This isn't one at all. How do you tie a flute to a string?

I was going to post Tiesto's Adagio For Strings but I couldn't bring myself to do it, even for comedy. So whatever. Arvo Pärt.

Barber's Adagio for Strings is a fine piece. His Violin Concerto is better. I have a recording with Menhuin on violin and Furtwangler conducting that I will stand by til the end.
I know I've talked about Bartok's string quartets (especially the 4th) and Shostakovich's string quartets (especially 10 and 15 and 8 is the popular one but it deserves recognition) and I've probably gone on about Beethoven's quartets or at least the late ones. I mean, they're all something but damn if the late ones aren't monstrous.
I love John Adams' Violin Concerto too.
But mostly when I think of my favorite string parts, espeically cello and double bass parts, they're part of symphonies that include instuments that normally do not have strings so I don't know if I am allowed to talk about them.

If you subscribe to string theory, John, you might say that every instrument is a stringed instrument. So how about you stop picking string-nits and go verb a stringed noun on some adjectively stringed noun.
