My guess is that the main poster will be reformatted soon, once a Saturday tent feature is added.

Friday: Faithless "In the Dance Tent"

Saturday: Who will it be???

Rumors/predictions: Underworld, Basement Jaxx, Justin Timberlake, Moby...What do you think???

Sunday: Happy Mondays "In the Dance Tent"

Agree, disagree?

I hope we dont experience another Madonna thing...although JT won't be too horrible.

This is intended to get you thinking about the possibilities. Go crazy with it. Who do you want (Other than Daft Punk...it won't happen...2 minutes later someone will post Daft Punk just because they can and they want to be annoying.)

One act will be added. I hope it's huge. Not like anything will beat Daft Punk, but I have no doubt it will be good.

JT-Money will be in England, according to his tour itinerary.

Outside of Underworld, the others just strike me as vastly improbable. I'd call Underworld improbable too, but I figure there must be a reason there's about ten times more buzz about them as a possible add than any other artist.

I'd love to see them come, and I think it's safe to say that pretty much everyone else on the boards would too. That said, you can't be disappointed with the lineup as it stands now...

Outside of Underworld, the others just strike me as vastly improbable. I'd call Underworld improbable too, but I figure there must be a reason there's about ten times more buzz about them as a possible add than any other artist.

Reasons for the Underworld buzz:

- "RiverRun Project" online releases throughout 2005-06
- Recent Billboard interview about "exotic location" performances (I paraphrase) in 2007-08
- Breaking & Entering soundtrack released late '06
- Sunshine soundtrack to be released around film's March '07 premiere
- New single slated for spring/summer '07
- New album slated for summer/fall '07
- The whole "festival season" disappearing-text curiosity from their website at the start of February '07

IMO, currently no other act on any Coachella fan's Sahara-tent wish list is anywhere near as busy or in the public eye. I wouldn't be surprised if they're the Saturday pick.

Why is it that no one can seem to understand there WILL NOT be a Sahara headliner on Sat? They are having "the no 1 dj in the world" (not my opinion, "fact") close the main stage. Do you honestly think they would spend even more money to bring in another act to compete against him at the same time? The show is sold out..... WHY WHY WHY WHY would they put out more money when they can't sell more tickets? My god, some people just don't get it...

I'd love to see Underworld or Fatboy Slim (who rocked the tent a few years ago), but I'm with SupaCrazeeBoy... I'd be surprised if they add anyone else (unless it's just to replace someone who cancels). I only remember one or two surprise guests, and they were never closers.

My guess for the Sat. night Sahara closer: LCD Soundsystem (okay... I'm braced for the pain... bring it on)

My vote goes for Underworld...but a name I haven't seen put out there very often is John Askew. He would blow Tiesto out of the water. Need proof? Here's the link to his essential mix for BBC Radio 1 he did last week

Oh, how I wish you were right, but unfortunately, you are not.... The only reason Coachella is continuing on is b/c GV agreed to make this a 3 day festy and they added stagecoach, as quoted here...

http://billboard.com/bbcom/news/arti..._id=1003546030

While it may be a religious experience for most of us, GV is still a business, and they still have to make money, welcome the world of the free market...

I'm assuming by "suprise guests" you mean, late additions. If i'm right about this assumption, than what was DAFT PUNK?? they were added a few weeks after the line-up was announced and closed out the tent on Saturday. So, why not UNDERWORLD or anyone else?

Once again, I ask of you this "theory" that they will add someone to Sahara because Tiesto is on the mainstage...... WHY DO YOU THINK THAT? Explain some sort of rational thinking as to why GV would put up two dance music headliners against each other to an already sold out event?

Nobody said it would be a conventional dance tent act either what if it was someone like the pet shop boys or something.6 sahara acts friday, 6 sahara acts sunday, 5 sahara acts Saturday at least by my count and last year they had 8 sahara acts each day and in 05 8 and 9 sahara acts. And consider this what if Goldenvoice had a deal in place or were close to having a deal in place with an artist. Do you think they'd pull the deal? Coachella and GV have a reputation to uphold.

plastickman
02-17-2007, 07:29 PM
Reputation and financial responsibilty are two different things. The only day they might add a big name to at this point would be Friday if ticket sales do not sell out in a reasonable timeframe. You'll note on ebay people are trying to ofload quite a few Friday tickets to no avail. They have no reason to add anything more for Saturday or Sunday.

They add more to sell it out....only......stop with the pipedreams.

why why WHY do people keep saying this?

Daft Punk were added TWO DAYS after the initial lineup was announced. and if I remember correctly the official poster hadn't even been put online yet. they BARELY qualify as a late addtion.

They have no reason to add anything more for Saturday or Sunday.

They add more to sell it out....only......stop with the pipedreams.

They also have to keep current ticket holders happy so we come back next year. This isn't a one-off event.

and I'm sure adding an artist doesn't happen overnight. If they were working on adding an artist it has probably been in the works since before they sold out of 3 day passes.

having said that, I don't think they will add any bands this year.

MrAmeche
02-18-2007, 08:47 AM
I don't think they will add any bands this year.
They always add acts, sellout or not. In 2004 they added MF Doom and Kool Keith to the Radiohead day, even though it had sold out long before. They do it to round out the schedule, to diversify the lineup and to make their customers happy. It's not simply about selling the most tickets possible - mostly maybe, but not entirely.

!!! is closing Sahara on Saturday.
I actually buy this, or something like it. It seems like there are so many dancey live acts (ie non-DJ) in Saturday's lineup - Rapture, LCD, !!!, Hot Chip, MSTRKRFT - I could see 2 or 3 of them in a row closing out the Sahara. It would be a lot different than past years, but this is the first three-day Coachella so I expect certain things will be a lot different this time. Those bands would keep the "dance" spirit of the tent alive, even if they weren't "EDM" in the usual Sahara sense ...

Not necessarily to compete with Tiesto. Imagine if somebody like Underworld plays from 9:30-11pm in the dance tent (big main-stage alternative), then everyone moves out to the main stage to party for the rest of the night. Isn't that how things went down in 2002?

I am just curious.....with all the brilliant musicians of varying genres who are so far, not playing Coachella......how would it NOT be horrible if Justin Timberlake were added??

aren't there about 1,000,000 other artists that should be considered way before someone like him??

If you like Justin Timberlake, thats fine, I don't hate him, but anyone that you can see headline any number of KIIS FM shows or TRL gigs, doesn't seem to be an ideal fit for Coachella........
