Might as well start it up. The usual suspects are favorites yet again, the BCS is still a joke, etc.

My U dub huskies just landed a really big fish! Nick Montana, son of NFL legend Joe Montana. And all reports indicate that this kid isn't just a name, he can play. That's a great start for Sarkisian. Does everyone affiliated with USC just ooze recruiting savvy or what?

Taking bets now - my Florida Gators to win it all for the 3rd time in 4 years. 3-1 odds. I see the flame coming from a mile away but come on, it's the Gators FTW. GO GATORS

I can't wait for the BCS dinosaurs to die out. Then we will have a true national champion.

Much respect to Florida though. They were/are a legitimate champ.

Yeah I would kill a bum for a BCS playoff. That would be the most exiting 2/3 weeks of the year for me. Think of all the crazy games!

Last year assuming an 8 team playoff:

1 Oklahoma vs. 8 Penn State
2 Florida vs. 7 Texas Tech
3 Texas vs. 6 Utah
4 Alabama vs. 4 USC

Good god!

The Utes lost A LOT of players on both sides of the ball this year. Good recruiting is what makes a team standout, and I am confidant in Whittinghams ability.

Fresno State is getting a new QB this year, thank god because Pat Hill would have stuck with Brandstater for another 10 years if he could. I'm thinking Derek Carr will win the competition (David's little brother) and that gives me hope. We have a pretty crappy schedule this year (at Wisconsin, at Cincinatti and at Illinois to end the season) but we get Boise at home. Which is okay, but I'm glad this will be our last 5 games at home and 7 away for the forseeable future. What a treat I'll have with my tickets this year too, our big OOC opponent at home is......UC Davis. Bleh, I hope we win a bowl game this year. I think next year will be a little better for us.

and I was reading about Montana's kid this morning, I'm jealous. Got me thinking about Jerry Rice's son, who we were recruiting pretty hard for awhile. Not sure if Jerry Rice Jr. ended up signing with anyone, maybe he should walk on to UDub.

Yeah it would. If Rice Jr. can play that is. But He'll be fine in College if he has half of his father's work ethic.

On a humorous note, I was in the campus book store the other day and we're selling t-shirts that say, "Bark for Sark!" Ha. If nothing else it's an improvement over the rampant--but unofficial--"Why Willingham?" shirts :/

That's right, we have another Dogs fan on here.

I'm sure that everyone will want Derek Carr to win the competition (I do, as well), but I suspect that Ryan Colburn might start off the year.

I'm not as doom and gloom about the season, but I'm a total homer to start each year. I can't imagine that we'll suck that bad. We should be able to get rushing yardage with ease. And the defense has to be somewhat better.

Nick Montana didn't do much more than I would have for Oaks Christian. OC is in a weak division and is always afraid to schedule tough out of conference games.

He's not getting kicked off the team but I can see a suspension from anywhere from 2 games to half the season. If the backup wins games for the ducks he's out of here. If the backup isn't he has his starting position back.

I agree, Tom. From a coaching standpoint you've got to quickly and authoritatively show the rest of your team, your boosters, your fans and potential recruits that the behavior Blount demonstrated doesn't fly in your program, regardless of who you are. A team like Oregon should have a stable of able backups anyway.

Historically Mike Bellotti has been pretty good at recruiting good running backs. And Oregon is one of the bigger, richer programs in the country. I'm sure they've got plenty of help.

Blount had 8 carries for -5 yards in that game (no wonder he was vexed). Career he's averaging 6.8 yards a carry, is a Senior and obviously not a team leader. The commentators mentioned that hes had behavior issues in the past.

The other guy they brought in for a few carries, James, did well in his limited touches and can catch the ball out of the backfield. But is a freshman. He's a smaller speedier type to Blount's bruiser style.

IDK, screw Oregon either way.

Pretty much.

Back to college football discussion.
EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon has suspended running back LeGarrette Blount for the remainder of the season for punching Boise State linebacker Byron Hout after Thursday night's loss.

Immediately following Boise's 19-8 victory, an ESPN replay of the incident showed Hout taunting Blount as the teams converged onto the field. As a Broncos assistant coach moved to separate Hout from Blount, the Oregon senior threw a right cross that connected with Hout's right jaw. Hout went down and popped right back up.

"Under no circumstance is fighting acceptable," the NCAA said in a statement Friday. "If it occurs before or during a game, the officials enforce the rules. If it occurs after a game, institutions and conferences decide how to address the situation. We trust our members to handle these situations appropriately. Sportsmanship is everyone's responsibility, including student-athletes, coaches, officials, institutions and fans.

In a statement prior to Blount's suspension, Oregon president Richard Lariviere calling the player's behavior "reprehensible."

"We do not and will not tolerate the actions that were taken by our player. Oregon's loyal fans expect and deserve better," Lariviere said. "The University of Oregon Athletics Department is reviewing the situation and will take appropriate action, reflecting the seriousness of the player's behavior."

Boise State spokesman Max Corbet told The Associated Press in an e-mail Friday that head coach Chris Petersen will not suspend Hout. Instead, Petersen will spend time with Hout this week to help him learn from what happened.

Totally agree! This kid has to be retarded to lose his cool in his senior year. I honestly think if he just left the field after the punch the penalty wouldnt have been as steep. Once he decided to try to go into the stands that was it. Oregon had to suspend him for the year.

i don't really have A favorite college team. i'm all about utah, bsu and byu. those are the 3 leading arguments for changing the college post season (i'd almost throw tcu in there too, but i don't have any connections to that school so i could care less). if i had to choose from the 3, for this season at least, i'd pick byu. if they go undefeated, there's absolutely no way you can hold them out of the national title game. none. i'd like anybody to make an argument otherwise...

with that being said, they'll probably lose today haha

Jeff, my friend, I'll take this. Greg Paulus used up his eligibility as a basketball player/flopper at Dook. He didn't jump ship. Though, there are Dookies who ARE jumping ship (see: Elliot Williams). So all is right with the world.

BYU was the favorite to bust the BCS at the beginning of last season too and look what happened. I hope they lose today just so I don't have to hear about them all season. They aren't going to a BCS bowl this year and if they beat Oklahoma today they will eventually lose to Utah. God I fucking hate BYU. Fuck them and their fans.

biggfoot17

I saw a guy lift a chair after being bum rushed by Blount. BFD. What was Blount doing going after fans in the first place? As for the fan throwing a slap (if you call that a punch, I challenge you to a fight), that was uncalled for. The guy knew that even if something happened to him, there were way more people on his back than Blount.

I seriously doubt the BSU player dropped the N bomb, but who knows. Blount seems like the type of guy who would throw a punch at you cause you looked at him too long.

On what platform was justice served? Blount performed a criminal act on live television and the worst he got is a season suspension. He can still practice with the team. He still has his scholarship. The only reason he wasn't arrested is because he was wearing that jersey. If Johnny Fratguy did that at some party, he'd be in jail, lose any scholarship, and if it made the local news, would probably be kicked out of the university.

U-dub is back. And by back I mean we're competitive again. Jake Locker is a stud. So long as he's on the field we've got a shot. If he had some receivers who could hold onto the ball we'd be in business. But the important thing here is Sark has the kids believing in themselves again.

Not so OK, eh? It certainly makes the Red River Shootout a little less exciting. But losing this early to a ranked team hardly thwarts the sooner's title hopes if they right the ship until Bradford gets healthy, whenever that is.

Ummm, I konw the rivalry well. I was born like 15 minutes away from BYU haha. Let them gloat. That's is the biggest game they've played in decades. This is the only division of any sport (that quickly comes to mind) where the difficulty of your opponents can carry more weight than your record (ie. going undefeated, but only played 2 ranked teams vs losing one, but playing 4 or 5 ranked teams). Although you'll have to put up with more shit, BYU wins vs Florida State and TCU would just make a Utah win, AT BYU mind you, so much better. I mean, think of all the shit you could talk then? usc will not be in the national championship game. beating a wildly overrated ohio st doesn't prove a thing

I'm a die-hard Trojans fan (not as of late, btw, I was one of the only people at my high school wearing cardinal and gold, a senior the 7th of the 8 straight years that UCLA beat USC) but I'm the first to admit that they've got a LOT of growing up to do.

Until that last drive the entire 2nd half just felt like it was ticking away towards a OSU victory. Our offensive line was non-existent. McKnight was getting stuffed every time. And I mean, we won this game with virtually no help from Damian Williams! (aside from calling for fair catch when receiving OSU punts).

I have high hopes for the Trojans but they're extremely young, possibly the youngest overall roster I can ever remember, on both sides of the ball. And every year in the post-Leinart era we have started out like this, but then it's only a matter of time before we just have an off night and lose to a shitty Pac-10 team. And Cal is much better this year than they have been in the past, that's the game I'm worried most about.

If by some you mean one, then yes, there are some pac-10 teams still ranked. The only other team than Cal that would have been a real challenge for usc was Oregon. With their #1 running back punching his way out of the season, they won't see the top 25 again. The rest of the pac-10 is mediocre at best

Like I said, ohio st is overrated and has been for years. Their last bowl win was against a weak ass notre dame team back in 05. Winning a national title 9 years ago and being a part of a conference that hasn't been dominant since the 90's doesn't give you a free pass to the top 10 for a decade

I'm very anti big 10, but that's besides the point. You say Florida and Texas are all that stands in the way of usc making it the championship game? You don't think that if 'bama and BYU, who have a stronger schedule than usc, run the table, they won't end up in the championship game? Those computers tend to side with teams who have stronger schedules. 'bama running through the SEC and BYU beating the sooners, FSU, TCU and Utah easily puts both of them ahead of usc. The trojans need their pac-10 buddies to pick it up if they want to get to the title game.

Right now, BYU needs their Ute buddies to pull their heads out of their asses too for that matter haha

There are a ton of "what if" scenarios during the college season. There's a good possibility that none of these teams we're talking about will even be in the championship game. My whole argument from the beginning was to not look too deeply into this win. There's a great chance that the trojans will drop one, late in the season, to a lesser pac-10 school and will ruin any hopes for a national title. It shouldn't be anything new for trojan fans

Jake Locker, not bummed that Cushing, Matthews and Maualuga are gone.

boarderwoozel3
09-14-2009, 08:26 PM
Furthermore, the last time USC came up here they escaped 27-24. And that was Locker's fifth collegiate game. He's come a long way as a passer. And now we've got their offensive coordinator. That can't hurt, insider info. Finally, SC is already in class while UW starts at the end of the month. Preparation advantage: huskies..........

jesus christ you people are retarded...not you jeff, since i actually respect washington, but they aren't beating sc.

chris shut the fuck up already dude...you really don't know a damn thing about sports besides how to wave a foam finger. next thing i'm gonna have to hear about the pathetic bearcats playing so great they'll make the meineke car care bowl.

This is stupid, Boise was in control and got REALLY lazy. I dont know how they could give up this much rushing yardage when they have been talking about how good their defense is and it can win them games. Also they got very rattled with those 3 and outs. And also giving up such few points last season was a big stat. they better not lose, itll just take out another team in the whole ''a non major conference team cant go to the national championship'' argument.

boarderwoozel3
09-18-2009, 07:19 PM
In all fairness, Fresno State and Pat Hill are no slouches.

biggfoot17
09-18-2009, 07:24 PM
Seriously. After the way they played in Wisconsin last week (still an overrated team in an overrated conference, but it gives FSU cred on a national level), this is a dangerous team. BSU won't lose, but supre's right, they're giving up a lot to a team that a #10 shouldn't really have that much of an issue with. Where have the cornerbacks gone?

TomAz
09-18-2009, 07:30 PM

in other words, they suck, and my guys lost to them, but it was in double OT, so my guys are good.

In all fairness, Fresno State and Pat Hill are no slouches.

No they are not, hill has had the ''anytime any place'' mentality with some of his teams because of the talent he recruits. I mean they looked done and all it took was a couple of drives and great reads by his running back who is a freakign beast to get em back in the game. That kid Andrews was a QB in high school and led the nation in rushing at one point? QUE???

Notre Dame is overrated...again.

biggfoot17
09-18-2009, 07:41 PM
Where do you get "my guys" from? I said they were overrated, not that they sucked. Can't find your reading glasses tonight?

BSU needs all the help they can get to make an undefeated season in the WAC look more impressive. When a team from their conference plays well, on the raod, against a team who plays in a conference with a automatic BCS bid, it helps BSU's argument that it belongs on the national stage.

So why was USC's win at OSU not that big of deal? Cause that's a team USC should beat, just like they should beat everybody else in the PAC 10

As one of the only 2-3 Fresno fans on the board, I can say that this is their most talented offense since 2001 when they were briefly ranked 6th in the nation.

Unfortunately, they're more mistake prone than that yea.r

michigan's a tough team that plays in a tough stadium. plus i don't think there's 25 teams that are better than them. plus i hate little schools that think they can beat big boys, let alone manage in a real conference. aaaaand jimmy clausen (sp?) is a pretty good qb, god only knows what they'd do to your wild kitties =)

I agree since they're playing Eastern Michigan. However, if Notre Dame finishes in the top 25 it's because they don't play in a real conference.

i can't stand notre dame, but they do play the same amount of "decent" teams as a top conference. clausen and his two wr's (bell? and tate) are decent and i see them backing up their ranking at the end of the year. i am tired of seeing them in bcs bowls though.

Gribbz
09-18-2009, 10:49 PM
You're right about them playing decent/good teams. IE USC. They just don't ever beat them.

When was the last time ND beat USC anyway? I know they came close a few years ago when Quinn/Leinart were playing.

BlueDevil50
09-18-2009, 11:32 PM
compared to the last two seasons and being rich rodriguez's second season, i think it's a might strong 3-0. i am a little bias towards michigan because my pop's is a hardcore fan but i think forcier is a solid playmaker, not a great qb, but a good-great playmaker that could carry them to a better than expected finish.
