Ok, so we're headed to London on October 3. I'm thinking we can go to that Toronto show. We can get into Toronto on October 2, go to the show, and then go from Toronto to Charlotte on October 3 and catch our flight to London.

The only thing that could keep me from the Toronto show would be further layoffs at my job, particularly if they affected me. But I don't think that's going to happen, and even if it were, I would find a way to make this shit happen. So glad they're doing NA dates outside of the week we're in London, woo!

Jesus christ, you babies whine about how Fever Ray are never going to tour America or do so only when you're in Europe, then they announce tour dates and an on-sale and you still manage to complain about that more than rejoice about the fact that you were proven wrong about them touring America.

EDIT: Oh, and I'm sure they decided on this Saturday as the on-sale solely to fuck you over.

True, you can get the lawn tix for $19 still. Also Brandon, if its still not sold out by monday, people can buy them at their box office, so then it would be $30 even and it doesnt feel like robbery. Granted, I know you wouldnt drive up here just for that cause the gas would cost more than the savings.

Less than 20 shows in 8 years so far, so that averages around 3 a year. They may play, but you may have to travel quite some distance to see them.

You can tell how many people are trying to get tickets at the same time on ticketmaster by how long your wait is once you type in the little captcha. Lots of times, it's like 2 seconds and tickets pop up, meaning few people. But this morning it kept refreshing at 10 over and over and it went between a 1 and 2 minute wait, which I gather to mean that there were significantly more people trying to get tickets than usual.

hawkingvsreeve
05-09-2009, 01:44 PM
Yeah I just bought a ticket being that opportunities to see Fever Ray are going to be few and far between but still, you have one record and you are a little known act from Sweden. A $30 show is a bit bold.

TM server has been acting up lately, so the constant refresh doesnt correlate to this getting a ton of hits. I tried to see what would come up for Mogwai yesterday and it refreshed like 6 times before it gave me seat location. This was in the middle of the afternoon, so.........

i'd question how little known they are. maybe in the states, but i couldnt say.

I was thinking about the ticket prices when an ad for pay per view came on. They were advertising fake wrestling (the dumbest shit ever), UFC and some hannah montana special.. all were 29.99 and the ufc was even more... maybe 34.99. People use their money in strange ways.

kinda puts in perspective for me.

Right, thats understandable. I mean I didnt have to deal with the regular TM sales for Radiohead, but yes that happens with some major bands and onsales on ticketmaster.(Look at the phish onsales) And this morning it never said ''your wait is 5 minutes or less or 15'' etc etc. It just said your wait is 1 minute or less. Also understand that theres more than one onsale at 10am for something in l.a. today and the traffic does can part in delays sometimes.

TM is fucking strange. Werent there some rumblings about a merger awhile back... livenation i believe...

also, can anyone make sense of why the other shows havent gone on sale? are they using LA sales as a barometer or something? or is this typical?

suprefan
05-09-2009, 02:44 PM
I think thats just how its happening. The merge talks are still around, just a bad time to try and do it since jobs will be lost and then things will have to change between both companies and why upset the balance when its kind of going alright at the moment?

No, it would drive how many acts are on the bill down. If you dont have money, you cant book talent. Blowing your wad on one act is not wise and makes the rest of the line up suffer.

How much would it cost to book fever ray? Less than the mars Volta and Gogol bordello, surely? It would be great to have fever ray as one of the big three acts at detour, but it seems highly unlikely. Not really a fit for a party atmosphere.

I think it is possible. I mean, she is already going to be coming to America for the tour, why not stick around a few more days?

Wow, you called Justin Katz? THE Justin Katz? I'm not gay but I'm totally hard for you right now, forzapalermo.

Maybe this shows how skewed my perspective's become over the past couple years but if the Toronto show's $30, I'll be pleasantly surprised. I guess I've just come to expect tickets to shows, or at least decent tickets, to be in the $50 range on the low end.

I dont think itll cost more than that anywhere else. Rick I think you are just feeling that way. I mean The Prodigy show you are going to is $60 because theres 7 acts playing, thats justifiable. When the last time you went to a show at a small venue around where you live anyway? You saw Cohen the other week and you went to Coachella recently, yeah those cost a bit, but thats expected. You NIN ticket cost you $20, cant complain about that right? In the end, its your taste in music and who you want to see that determines what you wallet will be spending.

How much were the Prodigy shows in California? And don't bother telling me to look 'em up myself -- I don't give a shit since I'm not going. Just curious because it seemed from the discussion in the Prodigy thread that tickets in other places, while not $60 exactly, still were in the $50 range or thereabouts despite not having as packed a lineup as the Seattle show.
And I wasn't actually complaining. I guess the point I initially intended to make but failed to follow through on was that the complaining by Brandon seemed a little odd. $30 for a show doesn't seem outlandish to me, especially for Fever Ray. And I wasn't under some misguided notion that the Toronto show was going to be more expensive than any American dates.
My ticket for NIN was cheap because I'm in the lawn. I'd have paid, like, 5 times as much if I wanted pit tickets, and 10 times as much if I wanted to see them in Vegas. So that doesn't really contradict what I wrote before, which was about decent tickets to a show (which I don't consider lawn tickets to be) seeming to be $50 on the low end.

30 bucks for a show for a band with one record is a bit of a stretch. I dont care who the band is. Add in fees and gas to get there and back, and this show is costing me $60. I take issue with that.

schoolofruckus

It is a little steep if you only look at the length the set will probably run. But again, it's not like it's The Thermals just standing up there and playing their songs with their heads down. The experience of the full production is the whole point (although I LOVE her album - top to bottom, more than either of The Knife's records). The value can't be measured with a stopwatch.

But the more I think about it, I do hope that she has some non-album material to play. Otherwise, it's going to be under an hour (the album is only 48 minutes), and that would be pretty disappointing.

Edit: Looking up her London setlist, it looks like she plays the entire album plus a couple other songs. So, that means...about an hour? That feels a bit right.

BlackSwan
05-11-2009, 01:41 PM
Go in expecting her to just play the album and maybe a cover or two:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3393/3433089100_4ba0aff723.jpg?v=0

I think the fact that is most likely the only chance we will all get to see this show, and hear these songs live makes it worth the money. Apparently, the creation of this album was a total fluke and she almost deleted the whole thing from her computer, so I doubt there will be another one (Fever Ray album or tour) any time soon.

captncrzy
05-11-2009, 01:46 PM
I guess $30 sounds about right to me honestly. The rarity of the show, in addition to the production that Gabe mentioned, makes it worthwhile to me. I mean, it costs $20 to go to a movie these days (if you include the oh-so-necessary popcorn purchase).

that's exactly my thought behind paying for a show like this...it's very much a special event.

I've paid $30 or 40 for shows that I was a lot less excited about in the past

All I can say is that my friends better go to this with me. I'm going whether they go or not but I know this is going to be one of those shows where they will be kicking themselves for years for not going...

So, all this talk of Fever Ray has made me go out and buy a ticket for the Shepherds Bush Empire show in July. I wasn't going to go, as they played the whole album (plus a couple of covers) last time i saw them in April, but the venue is right next to where i work - so no booking fee/ticketmaster rape charge to worry about.

Just picked up a ticket for the Monday night New York show. The Toronto show would've added too much of a cost to our Europe trip (since we'll be leaving the day after that show), so instead I'll be flying solo to NY. Anyone else going there that night?

Maybe... I'm juggling this around a lot. If I do go, I think I need to go on Tuesday.

I recently inherited a lot of money for graduation, and now Fever Ray doesn't seem so expensive... I'm still listening to the album though.

This will need to be confirmed with Feather. Who was it that you competed with? Dancing is as serious as the internet. Serious business.

Feather's PLUR awards were awesome, but I might be a little biased. Regret not going to the Orb with that crew to see these dancing skills.

Forza did win for the PLUREST dancing, which is a little different from dancing skills altogether. You will get to see them at Underworld they were pretty wild. There was no competition it was based soley on who I was with during Coachella.

actually I did google it. I found out info about the warfield box office (which alone was news to me). and I found info on the grand ballroom. but nothing about one selling tickets for the other. last time I bought tickets for either venue, neither had a box office.

So I just realized that Fever Ray are playing Pukkelpop. This makes me an extremely happy camper and atones for them not coming up to Seattle. No way in hell will I miss that set.
