This is a place for us. Let's have a little haven. Simple folks with a taste for pure. Calm or spastic.

MP3s/Mixes welcome. Especially welcome are your own tracks.

Who do you love? What are you listening to? I'm liking this today:

I enjoy Bon Iver, but can't tell anyone due to fear of shamefully mispronouncing the name.

Help would be greatly appreciated since Bonnaroo is coming up and I'll inevitably need to say, at some point, "Hey, it's almost 3:30, let's go see Bon Iver."

now i understand your struggle. i've been pronouncing it incorrectly..

this is how wiki puts it:
Bon Iver (pronounced /bɔːn ivɛər/)

hope that helps lol

It doesn't matter how you pronounce "Bon Iver" since it is a misspelled French phrase, and the artist himself doesn't even care how you pronounce it. But if you really care, it's (BOHN-Ee-Vair).

^^^ yes it's just franglish. say it with a snooty fake french accent and you'll be fine.

My 2 cents:

Laura Marling - Ghosts - so nice. Like a Joni Mitchell/Edie Brickell hybrid. I enjoy the clip of her vocals, it's very direct and not overindulgent.

Violent Femmes - Blister in the Sun - one of my first favorite bands. One of the most over heard but under appreciated bands I know. Brian Ritchie is a god damned genius, imo.

Robert Johnson - fuck yeah. You cannot beat pre-war blues. I want to sit in a speakeasy and watch him on a stool plucking his guitar. Penultimate music to me - one man, one instrument - a full range of effect.

Six Organs of Admittance - I saw him play here a year or so ago at the request of my boyfriend's friend. It's a little slow for me but in the right place at the right time it's good - I bet this would be good driving music through desert or woods.

Bill Monroe - hell yes get that bluegrass flavor in this place. Mandolin + Banjo = <3. Most fun music to dance to in the world. Don't tell anyone.

Elliott Smith - Awesome Rey. Trust you to come with this. Beautiful version. Do you want to kill the people talking? I do! Ellliott Smith is one of my favorite artists of all time. He's an entire symphony in himself and I am keeping this brief so that's all I have to say about that.

What Tom posted - holy SHIT what IS that? Sounds very gypsy and I dig it.

Beatles on Ukelele - I'm glad you posted that. I like it as much as the first time you showed me that. That man is exceptionally skilled.

Neil Young - pretty good. I'm not the biggest fan of his but full respect. What is it about acoustic guitar and social commentary? They seem to go hand in hand. I guess it's because you can HEAR what the person is saying.

Arlo Guthrie - Alice's Restaurant - classic. And one of the first songs/artists that made me come out of my "country sucks" phase in my youth.

Leonard Cohen - Lover - Listen to those bongos. Love it. beat beat beat beat

Sun City Girls - probably you aren't surprised Jared that I haven't heard them before. That guy wants to give Andrew Bird a run for his money on the whistle. So cowboy. Passionate singing. Me likey.

John Butler Trio - This is the guy that reminds me of Kaki King. The type of musician that turns a guitar into something else. I think there's some classical Spanish influence and some bluegrass influence but it level jumps.

Thom Yorke - not a fan

Smashing Pumpkins - I like this, because I am a fan and I like that whole 90s concept thing that happened where everybody did that "unplugged" thing. Makes me hear the foundation. Yes please!

Thanks everyone who are contributing, I'm loving the youtubes and I'm hoping we'll get some more discussion going.

Plus you know I got to put:

aUPuG32ZK1Y

sorry for the shaky but I love this song and it's at Farm Sanctuary.

You'd probably love some of their stuff, and absolutely despise some. They are all over the place, and appropriate from about every genre or culture on the planet. Maybe I'll do a young'uns.
