I think this could conceivably work if they had De La and Mos Def opening on every stop. Maybe Little Dragon opening before them.
I am starting to doubt that any of the shows will have Little Dragon. I'm not counting on Mos Def, either. And "Clint Eastwood" with nobody rapping live at Coachella was pretty pathetic. I know Snoop is far-fetched, but will they have anyone for that song, at least?
Boourns

Same here. Were you at the Little Dragon show here before Coachella? Sooo good.
How long was that show? I hear their solo sets are pretty long. Two albums and extended versions of so many of the songs FTW. I really need to catch a headlining gig.

They are in SF the same night Gorillaz play Chicago, for starters. Last I checked, Windish had them listed for a headlining tour and festivals for October.

At least in one of those interviews, he admit that the Glastonbury performance sucked.
errr...no. he said he should have introduced the special guests and talked to the crowd more.
the "performance" at glasto will be hard pressed to be topped. it blew coachella out of the water.

Didnt they "kill" off the Del gorilla character in their gorillaz world? Has Del performed live with them since this? Im just glad I live local and that Del usually closes with "Clint Eastwood" That said, Id be very happy to see Del on the stage with them in Oakland.
Is Spookfest Oct. 30 or 31st??!

Del has never performed with Gorillaz one time.

And "Clint Eastwood" with nobody rapping live at Coachella was pretty pathetic. I know Snoop is far-fetched, but will they have anyone for that song, at least?
they have a lot of options. recently they did a version of it with Tiny Temah on jools holland. The glastonbury warm-up show they had Eslam Jawaad (the syrian rapper from TGTBATQ song 'mr whippy') rap. glastonbury had snoop do it. byblos apparently had a lebanese rapper (Mashrou3 Leila (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYrTzxd0I3c)?) on clint eastwood. these shows are also prime opportunities for them to do the version with de la soul and bootie brown, but they have never done that live. who knows why.

No. Only 3 dates are on the Livenation site as of now. Considering I recently paid about $70 after fees for a Blackdiamondskye tour ticket for there though (which i keep mentioning only because it's the first time I've bought a Gibson ticket in a long time) you can expect the price to be pretty steep.

I am sure you are an expert on the subject.
Still though, Damon wants his money while he can get it. Easier to grab the big bucks with Gorillaz than with a Blur tour in the states. Live Nation was willing to fork out what looks to be a million dollar garauntee per show. You cant blame him, and how many people are in the live band? 20? They all have to eat too ya know.
amyzzz
07-27-2010, 03:52 PM
I don't understand why you have to make fun of everyone for every little thing that could possibly be wrong with a tour someone wants to see, supre.
I am supremely happy about this and will probably pull my girls out of choir early that night to come with me. (if they wanna go -- they really like superfastjellyfish)
yeahfontaine
07-27-2010, 04:02 PM
How much is it to join to get the presale option?
About $55. That gives you the opportunity to buy up to 4 "special reserved" tickets two days earlier than the public onsale date. It's worth it to me since having good seats in a huge arena > saving some money and being miles away from the stage.
I'm excited! Can't believe I have to wait until the next to last show of the tour leg, though...
Wheres the beef?
07-27-2010, 04:17 PM
michael eavis was suprised too. he was talking about it in his interview the next day in the acoustic tent. he was also surprised that mark e smith showed up. apparently when the fall last played glastonbury they were pissed about their set time. they demanded a reschedule, but michael wouldn't budge. so they went on stage and mark e smith spent the whole time slagging him off.
I'm confused by your usage of the phrase "slagging off". Is this something you picked up recently or just flavors of the old country bubbling to the surface? Also, can I expect it your regular repertoire now?
Thanks

deffinetly another LA date to be added....
i appologize for my stadium rambelings. I suppose i was just wishing for the best, a big show w/ some cheap prices. Gibson will be rad, Hollywood Bowl wasnt to much to ask though...
as far as ticket prices go, this could be bullshit, or they could actually do something cool and have a couple opening artists (Mos, De La, Little Dragon, etc....) I am more then likely going to have to give up my treasure island trip for this show, but i refuse to miss it. Coachella set was pretty epic in my opinion but do to circumstances beyond my control i didnt have the best of times. this is my chance to see the set i wanted.

I just bit the bullet and bought membership. I noticed this though:
Please remember that the Gorillaz.com Sub Division ticket presale offers you early access to the ticket sale to purchase up to 4 tickets to a single show and is only open to eligible, current paid-up subscribers of Sub Division.
When you purchase presale tickets using your presale passcode, you will use up the presale ticket eligibility for your membership and your presale passcode will no longer valid to make additional ticket purchases during future presales.
You can only buy up to 4 tickets to 1 show.
edit: also, it came to $46.65. today, anyway.

That's what it looks like. However, I noticed a message saying that all the European presale codes were being renewed or something so those club members could buy again for the upcoming (European) tour (the ones who may have bought tickets to the earlier dates already). I can't look at the exact wording because the website is blocked from my work.....
Oh fuck. I may have to take the presale day off from work. Can anyone access what time/date the presale happens? Ah fuck.

See, this is my problem. I can't justify spending the money if I don't know what guests are going to be there. Seeing them at a festival and not knowing who is going to perform is one thing, paying $100 to see them on their own and not know who is going to be there... is quite another.

I have already said this earlier in the thread... but the Gorillaz performance at Coachella was not worth $100. Gorillaz and Demon Days are still two of my favorite albums ever. They still hold an incredible amount of significance to me... I just can't justify spending $100 on a Gorillaz show.
In fact, if I bought tickets to this show, it would officially be the most expensive show I have ever bought a ticket for, excluding festivals obviously.
If I knew who the special guests were and who would be opening, I would be a lot more willing to spend the money. However, I cannot spend $100 on the show I saw at Coachella. Actually, even if it was garaunteed to be the greatest show I have ever seen in my entire life without question... I still probably shouldn't spend $100 on the show. There are much more important things I need to spending my money on. Just because I can't afford the show does not make a single ounce less of a fan.

Josh, you are right in just about every sense. There are numerous bands that I LOVE but only a handful (maybe less) that I would pay THAT much to see live and those bands have proven themselves countless times as a stellar live act. The only way anybody should spend that kind of money on a live show is if they feel comfortable with it and content that you will definitely be rewarded in some way shape or form, in this instance you don't.
Kudos Josh, kudos.

The most I have spent on a live show was $250 for Radiohead @ The Fonda and believe me when I say that it was fucking tough to hand over that money, obviously that feeling was gone about a minute or so into the set and it ended up being one of the better concert experiences I ever had.
I would never pay $100 to give a band a second chance, I don't want to skip out on the Gorillaz either but I have to.

the most I've ever spent on a non festival concert was REM at Red Rocks back in 2008, but the main reasoning behind that was because Modest Mouse and The National were openers. I would've never spent that much for one band. Especially in an arena no less.

Oh hell no. I can blame livenation for the fees... but the reason they are charging so much in the first place, is beacause Damon is charging an incredibly high price to all the cities that are booking them. I know Damon has a lot of people in the band... but still. These prices are ridiculous and you cannot put all the blame on livenation. Not this time anyways.

Concert ticket prices are not randomly assigned. It has to do with how much the artist is charging.

I understand Livenation are responsible for a portion of the ticket cost. However, the point is, if Damon wasn't charging so much, the tickets would not be as expensive. Damon knows that livenation will add a ridiculous cost to the tickets and he should have taken that into acount before he set how much he was charging for these shows.
Alternatively, if he really didn't expect prices to be this high, after he saw how much tickets were going to cost, he should have lowered the cost. I honestly can't believe he thinks the arenas are going to sell out with these prices. I have no doubt the theatre shows will sell well.

you know if I were Damon, and wasn't able to get some of the vocalists out on tour, I would make up for it by resurrecting more of the songs that don't require guest vocalists. i.e. some of those great songs from the self-titled album.
then again, if I were Damon I wouldn't be playing fucking arenas.

07-28-2010, 09:55 PM
Hmm. I'd only pay around 100 for like Paul McCartney, a reunited Led Zep, and maybe Daft Punk. I'd go 60-80 range for Muse (Luckily they usually aren't that expensive and play a lot of festivals too) and Radiohead. 45-60 I'd go for bands like Arcade Fire, Flaming Lips, and the Gorillaz, and a few more I can't think of right now. This obviously doesnt include fests. And also bills with more than one really good band I could go slightly more expensive for.
Too bad the Gorillaz are 100 though. Definitely a no go. And I'd never pay 50 for cheap seats.
60-80 is even select company, just bands I really really really love. Past that is only once in a life time experience people that I must see if I get a chance. Gorillaz are not one of those, sorry.

Josh, at the end of the day this is a business which means it's a profit for promotion companies and a living for artists, if Livenation made Damon as well as the band a very sizeable offer that they could feel comfortable with financially, more so than any other company than he (they) had to take it. I understand that you have to take care of your fans too but in this case he is taking care of them by even agreeing to travel to 19 different destinations with what is essentially an artistic concept, he probably could have made a shit load more by touring Blur but decided to make Gorillaz more accessible.

I wasn't being a jackass...so you're saying there's a floor at the Greek too? No, there are seats, and then there's a pit, just like Gibson. No floor.
Drinkey McDrinkerstein
07-29-2010, 03:13 PM
Typically a "floor" is what you're going to find at an arena, the space where the basketball or hockey team would play down the middle of the seats. At Long Beach the floor is usually GA standing. At Staples I've seen it seated, and i've seen it go both ways at the Arrowhead Pond.
Gibson is a theater and literally has an orchestra pit, which is very small...200 people capacity? Not sure. Anyhow, i would never refer to the pit as "floor" in a theater.
Typically the pit tickets and orchestra level seats are the same price at Gibson...the highest level, meaning ORCH row SS is the same cost as ORCH PIT despite the difference in distance from the stage. All of the ORCH seats at Gibson are pretty damn good seats though. You even feel pretty close in Loge at Gibson.
EDIT: the biggest reason for pit and floor being such different terms is that is really designates a very large difference in capacity (pit being 200-400 maybe and floor being 1,000-5,000+ depending on the type of venue we're talking about) and also where the seats themselves are. Saying "floor" really indicates that the seats are raised, as in GA venues with balconies up top or sports arenas where even the lowest seats are like 10 feet off the ground.
Coachella Bound
07-29-2010, 03:21 PM

Exactly. It's their only solid record and they act like "Clint Eastwood" is the only worthwhile track from it.

How do I know where my tickets will be located?
If you are buying seated tickets the specific seating location can usually be seen during transactions that are booked online.

i believe this is an option to buy the sub-division membership along with the tickets.
taken from gorillaz.com faq:
I purchased a Sub Division membership from a ticket vendor while I was making my ticket purchase. How do I receive all of my membership information? Approximately 10 days after your purchase, the ticket vendor will send you a unique and personal pass-code that you will be able to redeem to log-in to Gorillaz.com and create your Sub Division account.

That doesn't make a lot of sense since you're buying the membership to get to the pre-sale. (and you get a "free" lithograph print)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
FINAL WORD ON "STYLO" CAR
Dear Sub Divisioner
I know you have all been waiting on the Stylo car for a considerable time now. The production process of the car started back in February and since then we have had various issues with getting it manufactured. Originally we wanted to create a diecast model of the car but had a license application refused from the car company. We then explored the idea of creating a handmade model replica and thought we were back on track. Finally after months of modelling and re-sampling I received the car sample last week and unfortunately it has ended up looking like something that would be better sold at a Garden Centre!
I don't feel it's of a high enough standard to be sent out to you all, and as we have now exhausted every avenue possible to get this right I have been forced to come up with another idea. The alternative item is a limited edition litho print, which comes numbered, stamped and with a letter of authenticity. This print will be exclusively produced for Sub Division members who signed up for the original membership that included the car.
I hope you are willing to accept this new gift and I would like to offer my sincere apologies for this change and all the delays you have experienced. It's safe to say that I will never attempt to produce a car again! Ever...
Jamie x

So...
No car, overpriced tickets to a concert that most likely won't sell out and most likely won't have an open GA floor, and no word on guests.
Glad I paid for that membership!!!
I really thought it would help in the event of a smaller show, like Warfield or Civic.
