View Full Version : Rammstein announces dates. Coachella 2010?

Cookieman908

A part of me thinks they're too heavy for Coachella. But another part of me thinks they do fit a little (See: NIN, Bauhaus, VNV Nation, Throbbing Gristle - all have played Coachella).

After a long 4 year absence from touring, they've just announced Fall European dates. A Coachella date would be a nice succession following these dates AND they've promised to tour the U.S. this time around (haven't done so since 2001).

A headlining spot at the Outdoor Theatre perhaps? I'm down for some Rammstein...

Of course they don't take themselves seriously!

I actually saw them as an opening act once before most people in the US had heard of them. (I had heard them once on Space Ghost.) Anyway, had no idea what to expect- they pretty much did their whole European stadium show in this little theatre. One of the best shows I have ever seen, though I'm sure the element of surprise helped.

Mojave might be tough...I was worried in that theatre about fire danger. I think they'd have to go outdoor.

But yeah...will never happen, and this discussion happens every 6 months or so.

Anyone down for some "Pussy"? I'll be getting mine on September 22. I would LOVE (pray?) for these guys to kickstart their North American tour at Coachella.

Rammstein have one thing on their minds.

The German industrial band will release their new single, "Pussy," on Sept. 22 before Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da (Love Is For Everyone in English), their upcoming sixth studio album, comes out Oct. 20.

"Pussy" is the first track in four years from singer Till Lindemann, guitarists/singers Richard Z. Kruspe and Paul H. Landers, bassist Oliver Riedel, keyboardist Christian "Flake" Lorenz and drummer Christoph "Doom" Schneider. A video for the track, which will be directed by former Bathory drummer Jonas Akerlund (Madonna, Blink-182), will be shot shortly.

Here's how a press release describes "Pussy":

"Carried by a gigantic wave of testosterone, Rammstein unsheathes its sword and presents what makes man an animal. So start your engines. With pedal to the metal on the Autobahn of German cliches, where homage is paid to the hand-to-hand battle between sexes with words like Bratwurst, Blitzkrieg, and Mercedes-Benz... to destinations abroad, past Heidi with her burgers and away from the German Frauleinwunder."

Wow.

Rammstein did pre-production for Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da at Germany's Castle Beesenstedt and recorded most of the album at Sonoma Mountain Studio Estate in North Carolina. The disc was mixed by Jacob Hellner (Clawfinger) in Stockholm, Sweden.

Rammstein will tour in support of Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da throughout November, December and February and you can see them here:

Why does this keep coming back?

WHAT North American tour. They haven't been here in 8 years...not because they are "banned", but because people just don't GET them here. Their show is huge and expensive . It's just not worth it.

Things that Americans generally don't like...irony...metal bands that weren't around in the 70's or 80's...industrial bands...homoeroticism...foreign languages...bands they have incorrectly labeled as "1 hit wonders" due to their own ignorance.

Things that Americans generally do like...fire...explosions...lasers

It just doesn't balance out. They will never be accepted here at the level they are in Europe. They are massive there. Why would they want to come here and open for Slipknot at some theater?

so freaking true. I think I'll sig this if it looks seemly.

I wanted to bitchslap my friend through the phone when he suddenly broke it to me that he thought Janis Joplin sucked and didn't appreciate it when I played her in the car two months ago. He also said hippies were racist and that's why they didn't watch Hendrix at Woodstock.

Yeah I'm in that crowd. I was really bored at APW when there was no one else on except Arctic Monkeys. They make very uninteresting music and British people have bad taste for making them so successful. They should've played Mardy Bum.

They do have a pretty strong following in Mexico and Coachella is really popular with the Mexican students. It must be the meth, but I could sorta see them playing Coachella. They could probably do the same time slot Mastodon did this year. Goldenvoice is not afraid to bring the "heavy" (RATM, Tool, NIN, etc) nor the disgusting fake butt secx (Uffie) to the stage.

The band's lead guitarist Richard Kruspe has said in numerous recent interviews that they will tour the US this time around. Otherwise I wouldn't be bringing this up. He did caution however to expect a scaled-down version of their show compared to the huge European ones.

I understand the skepticism and the somewhat remote possibility of a Coachella appearance given they're not really the perfect "fit". However, let's not underestimate the fact that GoldenVoice is not afraid to throw a few curveballs at us once in a while.

For example, before it actually happened in 2005, would you ever have thought Bauhaus could be a main stage subheadliner? Right before Coldplay? No, me neither...

If news comes in that rules it out entirely I promise to lay this thread to rest. But for now, I'm keeping the dream alive.

He did caution however to expect a scaled-down version of their show compared to the huge European ones.

Glad I got to see them when I did. They did pretty much the same show they did on Live Aus Berlin, but as an opening act in a small theatre. The only major difference was he couldn't rise out of the floor, and they didn't have the female singer with them.

For example, before it actually happened in 2005, would you ever have thought Bauhaus could be a main stage subheadliner? Right before Coldplay? No, me neither...

Yeah, people usually don't have any interest in legendary bands that haven't played in 8 or 9 years. :rolleyes

And before you say I proved your point, Rammstein never had anywhere close to the following Bauhaus did in the US.

After checking out their vids, suffacated picked up a disc the other day. I like 'em. Not sure about being Coachella material though... But then again, while watching the vids you don't see the moshpits and shit that RATM gets with their fans. I'm thinking that has to do with the crowd being mezmerized by the stage show itself. Sorry, I'm not into the pits...:nono

I understand the skepticism and the somewhat remote possibility of a Coachella appearance given they're not really the perfect "fit". However, let's not underestimate the fact that GoldenVoice is not afraid to throw a few curveballs at us once in a while.

And RATM "fit"? As much as I would like to see Rammstein @ Coachella, I'm not sure that GV or the city of Indio is up to that kind of challenge.

Every show these guys do, they do big.
They have a huge world wide following.

No, not really...I remember the crowd that year, and the vibe they brought with them. Nothing against RATM fans, but it wasn't the greatest blend for crowd control if I recall.

Although, I seriously doubt Rammstein would be as big a draw as RATM, due to the fact they aren't huge here in the states, so who knows? I just know by the vids that their crowd looks more together with the music and show, compared to just bashing into each other for shits and grins.

What challenge?
It's just Rammstein-it's not like they're the most important metal act.

I also have a hard time believing Rammstein on the bill ensures a sell out crowd for that respective day.

Two bands that way too many Americans wrongly misinterpret as one-hit wonders due to their own ignorance, as M Sparks elegantly eluded to in an earlier post.

What's going on in here?

In terms of sheer number of fans I can certainly see Blur and Rammstien having similar appeal but with little crossover, both geographically (Germany & UK) and fan base. As far as their popularity within the Coachella demographic, Blur trumps. Not saying one is better than the other just that Rammstien is more of a niche sound than many in here are acknowledging.

I dunno...I'm in Ireland right now and everyone I know here who likes them just goes to Germany or somewhere on the continent to see them. Besides they have Ryanair over here...your departure flight is like 10 bucks.

Rammstein will draw state side fans who can find a few more acts on the bill to justify dropping the cash and making the trip to Indio.

i'm also guessing that you haven't heard any of their music in about ten years or are only familiar with Du Hast..

i got into them when i was in Germany before Du Hast ever came out here, and they have some pretty good stuff (their old stuff, as well as their recent stuff).. and i was thrilled when i returned to the states to find them appearing on the upcoming Lost Highway soundtrack..

Rammstein sings in German, Spanish, English and Russian.

The atmosphere between the U.S. and outside of is largely different. I recalled kids wearing Nazi shirts when they performed at the Palace in Hollywood, I hated those kids for having the wrong idea for the band. Australia is similar with several people in the crowd making "Hiel Hilter" salutes during the Big Day Out Festival, grossly misinformed people.

I'm all for Rammstein at Coachella, they put on a hell of a show.

ugh.. if it wasn't for the title track, i'd say it was their 2nd worst.. the album before it (which actually came out after it in the U.S.) is soo much better

seemingly unrelated, but a german band i discovered at the same time as Rammstein is Guano Apes.. if you don't like Rammstein's sound (or even if you do) you should check em out.. i'd LOVE for Coachella to get that reunion.. they're not really broken up either, just on an indefinite hiatus i think..

For those who care (and I realize there aren't that many on this board) Rammstein has announced a North American date on their website, playing a festival in Quebec City in July 2010.

So at least now we know they'll be touring North America next year (they haven't done so since 2001).

Of course this doesn't mean they'll be playing Coachella but there IS a convenient 2-month gap during April and May in their tour itinerary.

Their live performances do look impressive, but if they were booked, I get the feeling ticket sales would go through the roof considering they are in the metal genre with diehard fans all over the country, as well as in Canada and Mexico. An extremely rare performance by them would most likely bring about chaos for those who hadn't gotten their finances in check in regards to the fest. Especially on top of a Gorillaz performance, if it happens.

stephen22

I kinda feel like Bonnaroo would be more likely on this one than Coachella. Roo has been trying the metal thing the last few years, they would be able to allow the pyro and fire, and the dates would be a lot closer together (as in Rammstein is not gonna come over for Coachella in April and tour til July).

Good, here's to hoping an amazing Sahara act would go against Rammstein so we'd be clear of all you fans. I have no "change in tune," I said they were the "Pussy" group who put on decent performances, which is only because of their theatrical way of presenting, but other than that, their music is awful and since that is what metal's become these days, I wish I could personally take a massive dump on the entire Rammstein foundation.
