Same goes for Röyksopp, Orbital, Sade, Madness, The Specials, Basement Jaxx, and Faith No More. C'mon GV, you know it's a good idea.

Are Jay K and the gang not popular in the US?

They are BY FAR one of the greatest live acts I have ever seen.

Having seen them twice they have disappointed hugely. I saw them play a festival in Holland and they just came across as very bland and self-absorbed.
I'm sure they would be popular for Coachella but there catalogue of the last 10 years or so is very lacking.

Well it's been at least 10 years since I've seen them. It's sadly and highly possible that Jay Kay's ego killed the vibe. They were so energetic and their sound was so clean. I hope they can get past their drama.

I guess that's why Jay Kay has to wear those hats . . . to hide his big cancerous head.

I still :pulse.

Bumpin' this.

Was browsing the Jay Kay forum and saw a link to this: http://www.valparaisotimes.cl/content/view/597/1/

Franz Ferdinand played that same festival in '06, as well as Coachella '06... I'm not saying FF and Jay's tour schedules are similar, but hey, maybe he'll grace us with his awesomeness in April. :)

Are Jay K and the gang not popular in the US?

Unfortunately no, they're not as popular in the US as in Europe or other parts of the world. In Europe the headline festivals and play big arenas and stadiums. The last time they toured the U.S. in late 2005, they played clubs and theaters (I saw them in NYC and Chicago on that tour). Before that the last time they were here was 2001. They were in NYC on 9/11, and their whole tour got canceled because of that. So maybe now that it's been 4 years they'll be back again?

But I'm in total disagreement with the poster who said they're not good live. They're a blast live! It's high energy soul/funk/dance music, and JK and the boys don't do it half-assed.

It would be cool to see them play the Sahara, but almost for the sake of getting them more recognition, I'd love to see them play the main stage in a time slot or 2 before a headliner. So people camped out to see a headliner would be exposed to a kick-ass performance.

So yes... It would be my wet dream if they did a U.S. tour in early 2010 with a Coachella performance added on. What would be the cherry on top, is if they brought back the horn section, which they haven't used since 2001 I think...

P.S.- Traveling from Minneapolis to NYC to see them play, and then to Chicago a week later to see them again, made me realize that it's worth breaking the bank to do something you love... like traveling all the way from Minneapolis to go to Coachella.

Jamiroquai is some original shit, and dont get as much recognition as they deserve in the US. Coachella boosts mother fuckers careers hard and Jamiroquai got prolly would be able to do a bomb set granted JK can still sing.

Great song... also shows where their music styles were early in their careers compared to where they are now... I wouldn't call it any better or worse, but they've evolved, kinda the way Radiohead has.

Take a trip back with me to the year 1996...while the rest of the world was getting it's dance on and embracing Jamiroquai and a new dance music culture, much of the US had decided to take a few steps back down towards the primordial sludge we originally emerged from. They embraced third-wave grunge and shitty Nü-metal instead.

Americans are quite often dipshits about this sort of thing.

Well it took until 1997, when a certain video came out, to get our attention. The problem is, they faded back into obscurity here after said video came out... unless you wanna count "Canned Heat": The song Napolean Dyanamite dances to for Pedro. This is that certain video-

One of the things Jamiroquai is known for is the way they transition and end songs... I can't get enough of the way this song transitions and ends, even after all these years. Like from 3:30 on.
