They are my mother-in-law's hats from the 50's and 60's. They are too small for me, otherwise I would wear them all with pride. Any ideas on where, how, what cost I should ask for these?

You should probably check out the listings on etsy and ebay for similar items so you can figure out a typical pricing range.

I know. I'd love for them to go to someone who I had some connection with just so I know that they'd be loved.

That blue feathered one is a winner. If I had money and my head wasn't probably bigger than yours, I would consider it.

My favorite is the last one. It screams trippin' on the sixties, but "keepin it all in here."

I've also got a bunch of beautiful fedoras and such from my father-in-law, but those pics aren't as interesting. They are as to be expected - fine quality and beautiful.

Do they still smell like the 50/60's? And is your mother in law still alive?

That's not sendable, only plugable. (Should I double the consonant?)

It's usually rare, designer, or otherwise extra-special hats that go for a lot of money. I'd do some research to see if any of those fit the bill.

Yes, she's still kicking, but just barely - 83 in Sept.

But . . . the hats are in great condition.

That first one is awesome. However, I don't wear hats (I probably should).

My biggest concern is the size. They are small. I guess evolution does exist. We, modern ladies, must have some bigger brains in us.

I'd keep 'em for Izzy, maybe give the blue one to Feather as a gift of PLUR?

Why can't we bring the hat back?

It used to be such an important part of one's ensemble.

Knowing the size of my head, Izzy will grow out of 'em by 7. I'll keep some, but I like the idea of sharing the wealth. Find out what Feather's head size is and maybe I'll give her a discount. 'Cuz of all of them that's my favorite.

Would you pay $50 - $75 for any of these hats?

Would that be too much or too little?

So was wearing an apron and fresh water pearls while making dinner, but you aren't gonna catch me looking like that sitting at Del Taco!

I actually checked Ebay out for you, Gunz, and didn't see many in that range. More like $10-$30 each. There was one ad that I thought might have been yours though. Similar style hats, but you got 5 for $30. I say save them for Izzy and they may be worth more in the future, or go to an antique or collector's shop and ask. Remember, "One man's trash may be another man's treasure!"

My biggest concern is the size. They are small. I guess evolution does exist. We, modern ladies, must have some bigger brains in us. Which explains why we aren't sashaying around the kitchen in aprons and pearls, darling...

Really love the blue feather one, but the small sizes will probably make the collection more difficult to sell. Personally, I would never pay more than $30 or so for any vintage hat, but I'm not a hat collector.

I'd probably put them up on eBay individually with a really thorough description and lots of photos, and then wait to see what bids they get. You can always set a reserve if you would rather keep them than sell them for under a certain amount.

algunz it looks like the vintage christian dior hats on ebay actually sold for anywhere from $30-$60.

none of the leslie james hats priced at $10 sold, but they were all way uglier than yours.

nothing for collette catha came up.

couldn't find joyce either.

this woman sold a lot of 12 designer hats (one was leslie james) for $158 bucks: http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-30-60s-LOT-OF-22-FASHION-HATS-DESIGNER-LABELS_W0QQitemZ280355677706QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVin tage_Men_s_Women_s_Accessories?hash=item414680260a&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A13|66%3A2|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1 |293%3A1|294%3A50

another collection of hers went for $125

if you wanted to actually sell them on ebay, i think your best bet would be to sell them as a lot, since they're all the same size, so someone could hit a jackpot with them if they were the right size.

otherwise, i know my friend has a somewhat lucrative etsy business where she just buys crap from the salvation army and sells piece by piece on etsy as vintage pieces. ugly clothes are all the rage right now.

your hats are badass tho and i'd take a few if they were my size which i know they're not.

Thanks courtney & mis, for your information.

And you're right . . . the small size could be the killer.

This is my project for the summer. I've done lot of research and am now trying to figure out my best options.
