I think it's probably Wolf Parade's year, but I don't think it's their best release.

Much as I loved As Seen Through Windows on release, I listen to Recording a Tape.... a lot more. Also, I wish Bell Orchestre would get somebody else to do the damn names.

If there's any justice left in the world, Begone Dull Care will take home the prize.

Metric and K'naan without a doubt.

Metric don't deserve to make the shortlist any more than Wolf Parade deserved the cut.

Not overly impressed.

Chat VanGaalen? WTF. That Malajube record is fucking awful, too.

W/e... I'm pulling for Fucked Up now.

Fucked Up counts even though it was released in '08?

Fucked Up was late 08 release. If you have noticed, 2009 isn't over yet. This is the polaris prize for all albums released since the last polaris prize was anounced through now. So 2008 and 2009 albums will be included.

I also really hope Fucked Up wins.

Oh, ok, so it's not by year but by time between awards. Got it.

Granted, the Polaris Prize often goes to a not so obvious choice but it will be hard to justify not giving it to Aracade Fire, a most obvious choice.
How could they not?

Indeed. Would feel like an awful waste though, same for Neil Young. One thing that sets Polaris apart is that it picks up on people like Colin Stetson or Little Scream, who, aside from deserving it as much or more than some of the other big hitters, wouldn't really come in for other awards, and would really benefit from the prize. Those people rarely win, but at the same time, the acknowledgement is nice.

It's a weird grab bag of stuff that puts Stars up against Tim Hecker. That's kind of what I like about Polaris, but it's kind of what's shit about it too.

Ron Sexsmith, Braids or Arcade Fire is who I think would win it.
