so if you haven't been in the last year or two, it's fairly different now..

No, Santa Anita is in the middle of a neighborhood, they wouldnt buy it. Fairplex is by the hills and the residents are far away from the music so it could go late. give examples of whats happend there. They are doing that Rock epicenter show tomorrow, so a big rock concert has been given the green light. Warped Tour has happend there the last 3 years in a row, thats why Im explaining set up wise, they have the 2 main stages on opposite ends, with smaller stages in between, and sound bleed wasnt a ridiculous issue either cause of the distance. So if you had 2 stages like they seem to be planning you are good, just make sure the middle has tons of things to do. Unless you do 3 stages and then maybe you do like an in the round type thing like the dome at coachella in the middle? So its just some cool experience and you walk by that and everything? Also, I think you could get a liqour license, but it would probably be a beer garden, could be worse yeah?

it was outside one of the exits so at least i could make a b-line to my car. which didn't happen anyway since i went with a friend who drove a stickshift and he was high as a kite. and with that, i'm implying i didn't know how to drive a stickshift and my, ugh, friend didn't let me know he was planning on taking something UNTIL it was already in his system.

i'm an optimist but that night suuuuuuuucked.

New to the forum, and to the CA scene.

I live in Austin, Texas and have heard great things about HHM, despite what happened during the Summer show. Going to be flying out early saturday morning with a few friends and wondering if anyone has any recomendations on where to get down. Waiting on the location for HHM before i reserve accomadations in LA.

Also heard there was good times to be had on Santa Monica blvd during Halloween... maybe something to look into before HHM starts?

Anyone have any suggestions? First time to LA as well.

On Hollywood, Sunset, and Santa Monica Blvd. you are bound to run into fun and freaks on Halloween. Just make sure you have enough time to get to the venue, because parking and lines are usually rough. Once we know the venue, everyone can help you more.

yeah ive been on your blog alot recently.(would like to see more daily post......) haha. but i do like the deadmau5 one too. there different though. this one is more of a hard electro banger which i prefer over deadmau5 more downtempo one. all in all i like them both.

Yea im trying to do a bunch of other things right now so some days I get two or three out and others I dont get any. I have an interview with a good friend of mine and up-in-coming dj/producer VIKING (http://www.myspace.com/pjtheviking) this week so that should be a bonus to throw in with the posts.

Distorted_Jungle
08-23-2009, 07:07 PM
^^^Yeah that is B/S, Basement Jaxx are way better and way bigger in the EDm scene. Justice has one album and has been around only 3 years or so, Basement Jaxx have way more albums and have been around longer and are billed lower, that makes no sense.

Yea but (as painful as this is for me to say) Justice is more popular with the modern hipster raver that is the majority of people that will be attending this. I agree that Jaxx is way better and should be billed higher, but in LA kids will be much more impressed with something that say JUSTICE on top then a group from England thats been around for a while... which is painfully sad but true

i think Underworld is just in a league of their own...

and even though they are older, I still think they bring a larger pull then any of those artists. The people that would go for Crookers would go for Beetroots, Aoki, or Crystal Castles anyway whereas Underworld brings an entirely new group of people. Kinda like cross-marketing....

So apparently there are two head candidates for the new location: the NOS Center or some other venue in San Bernardino (probably the Glen Helen, went to Rock The Bells there last year, not sure it would be best for an event like this though). From someone who claims to be the hard street team, just a rumor for discussion. Can't wait to fly down for this, Basement Jaxx is going to be amazing! Overall, this lineup gets me even more pumped than Hard Summer's.

Being a Chems fan, I have to agree with you on this. :P

Me too. Everyone that thinks that Chemical Brothers had an amazing dj set, are lying to themselves. I am a HUGE fan, but the set was underwhelming. The Basement Jaxx put on an INCREDIBLE live show. I've seen them 4 times, their show is really fun. It is like a 7 person band, with 2 great and entertaining singers. I don't care how great their dj set is, it will not even compare to their live show.

After I heard about what happened to HARD Summer, I never thought I would go to a HARD Event, but seeing Basement Jaxx and Buraka Som Sistema booked, made me want to go. Then Modeselektor got booked as well. I think I will have to make it.

OH yeah, Anyone going to Monster is retarded. It's the worst massive, I used to go in 02-05, but it's got waaay to crowded.

I really hope HHM is not near the sports arena, If it's at the Shrine, parking will be Chaos. I am so glad 2 Massives are on the same night, I hope it will spread out the crowd. Hopefully all the new hipster young kids will go to Monster to see Crystal Castles.

Now, I thought Gary was the one who booked the Ed Banger crew and gangbang groupies all the time, he's to blame, not Justice. Crystal Castles is not the reason ANYONE will be going to MM. I believe the reason to it's success only comes from being...

"The Largest Halloween Dance Music Event in North America"

I hope HARD wants to improve it reputation, and books them as a dj set, and to everyones surprise it's a LIVE set, so everyone will say "Yeah, Hard is awesome, who cares that Hard Summer got busted, they surprised us with a live Basement Jaxx set and it blew me away". haha.. Pharaoh's Lost Kingdom LOL

but seriously.. there prob is not a bigger Glen Helen fan than me.. but for HHM i'm TELLING you.. Pomona Fairplex is EXACTLY what everyone wants..

the venue is one huge level field (grass), it could easily hold the number that was at The Forum.. there is also an optional seating area off to the side for VIP (where the bars could be placed) that seats more than anyone would need..
the surrounding areas could support any number of side stages (pavement) and the property of the entire Fairplex is soo freakin huge, there is no way noise could be an issue.. (i would move the sound booth further back, possibly make it less intrusive than Epicenter had it, but other than that, the venue would be perfect)

besides, i don't think people realize how cold Glen Helen gets at night in October.. nearly an only summer facility, i once saw Aerosmith/KISS there in mid-Oct and i can assure you that there could not possibly be half-naked ravers running around until 4am.. just not happening..

Years ago the fairplex hosted some rave style parties in the big warehouse/hangers they have there. If those halls are available for rent, the fairplex wouldn't be a bad place to host such a party.

No worries. We try to take everything with a grain of salt, but speculation is too much fun sometimes. Although I am going to do my best to stay away from it when Coachella rumor season starts (or always continuing), last year I got too deep.

I kinda like the rumors and predictions cuz you get insight into some places/artists ive never experienced. Take the location debate for example. Ive never been to NOS, Fairplex, or Glen Whatever but i now know that the Glen place sucks so i will make sure to avoid it while the Fairplex is a great venue to see a show at.

Yea, it sucks when you get false hope but still hearing reviews from you all saves me money

i disagree.. i've been hyping the fairplex as much as anyone, but that is ONLY in regards to a new venue for HHM.. as far as the Tool/Epicenter show, it would've been better at Glen Helen or Home Depot (the previous location of the festival under its previous names)

Glen Helen (getting out of the parking lot aside.. which isn't an issue at festivals, just single act shows, and less so in the last year or two since they've added several new side roads) is my 2nd favorite amphitheater in the country (it also has the largest capacity).. i like it even better than the Lorelei in Germany where they have Rockpalast.. the only outdoor amphitheater that is better is the Gorge in washington.. seriously, if a good NON-EDM show comes around Glen Helen, you should go.

I came across a Hard promotion DVD. It has some good production values so i decided to put it up on youtube. It helps to forget about Hard Summer 09 and look forward to HHM. At the end, there is a picture of the flier used to promote Summer 09, so im guessing this was made before it took place, but i got the DVD after the fact. Its about 20 minutes in length.

DJ AM died, like for realz

Cops tell us DJ AM -- also known as Adam Goldstein -- was found dead this morning in New York City.

The NYPD tells us he was found in his apartment at around 7 AM.

Sources tell TMZ DJ AM had not been seen or heard from for a few days. This morning, one of his friends went to check on him, but got no response when after knocking on his apartment door.

We're told the friend called the police, who broke down the door and found DJ AM's body.

Back in September of 2008, DJ AM and Travis Barker survived a plane crash in South Carolina. Four people died in the crash -- which was caused when the airplane aborted takeoff and then ran off the runway. DJ AM and Barker were the only survivors.
