SADE on sunday night!

New Sade in 2009
Sade's new album will be released November 24, 2009. Just in time for the Holidays

The title of the Album has not been released.

If you know Sade, you know she does not make albums for the money, Sade is an artist who creates music purely on inspiration. Hence why we've waited nearly a decade for another release, like a poet with a 9 year dry spell until she fell in love again, Sade will bless us with another classic.

November 2000 was the last time Sade had a new album out, here we are, 9 years later and we are once again being blessed with another November release date, Why november? Sade loves the Holidays...

While some political observers lament a return of the same old, same old, fans of the Nigerian-born singer have gladly welcomed a fresh batch of takes on the labors of lost love.

Regardless of the new talent and musical trends that have come and gone since her last studio album, one thing will never change, her honeyed voice. With only slight stylistic changes marking each new collection of songs, Sade has sold more than 40 million albums since the mid-'80s, each marked by tales of heartache and longing, and none more spare and haunting than Lovers Rock.

The 50-year-old singer, who got her first break in the early '80s fronting the English Latin soul band Pride, reveals little about her closely shielded private life on her #5 album.

From her signature first hit, 1984's "Smooth Operator," off her Diamond Life debut, to "The Sweetest Taboo," Sade has avoided trend-hopping. It's a pattern she told MTV Europe she's continuing on her latest release. "We're lucky that we have some platform already established that we can step back onto," she said. "We haven't ever adapted to fit in and even right at the very beginning we didn't really fit in. We have our own kind of course and that's the route we go. So we either sink or swim."

I don't think its so much that she doesn't tour as much as she does an album, tours, then goes away for several years.

I think 2010 is long enough since Lovers Rock to do something!

Kudos for thinking outside of the box, SDSoldier7! I would never have though of Sade. A real long shot, though. She's a huge star, but doesn't feel like a right fit to be a Coachella headliner, so that means a sub-headliner and why should a huge star like her play second fiddle to someone? That being said, I'd love to see this on the main stage:

(PS - I lost her guitarist's number. Anyone got it?)

I never paid her much mind until I bought a cheap copy of Diamond Life and realized how incredible she is. she gets lumped into the soft jazz, kenny G stuff but is way, way above that

I think she would be amazing at coachella

That's my point. She's too big a star to be a sub-headliner, but she's not exactly the right kind of artist to be a Coachella headliner. I think it would be far more likely to see her playing Glastonbury one year (if she hasn't already.)

From Billboard:

Exclusive: New Sade On The Way, 2009 Release Possible

Sade Adu, the reclusive "quiet storm" soul signer who takes notoriously long breaks between releases, has regrouped with the band that bears her name and is recording her first album of new material since 2000's "Lovers Rock," Billboard.com sources confirm. The group is in the studio through June and Sony hopes to put the record out by the end of 2009 though, despite rumors, there is no set release date on the calendar.

"She is in the studio and the album will come when it is ready," a source at Sony tells Billboard. "You don't wait for years for one and then rush it."

Sade's longtime bandmate Stuart Matthewman, a.k.a. Cottonbelly, also confirms that new material is in progress, though he says the project is still in its "early days" and won't be close to finished until "later in the year."

Last week, rumors of a new Sade album surfaced when the official-looking website sade2009.com went live with a message claiming a release date of November 24, 2009 for a new album. However, the source at Sade's label denies any connection to that site. "We do not know where that fan site could have got that release date from, but it is 100% not true." Billboard contacted the site's owner and web developer, who insisted that the release date was "official;" since his response, however, the site's posting has been updated with a correction: "The date above has been changed, a representative from Sony confirmed the new date to be unknown. Please check back for the update on Sade's album release."

Though no details about Sade's new music have yet been revealed, one artist may have already heard snippets: Maxwell, a fellow Sony recording artist and longtime friend and collaborator with Matthewman, who will soon release a new record of his own ("BLACKsummer'snight," July 7) after a multi-year hiatus. The R&B singer sent a message to fans in March via his private Facebook page in which he indicated that he'd heard some of his labelmate's new recordings. "Trust me, it's so monolithic it'll shake you in your shoes!" he wrote.

Sade's 2000 release, "Lovers Rock," sold 3,881,000 copies in the U.S. and the prior album, 1992's "Love Deluxe," sold 3,407,000. Since 1985's "Diamond Life" debut, Sade has sold nearly 17 million units in the U.S. alone according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Sade, the "quiet storm" R&B group featuring vocalist Sade Adu, has completed its long-awaited sixth studio album. "Soldier of Love," the band's first collection of new material since 2000's "Lover's Rock" will be released Feb. 8, 2010 worldwide on Epic.

As first revealed on Billboard.com in July, Sade and her longtime bandmates including Stuart Matthewman, a.k.a. Cottonbelly, regrouped in a U.K. recording studio in June and were recording and mixing into October.

Though no details about Sade's new music have yet been revealed, one artist heard early versions of several songs: Maxwell, a fellow Sony recording artist and longtime friend and collaborator with Matthewman. She's sold a lot. At least three million copies sold from each of her studio albums, plus her live sets sell well too. She's headliner status, but not necessarily Coachella headliner, I suppose.

If she's not known enough by the Coachella crowd to headline, she's way too popular to subheadline, unless she opened for someone like Bowie. I just don't see it happening.

Spring outing supports 'Soldier of Love'

With her first album in nine years scheduled for worldwide release on Feb. 8 and 9, Sade is looking to first tour Europe and then the US in support of the new album. It will be her first tour in nine years as well.

Preliminary plans call for Sade Adu, who turns 50 on Jan. 16, to tour Europe in March and then head to the states in April and May. More details are expected within a couple of weeks.

Sade's sixth album, "Soldier of Love" is her first new disc since 2000's "Lover's Rock." The title track has already been released to radio and online. Her five albums have sold 17 million units, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

really yuou look at the lack of originality or taste here and you ask that? I mean people always seem to jizz about the same things i read when i take a minute to look at pitchfork.

Sade was never and will never be interesting to listen to or hear live.

Yeah that's why 500,000 people bought a CD of her live performance.

Love the new song. New video's a bit meh. Sophie Muller, I assume. Very 90s and not sure what's up with the lamae bellbottoms?? Quite nice to see her showing her age, though.

[B]But, I will buy every single board member who says hi to me that weekend a frozen lemonade if she plays. Hell, I'll buy you lunch too. It's just not happening. I'd love it as much as all of you, but it's not happening. She's...

She has no place on this lineup, unless she opened for Jay-Z and even that would be a bit nutty. Oh well. :-(

01-21-2010, 07:18 AM
I've always found her pretty boring -- she's a musician my parents like and they are in their 70s. I mean, her music and voice are pretty, but she's belongs in an auditorium -- not the polo fields. There's already too much smooth, quiet, or boring acts on the line up. The line up needs energy and Sade doesn't provide that for me. (Note: I said "for me". I get that a lot of you people want to do it to her.)

However, that being said, I would be all for Sade playing as long as she was on the main stage and one of my favorite bands who would have ended up on the main stage (i.e. PAVEMENT) find themselves at the outdoor stage instead.

just seen her on tv (I sit and watch all day with bucket of fried chicken) and she looked good. Fit. The male backup singers were dressed in military garb and very serious. Like "dont think about charging the stage or we'll wring your neck" serious. There goes that plan.

Um... what's up with the voiceover saying "Ferguson" right at the end?? Did Dave accidentally say Kilborn or something?

I don't think this song really stands up with Sade's best work but she looks and sounds fantastic. Does she age??

It's a great album! The title track is sort of a red herring, since the rest of the album is slow and sensual. There's some excellent songwriting though, especially on "Morning Bird" and "In Another Time."

As for being added to Coachella, where would she fit in this lineup? Opening for Jay-Z? Competing with Tiesto soundbleed? Sandwiched between Thom Yorke and his question marks?

Grant
