WTF? Brian Wilson was at Coachella?!?!? Brian Wilson performing Pet Sounds would be an AMAZING sub headliner!

You know? Honestly, I wanted to say he WOULD headline, but I'm honestly not sure. Which is why I posted this and hoped to make a discussion about it. I feel that if he performed all of Pet Sounds it would make for a headliner spot. But even then, isn't Pet Sounds only like 40 minutes long?

Paul McCartney's all time favorite song is God Only Knows.

I would think he has earned the right to headline, but I don't think GV would put him in that spot. I'm going to agree with the cohen slot

I am aware of this. The "Beach Boys" still tour right now though. The remaining alive members minus Brian Wilson. If they got Brian Wilson in on it, they would be headliner material.

This bothers me greatly. The Beach Boys are one of the most influential bands of all time and nobody recognizes it. Listen to a band like Animal Collective. Everyone considers them to be so influential, and I won't argue, they are. However, they are basically a Beach Boys cover band.

Actually, the "beach boys" that tour is really just the one cousin that was in the group. I forget his name. But it was actually a big legal battle a few years ago where Brian Wilson tried to sue his cousin wouldn't tour under the name.

I would agree, only not as far as you go. not exactly a cover band but AC borrows ALOT from the Beach Boys.

I agree. They are. And I'm not saying I wouldn't like to see them, because I would. But it would be a bad choice of a headliner IMO

you know what's weird about this picture? Paul's wearing a different suit from the one he performed in. that means he just rolls in a suit even when he's just lounging around. class act all the way.

Let me tell you right now, this would be a TERRIBLE idea. Brian Wilson, while a brilliant songwriter and major influence, is beyond awful as a performer these days. I saw him last year (or maybe 2 years ago) here at my local music fest and it was the most boring show I've ever seen in my life. The dude sat on a stool, drank coffee, and READ THE LYRIC SHEETS throughout the entire undwhelming set.

Seriously, this would be awful.

Brian Wilson could sit around for an hour and complain about his nurses stealing his jewelery and I'd still watch. Have him play an electric violin and I'll be front row.

i saw him perform "smile" at disney hall years ago. it WAS amazing. after he finished that album he busted out all the beach boys classics, ended with "good vibrations". he is a shell of his former self due to all the drugs, but his band more than made up for his shortcomings, they were pure talent. one of the best sounding shows i have ever been to, if not THE best.

Beach Boys, Brian Wilson...can't you just catch them at your local casino? Tickets freely available for their current tour I might add.
Are you really thinking these guys should be headlining Coachella? Go see them at Primm, NV you can still get 5th row tickets for $50. Geez I despair!

I take back what I said earlier.......AC sound almost exactly like Beach Boys during their Pet Sounds era (minue the more Pop elements)...So I decided that if Brain Wilson does perform at Coachella....AC should be there to help out with vocals and harmonies....Epic...

I think you're mistaken...the current touring line up for the "Beach Boys" does NOT include Wilson...it is merely Mike Love with a backing band...

Ha! Here is hoping was I'm right about this one! I have been listening to alot of pet sounds since I made this thread. such a beautiful album...and the comparisons with AC are justified...

This really gives me hope...I am thinking maybe 74 min set...Pet Sounds in full followed by In My Room and Don't Worry Baby...and ending with Good Vibrations...and I stick to the idea of AC handling alot of the vocals...

Yeah I saw him a couple years ago at the Mountain Winery and it was pretty spectacular. He is pretty off-kilter and ended up leaving the stage after falling off of his stool, all from what I believe was a panic attack. Regardless though, for me it was impossible to leave the show without thinking it was anything other than amazing simply because of the quality of the music and how tight the band was. I think it could headline easily.

Saw Brian Wilson play House of Blues, San Diego to 1,000 people. It barely sold-out. Seriously, Coachella headliner??? Even with Beach Boys it is a fail. I could sanction a late afternoon/early evening slot but headliners or sub-headliner for Main Stage is a huge stretch.
My point is seeing the "Beach Boys" in whatever guise is not rare or that desirable. If you are currently playing Primm, NV you are not a Coachella headliner.

San Diego is hardly the city to hold up as a standard of judgment when it comes to musical excellence.

I mean, seriously, it's the only town in the world where Slightly Stoopid can sell out multiple shows in a row.
