Biffy Clyro FTW. getting pretty big in the UK, but no one in the states really knows who they are yet. would love to see them out in the states.

I'd have trouble picturing Biffy Clyro getting any bigger to be honest, and I can't see them ever really growing out of the UK...

Emmy the Great

plus a lot of acts playing the John Peel tent at Glasto this year, surely. I should start investigating them now.

I'd really love to see Rachel Unthank take off.

A) Because she has an impossibly cool name,

and

B) Because she and 'The Winterset were one of the surprise highlights of last years Electric Picnic.

Emmy the Great would be great, they should just give us a UK tent for 3 days

Well isn't that kind of the point? Play festivals and get your name out that's how bands get recognized and get bigger. Glad you've heard of them though.

ewww no. The UK really isn't cranking out anything good recently. Franz Ferdinand and that's about it and I'll see whatever else they got recently and raise them Deerhunter, Animal Colective, Grizzly Bear etc etc etc

Have you seen anyone regarding your animal fetish?

We should have a tent for Furries next year.

Oh, sorry you missed it. Here is the memo

Memo
RE: Johnny Marr

Please be advised the former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr now plays guitar with the rock band Modest Mouse. The heretofore mentioned band now has relations with the proud tradition of British music. Thank you for your consideration.

Someone guesting for one album and one tour hardly makes a band British.

There is a ton of great music over here at the moment, but i certainly wouldn't include the turgid drivel that Biffy Clyro pump out these days in that statement.

ok, geez, just sayin they have an animal name, I'm not the one who has a furry fetish its that other guy.

And I didnt get the memo, but that man Johnny Marr is one hard-working dude. As far as I know, The The, The Pretenders, The Healers, Electronic, The Smiths, Modest Mouse, The Cribs, missing anything?

Totally agree on Biffy Crylo, that crap is a hot mess

I would rather listen to biffy clyro over grizzly bear, deerhunter, and animal collective anyday. I'm just not into the psych-experimental indie rock stuff. I just find it really boring. To each his own though. Arctic Monkeys and Modest Mouse would be cool.

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here. I'm from the UK and just came across this thread and thought I'd make my own contribution =]

Firstly, Biffy Clyro are a really good band. I never used to like them much, but over the last month or so I've really got in to them.
Arctic Monkeys are awesome live. How big are they in the states?

Check out The XX. They're quite minimalistic, but Intro, Crystalised and Islands are great songs.

Glasvegas, White Lies, Late of the Pier, Bloc Party, The Cribs, Noah and the Whale, Klaxons, The Heavy (awesome band), Danananaykroyd (sp? anyway, that's a great name and a good band), Kasabian, Dogs Die In Hot Cars, The Datsuns.

These are just a few of my favourite british bands, check them out =]

The Datsuns are from New Zealand, btw (and Dogs Die In Hot Cars split up 4 years ago).

Also, most of those bands listed have already played Coachella.

Apart from that, Welcome.

Yeah, I thought of that just after I posted (re: Datsuns)

Dogs Die In Hot Cars have a new album out this year.

Yes indeed, but it's just a remix album (with remixes and covers done by fans of the band).

There are some good suggestions here. I wouldn't consider most of the bands in your last paragraph "up and coming UK bands," however. White Lies, LOTP and several others have already played Coachella, and killed it too.

I am really stoked to see The xx this year. That album is so good. Crystalisied is one of my favorite songs right now. They would be perfect for an afternoon slot in one of the tents. Definitely worth checking out.
