You sure its the full lineup? It says May 5th.
I'm intrigued by this, good music, good yoga, cheap price. But I'm sore those resorts are expensive but we will see. Maybe the full lineup tomorrow will intrigue me

It's only a partial lineup, and it's a pretty good lineup. Cost too much, but the lineup is good.

Pretty sure I'm going. I just found out about this. Sounds quite lovely. I'll drive that far to see BSS...
Tickets are a bit steep, but oh well...
If BSS announce a California tour right around then, then I'll just stay home and see them here.

Crazy, I've never heard of this until now. This is basically a 35 minute trip for me, but fuck, things are always so overpriced at Squaw Valley.
I like the lineup so far, though. I hope some local promoters get a chance to snag a couple of acts and bring them to Reno. Specifically, BSS, Sharon Jones, Spoon and Amanda Palmer..

Wait so is there no camping in the immediate area? (And by that I mean within 30 minute driving distance?) There's no way I'm going to this if I have to stay in a hotel....
I've never been to Tahoe in my life though, and it's about time, so that's part of the reason I'm interested as well...

05-06-2009, 05:28 PM
Nevermind I don't think that's what you meant by "overpriced".
gmoneyak
05-06-2009, 05:50 PM
Actually, the more I look at the event, the more I like it. The price for a 3-day pass is $124.50, fees and shipping included.
The idea if taking a lift up 8000ft to the main stage is pretty badass. I think I'm down for this..
And pancakes, there are TONS of camping right around Truckee which is only about 15-20 minutes away.

Alright sweet, I figured Tahoe would be a haven for great camping but I'm not very familiar with the Northern Sierra at all.
But really... the potential scenery of this thing really seals the deal for me. It sounds pretty special.
And if we're only looking at 20-30 bands over a 3-day period, would that just mean a 1 stage festival? That would be kind of interesting. Also really adds to the appeal.
gmoneyak
05-06-2009, 07:18 PM
It looks like 3 stages...technically.
A Main Stage on top of the mountain, one in the Village for late night shows, and one for local talent in the events plaza.
But the way it's scheduled, (Main stage from 12-8p, second stage from 9p til midnight), none of the acts will overlap.
They have a partial list of set times already up on the website in the "Lineup" section, it looks like they'll be adding a few more night acts for Sunday.
Sunday's Main Stage lineup looks solid - The Honey Brothers> Amanda Palmer> Mates Of State> BSS> Andrew Bird> Spoon

I don't know about this. To me, Squaw = the West Face of KT-22 on a powder day. But a music festival at high camp sounds pretty sweet. The lines to get up on the tram must be a disaster. 8,000 ft, don't forget your sunscreen!

I found the website for the Tahoe Sierra Century pretty informative..
The links to the campgrounds are in the link to the Tahoe Sierra Century site..
So what time does the music usually start on Friday? Thanks.
Camping:
Camping is not available at Squaw Valley, however, several campgrounds are located within 2 miles of the start/finish on Hwy. 89 between Truckee and Squaw Valley alongside the Truckee River (toilets and water, but no hot shower facilities). The closest campground with showers is in Truckee at Donner Memorial State Park - (530) 582-7894 - see link below.
It is highly advisable to check availability with each campground as seasonal closures vary.
Donner Memorial State Park (Closest Campground with showers)
Tahoe SRA
DL Bliss State Park
Silver Creek Campground (US Forest Service)
Goose Meadows Campground (US Forest Service)
Granite Flat Campground (US Forest Service)

Oh man, I'm so tempted. I just need some more pieces of the lineup. How is spearhead headlining? (Or at the top of the poster) I have nothing against MF or spearhead, but I don't think they can headline any festival like such

this is the first time wanderlust I think, so there is no 'usually'. but they've posted schedules already. friday mutaytor starts at 9 pm, sharon jones at 10.15. short day friday.

I'm also really nervous about BSS cancelling and this all amounting to nothing for me, they've had an unusually bad track record of cancelling festival appearances in the last year for some reason... but oh well, at least the festival itself is really nice.

Ehh, not off the top of my head, but within the range of $15-30 a night... I checked out a few camgrounds but I haven't looked into it very seriously yet. I'll probably just take whatever's closest.

So I guess this means it starts Friday at 6PM and ends at 8PM on Sunday..
All tickets are 3-day festival passes (Friday at 6 p.m. through Sunday at 8 p.m.)....
Also, it mentions that VIP tickets give you preferred access to late night shows.
I'm curious as to which artists will be doing this and what time they will be...

I saw those but..
I thought they were saying that there would be really late night shows at other locations like bars/clubs..
This is what it says in the VIP ticket description...
Preferred admission to late night music events. Separate VIP entrances..
So that was just alluding to the stage schedules??
shakermaker113
05-15-2009, 06:50 AM
hm fair point. maybe there is more they have yet to announce. I wouldn't have thought late night club shows would mesh so well with the morning yoga, but hey I am all for adding more talent to the weekend.

Sooo. Who's all heading out to this?
I decided just to pick up a couple of 1 day passes for Friday and Sunday.
Friday is basically just The Muytator and Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings for $25, Sunday has BSS, Amanda Palmer, Spoon , Andrew Bird and others.
I've been insanely busy this summer, so this definitely has snuck up on me. I'm stoked.. If the weather is similiar to what's expected this weekend, it's going to be a pretty toasty one by the lake. Highs in the upper 80's, lows in the 50's.

I've never heard of any of the additions since the initial line up.
It still says more TBD but I think the webmaster just forgot to remove it.
gmoneyak
07-15-2009, 07:12 PM
It was just a mish-mash of folk singers and dj's, nothing major.. Alas, I think they did forget to remove the TBD from the website.
The additions were mostly for the "Casbah Stage", which resides in the Village and the "late-night" dj's that start at midnight in the Olympic Plaza, (Lazer Sword, DJ Rehka etc..).

Wanderlust was awesome..
Not only was the location and all of it's surroundings spectacular, this festival also had the advantages of being able to use all the resort's amenities.
In's and Out's, the opportunity to explore the entire mountain, relaxed security, restaurants and bars on site, etc., etc.. The weather was fucking perfect.
It also didn't hurt having hundreds of fit and flexible ladies bouncing around all weekend.
I have tons of pics and videos to sort through, I'll get them up tonight.

agreed -- as well as being really small, with very chill crowds all spread out, and had really good very fitting music. also, swimming was awesome.
I thought that common kicked ass, and was better than spearhead would have been (no offense to michael franti). amanda palmer was really amazing, and catching her impromptu performance by the pond was awesome. seeing the artists wandering around was neat actually. I spoke to both her and common, and saw some of broken social scene here and there. oh and andrew bird has the perfect aesthetic for that setting.

$120 for a 3-day pass..
I opted for two day-passes, Friday and Sunday, Friday being more of a half day. Basically I got to see The Mutaytor, Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings, Amanda Palmer, Mates of State, Broken Social Scene, Andrew Bird, Spoon and some late night Dj's for $75 including all fees.. That works for me.
There wasn't any sort of Club Med feeling to this festival, unless Club Med is frequented by hippies and carnies these days.
Wanderlust was definitely well-ran and organized.

I think my top performances were Sharon Jones and BSS, closely followed by Amanda Palmer and Spoon, Andrew Bird, Mates of State, The Honey Brothers then The Mutaytor.. I even caught a couple of dj sets at the Plaza Bar from Lazer Sword and Dj Rehka. Lazer Sword dug into some dubstep late in their set which was pretty decent, Rehka spun Bhangra beats mixed with hip hop. The crowds were movin'..

my only complaint really was that it was so dusty. no nice lawn to sit on. when lots of people were walking around you could see the clouds -- saturday at least (maybe we were desensitized by sunday?). camping chairs would have been nice to sit on, but you're going to breathe some dust regardless.

Yeah, It was good thing that most of the more "dance-oriented" acts were on the bottom stage.
Next year they'll have to be lil' more liberal with the wood chips and filter out some of those big ass boulders I kept stepping on. But that's just a minor complaint, I guess they're already talking about adding an additional stage as well. Interesting..

This NY Times article;
http://http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/28/arts/music/28yoga.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1
Though it wasn’t quite enough to break even, Mr. Krasno said his partners, which include the companies behind established festivals like Bonnaroo in Tennessee and Austin City Limits in Texas, are already considering expanding Wanderlust next year, to three events on three mountaintops
I guess I'm reading that as adding another stage?.. The potential is definitely there.
