This really isn't that difficult people. Does anyone here wear underwear? If so, drop your various contraband items in your boxer briefs. They'll be nice and warm by the time you make it indoors. I can't imagine the pat down involves heavy groping of your groin. Pretty easy to do. Unless you're one of those guys who still wears boxer shorts.

My Review:

Yea i know its only 3 and it goes till 4 but I just couldnt stand Deadmau5, Daedelus had a crowd of 5 with the lights on, I was starving, and I started feeling awful from dehydration n whatever.

The meetup at 8:45 was kinda a failure. It was just too early and Ill take blame for that bc I wanted to see Danger and listen to music for the rest of the time. For the people only going tonight I hope to meet you soon.

My first and only complaint is that the place is WAY too crowded. As much as I can say they sold too many tickets, I think it has a lot to do with the unbalanced stages. I went through the expo three times and there were never more then 1,000 people inside. Whcih packed the outside, add to that the sitting raver kids, and it was packed.

Venue:
They made it a LOT bigger. The HARD stage has been pushed back almost to Jefferson, making the outdoor area huge. With only one place to buy water / piss outside, it took us 25min to just get there.

Security: Took us 10min to get in. Once you arrive at the proper entrance they blacklight your ticket, check, then u walk through line things, and then u get searched. Wasnt too bad, just empty pockets, basic pat down, no groping. Once done there you walk some more and then get your ticket scanned. They had probably 10 lines for searching and tickets. All of this is done where the front stage was last year....

Audio/Video:
The speakers, staging, and lighting are reminiscent of an Insomniac event. Yes, that good. The bass on the outside stage is unreal

Music:
Frankie Chan: He played a 20min or so portion of the new Cheap Thrills Mixtape. that is already premixed.... and then a few crowd pleasing hits
Danger: Personally I loved this set. He didnt play the one song I wanted to hear tonight (his BoysNoize- Ne Oh Pen remix) but it was a fun, energetic set that was exactly what i expected. His style didnt seem to blend well with the crowd, but i had a great time
A-trak: Started really strong, played everything I wanted to hear, and then crashed and burned halfway through. Its like he got lost in his music. Did about 10 hiphops songs for 10 seconds each, then played some oldies, and then back to electro. Finished his set with his Heads Will Roll remix.... I didnt go to see Don Rimini bc it became evident that if we left our front and center spots we wouldnt get anywhere close upon return
Bloody Beetroots: The best set ive ever heard. Started with WARP 1.9, fucked around for a while, and then went straight old school Beetroots for the last hour. Played Stomp Your Shoes, We Are From Venice, Detroit (Getto Edit....and not the one on the album) Butto Fucks Popeye, and some Proxy.
2ManyDJ's: Fun, diverse, set that the DVJ's definitely added to. The selection was very similar to the Creamfield Essential Mix i posted a while back. The visuals were entertaining and funny. They also brought in additional lights and had lightshow similar to their Soulwax performance.
Deadmau5: WAY TOO CROWDED. With 5 people at Daedelus that left the other 15,000 at him. I left after 20min bc he didnt do anything special and his shit was weak. Can hear it from the Vagabond and Im happy I left. Fuck he just started I Remember. Whatever i want food

This was the first big event id been too not drunk or rolling and I had a great time. Im pretty exhausted btu cant wait for u all to share in the good times tomorrow.

Oh and I got to meet Harvard Bass and A-Trak after their sets when they were watching 2ManyDj's...both nice guys

That was immense.. complete opposite of hard summer. I got there a little bit late, around 9:10 so i missed a bit of danger. what an unresponsive crowd, i was losing my mind during that set.

stayed around the front/centre area for about half of a-trak, then i was getting really thirsty so i decided to head back in and cop some gatorade, when harvard bass i guess it would have been was throwing down something that sounded extremely epic with a really good MC rapping over it. expo stage was indeed deserted the whole night. good place to retreat and take it easy for a few and walk right up to the rail.

i don't think it was too crowded at the HARD stage if you knew what you were doing. EVERYONE seemed to be KO'ed after beetroots so there was a huge exodus and i just rolled right up the right side and got a prime side spot.

2manyDJ's were my surprise 2nd fave of the night. beetroots are fine and they are the heaviest or whatever but it's like.. i've heard all these tracks, a lot of the mixes were the same as coachella, etc. decided to watch Switch for a quick sec during them, the bass shook my hair, the audio in the expo stage is absolutely incredible, beyond even what i felt in the sahara.

but yeah, soulwax just know how to bring it. they're just super fun instead of being all hardcore and serious. plus they played Out of Space, how sweet is that.

deadmau5.. eh, it was alright. some pretty hot tracks but he's a little too trancey for me to get really into. very nice eye candy though and definitely danceable.. well, as dancey as i can get when it's 3am and i'm tired. best part about that show was that i met some really cool locals who know their electro/dubstep. the rickroll at the end though i did enjoy.

very much looking forward to tomorrow night. this makes up for the summer debacle, no question. now... just need underworld after justice tomorrow. a man can dream ;)

the only downside as usual is the crowd. lot of people who once again, are there just to look cool, do not dance, etc. and then the e-tards, but there was less of that this time. except for expo stage, that place looked like a rehab recruitment centre. people have GOT to stop fucking sitting down in groups of 6+ in the middle of a crowded fucking floor during the middle of a show so they can give eachother light shows, i almost tripped and fell so many times because i was caught by one of those and then people were trying to pass by me to get to the back.

but i guess that is just sort of what you get here in LA.. lot of people who are just unappreciative of the plethora of good live music they get in their town every weekend and act like d-bags at the shows. still was cool people though and nobody really stopped me from having a good time.

if you guys see a 6'1'' white kid in a black RL polo and some blue jeans it's probably me.. nobody else was really rocking that look that i was able to see, that's for sure

My notes:

First and foremost i think soulwax stole the fucking show. The were the most confident, professional DJ's spinning up there. Everyone from A-Track to Deadmau5 seem to lose their footing at one point or another. But they were like a dream come true for me. My favorite moment was when they mixed Slayer into Dolly fucking Parton.. :) They wore tuxedos and had a great sense of humor about themselves. Something the electro genre sorely needs.

Getting in and out of there was pretty easy. But kids these days... It seems like they will wear the sluttiest 'costumes' possible, but then just sit shyly in a corner doing drugs like it was some bad prom. I danced and danced and kept going into a big loop from inside to outside.. if I didn't feel a track I moved on, so I kinda saw every DJ.

I really liked Switch (but I usually always do), Danger and Harvard Bass.

It seems to me after a DJ 'makes' it they lose that hunger in their sound that really makes them pop. Seeing Justice before they ever sold a record and then seeing them at coachella last tiime is what I'm talking about. The mix just doesn't feel fresh anymore.. I feel like Bloody and Deadmau5 are in that category for me now. They just aren't hungry for it anymore and it shows in their work..

But overall, I had a great time, worth the price and danced for hours on end. Good to see other 25 to 35 year olds there having a good time too... all 10 of us ;)

Excellent security last night. Seems like Hard got a company other than CSC events, and the vibe was vastly different to that of Hard Summer.

I missed the meetup and couldnt find you guys after the fact. Although, I did meet Mattpatch and chatted it up for a bit. I was so bummed, because this crowd was pretty weaksauce. Not much dancing going on up front. Eventually i met some people who go to Coachella (not on the board), and they were rocking and grooving like you should at an event like this. I mostly stayed to the left of the sound booth because this was closest you could get while still maintaining your dance space. Me and my friends will probably be in the same spot tonight if its gets too packed up front and any of you want to get down with like-minded people.

Anyways, I caught the last 15 minutes or so of Danger and he was throwing down some good stuff. Unresponsive crowd.

A-Track was just okay. He has some good songs early on, but screwed around too much with most of them. The hip-hop montage was nice for a change, but it dragged on too long. Then he played the longest version of Robot Rock ever, all the while ruining it with cutting and looping. He started out good, but left me with a bad taste.

Beetroots tore shit up. The new mix of Warp 1.9 is excellent, especially without Aoki up there. Definitely got the crowd going more than any other act.

2manydjs was hands down the best of the night. I went nuts when i saw the Radio Soulwax logo on the screen for the first bit of the show as they were "tuning" the radio. Excellent song selection, funny visuals, and perfect mixing. As a side note, something i learned about myself...when rolling, you suddenly remember every lyric to every song ever made. Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 had me singing my lungs out. Such good fun.

Deadmau5 was pretty average. He played some hard hitters early on, then dwindled into boring stuff before bringing it home with The Reward is Cheese.

All in all, a great night and i hope to see you all tonight for meetup 2.0.

the only downside as usual is the crowd. lot of people who once again, are there just to look cool, do not dance, etc. and then the e-tards, lot of people who are just unappreciative of the plethora of good live music they get in their town every weekend and act like d-bags at the shows.

First and foremost i think soulwax stole the fucking show.
It seems to me after a DJ 'makes' it they lose that hunger in their sound that really makes them pop. Seeing Justice before they ever sold a record and then seeing them at coachella last tiime is what I'm talking about. The mix just doesn't feel fresh anymore.. I feel like Bloody and Deadmau5 are in that category for me now. They just aren't hungry for it anymore and it shows in their work..

last night was incredible... no problems getting in, every artist i saw was on point, impressive production/sound quality, i had a pretty easy time finding my friends despite the fact i didn't have a phone, the whole construction thing going on next door combined with the increased size of the outdoor stage gave off this crazy industrial vibe, and (no surprise) lots of weird people =]

the only thing that really bothered me was the no bag/fanny pack whatsoever thing they decided to pull at the last minute, but luckily they weren't too intense on the searches so a little elbow grease would probably make it easy to sneak anything in

Woww...Friday night was amazing. I have to say, Bloody Beetroots stole the show...every drop was so ridiculous. Also very impressed with 2manydjs, their dvdj set was way more fun than what the live footage shows.

Just got home. How was Basement Jaxx? I have no idea.

I was able to take an earlier flight back to LA from SF. I got home around 2, so my boyfriend, my friend Patrick, Doug (Castanets) and I decided to do a bit of a late afternoon pub crawl before getting ready for HHM.

We were all so excited about everyone's first rave and first HARD event, first B. Jaxx experience. We even met this fun group of girls dressed up as Obama and Health Care Townhall protesters. They were carrying these rave related fake protest signs with slogans like "Keep Your Gov't Out of My Rave" and "Obama Death Panel (DJ Set)" so I asked them where they were headed tonight and, yes, they were headed to HHM. One of them even admitted to posting on here sometimes, but I forget her sn. But, if you're reading this, hi ladies and thanks for making the early part of our evening so much fun!

Patrick drove Doug back to his place so that they could get into costume and then meet back at my apartment for the HHM carpool. My bf and I walked the half mile back to my apartment. We were noisily chatting about which acts we were most excited to see and so engrossed in our conversation that we weren't really paying enough attention to our surroundings. As we were rounding a quiet corner less than a quarter mile from my apartment, we were accosted but 3 well armed unsavory young men. We were ordered to lie down on the pavement face down, guns to the back of both our heads. They emptied our pockets and took my boyfriend's messenger bag. They made off with both our wallets (credit cards, social security cards, his green card, ids, $250 in cash between us) and the contents of my bf's bag. Which included all of our HHM tickets. For good measure, i got a kick in the face which bruised me up a bit, but nothing serious, but one of those bastards decided to clock the back of my bf's head with the gun which almost knocked him out and left him bleeding slightly. They told us to count to 50 before getting up and then ran around the corner. I heard them getting into their car and tearing off. It wasn't a bashing, if that's what you're thinking. They didn't call us fags or anything. We didn't go to any gay bars, we weren't in costume, we weren't holding hands or showing any PDA. I'm pretty confident it was just a mugging.

Physically, I'm fine. Just some light bruising. My bf suffered a concussion and has some stitches in the back of his head. He's being kept overnight for observation, but will probably be released first thing in the morning.

If that wasn't bad enough, they got away not just with my ticket and my bf's, but the tickets for Patrick, Doug (who was out here from NY!) and our friends Claire and Serena. I feel so guilty about ruining their Halloween as well.

I'm still seething with anger here and, frankly, still quite shaken from having a gun to my head. Luckily, since I've just moved up here none of my ID's have my new address, so if this was gang related in anyway, these guys don't know where I live. One bright note, I suppose, is that the LAPD were very responsive and a very nice detective has been in touch with me throughout the night. God I hope they catch those fuckers.

basement jaxx played all sorts of everything and I quite enjoyed it.

justice, while still making use of a few of their old tricks, were actually very enjoyable as well. they were using CDJs, and not ableton (like last year), but they learned how to use those things, better skills in my opinion.

2manyDJs started off with the same stuff but overall played alot of stuff they didn't play friday night. still, I liked friday's performance more, but had a damn good time saturday too.

I didn't see any of deadmau5 saturday. I wonder how he went.

Modeselektor was awesome also. They cut them off at the end, and one of them turned their monitor speakers to face the audience before being completely shut down.

Osawa was awesome, Jaxx dropped some awesome dubstep which i was wanting on friday, crookers lit the place up, justice was FUCKING good. anyone who didn't go made a big mistake. 2manyDJ's, 2nd show was still awesome even though i saw them last night. I saved a guy in the front from a prick security guard, he stood on the railing and was dancing and throwing his hands up to the crowd and then the security guy wanted to take him out back somewhere and maybe kick him out or something who knows, but he broke loose of him and then i pulled the guy's leg out of the security guard's hand when he jumped back over the railing. i almost got kicked out over that. almost.

I was able to take an earlier flight back to LA from SF. I got home around 2, so my boyfriend, my friend Patrick, Doug (Castanets) and I decided to do a bit of a late afternoon pub crawl before getting ready for HHM.

We were all so excited about everyone's first rave and first HARD event, first B. Jaxx experience. We even met this fun group of girls dressed up as Obama and Health Care Townhall protesters. They were carrying these rave related fake protest signs with slogans like "Keep Your Gov't Out of My Rave" and "Obama Death Panel (DJ Set)" so I asked them where they were headed tonight and, yes, they were headed to HHM. One of them even admitted to posting on here sometimes, but I forget her sn. But, if you're reading this, hi ladies and thanks for making the early part of our evening so much fun!

Patrick drove Doug back to his place so that they could get into costume and then meet back at my apartment for the HHM carpool. My bf and I walked the half mile back to my apartment. We were noisily chatting about which acts we were most excited to see and so engrossed in our conversation that we weren't really paying enough attention to our surroundings. As we were rounding a quiet corner less than a quarter mile from my apartment, we were accosted but 3 well armed unsavory young men. We were ordered to lie down on the pavement face down, guns to the back of both our heads. They emptied our pockets and took my boyfriend's messenger bag. They made off with both our wallets (credit cards, social security cards, his green card, ids, $250 in cash between us) and the contents of my bf's bag. Which included all of our HHM tickets. For good measure, i got a kick in the face which bruised me up a bit, but nothing serious, but one of those bastards decided to clock the back of my bf's head with the gun which almost knocked him out and left him bleeding slightly. They told us to count to 50 before getting up and then ran around the corner. I heard them getting into their car and tearing off. It wasn't a bashing, if that's what you're thinking. It's too bad some seriously shady shit happened to a few of the board members on both nights of HHM. I'm glad you weren't horribly injured, JF.

My time at HHM on Friday was awesome. Even though I showed up at right at 8, when the crowd was mostly young candy kids already tripping balls, the vibe was already much better than the disaster that was Hard Summer. Franki Chan dressed as Captain America was funny, and he laid down some good tracks. Danger was great, I had never heard any of his stuff before and was very impressed...hope to see him in the Sahara this year. I thought A-trak's set was solid, and while he did go on for a bit long with the hip-hop spinning, it was sort of refreshing to have a break from constant techno beats. And I'm glad he ended with the YYY remix...it was spooky! His set was a great transition, because the P-tots seemed to move to the back to create their epuddles and the Beetroots fans moved in. I knew the Beetroots had a huge following, but I had no idea they would be the absolute crowd favorite. Almost everyone I met around me came specifically for that set....their sound is a bit heavy for me at times, but they really threw it down. Still, 2ManyDJ's was by far my absolute favorite of the night. Class is right, those tuxedos were sick...I freaked the fuck out when they played Dolly Parton. Their set was simply stunning, great to dance to, and fun to watch. Deadmau5 was definitely way too hyped up, his set was decent at best. I agree that his album work is better than a live show. There were a bunch of mau5heads early on in the night, and then I saw a few of them destroyed on the floor before he ever came on...which I thought was strange. I left his set a bit early but heard some of the 'classics' he dropped at the end while I was in the parking lot bumming about my car being broken into.

Overall, HARD has definitely redeemed itself. Security and will call ran smoothly, the venue was packed but I never felt claustrophobic, and obviously the venue was much more conducive to this type of event.

Some of the best moments of my night in the crowd included a girl giving me and my boyfriend a cup of ice (SCORE!), and a candy-kid telling us we were "Adorable!" because I think she assumed we were just completely sober. I thought the crowd was mostly great, despite the usual shenanigans that come with these events. Since I missed the meet-up, I hope I'll get to party with all of you at something epic someday soon.

If I may add my 2 cents. Good party last night. The alcohol area was an embarrassment. HARD has organized this properly in the past, but they scored a massive fail this year. Last year's HARD Haunted had a sizeable 21+ area with a separate ID check at the door. HARD 13 had multiple bars. This year, 45 min+ line to get inside the booze "lounge" and then another 15+ mins to get a drink. It's like they decided "Everyone is eating pills/underage, fuck anyone that wants to have a cocktail." If your plan for the evening is to roll/fry/etc, that's cool, I've had plenty of those evenings. But if you wanted a drink you had to miss an entire set. That is complete garbage.

That said, Basement Jaxx were amazing. Any worries about their DJ set being underwhelming were destroyed. Wish I didn't have to spend an hour in line during Justice, they sounded like they were throwing it down. Fuck.

I will probably be writing organizers, who knows if I will get any feedback. From the looks of things around here, no one on this board had their evening affected by this.

Not a complete disappointment at all, but it definitely could have been better. I think i heard them play Positif, WTF? I want Modeselektor songs. Some of the songs i couldnt recognize so maybe new material? They did go through most of the crowd favorites though (Kill Bill Vol.4, Sucker Pin, Black Block, Hyper Hyper) so it made up for the lack in the number of songs played. Hearing Hasir and Dark Side of the Sun would have made it much more memorable though.
