That's a shame you didnt enjoy it. I thought it was by far the best festival i have ever been to. Maybe they have got stricter on security, but when i was there i didnt notice them at all.

Apparently word is spreading rather quickly! It's gotten back to Australia!

You Americans know how to throw a good party. After getting myself excited for 6months in anticipation of Coachella I wasnt let down at all!
The sound quailty at all stages I thought was clear as a bell and actual setup of Coachella is great. No cues for food or beers all festival....

Met some fukin cool people from all over the globe there, Canada, Mexico, England and of course Americans. Me and my mate got sooo wasted with these 2 Canadian blokes on the Saturday, Soo wasted infact I lost my Digital Camera and my mate lost his wallet with his I.D in it. That will teach my mate for thinking he is a QTR back for the Green Bay Packers!

If you dont camp at Coachella, You bloody should be! Its an experience in itself. At our Australian festivals you wouldnt ever see a convey of about 150 people all running around the campgrounds chanting 'WE LOVE COACHELLA, WE LOVE COACHELLA'(that might also be because Coachella isnt an Australian festival).

If I can afford it, ILL BE BACK!!!!!

All due respect to your well-crafted analogy, but I doubt very highly my blood relatives who died in concentration camps during World War II had frozen lemonade at their disposal.

The absence this year of the Burgerrito only serves to make your bitchy claim even less valid.

That's not an excuse for getting certain rules of the language you speak and write wrong, regardless of where and when you present it. When you criticize a people for being "dumd", you'd get a lot further in the discussion if you weren't presenting it at a lower level. Bring it up a notch.

Lots of people agreeing with you does not bring truth to your's or any statements. Lots of dumb (sorry, dumd) people in America think this is the greatest nation the God has ever created..don't make it true. By your standards it does. Lots of people thought Australia was a big enough shit hole to use it as a prison. Was that true? No, it wasn't.

So you're saying Australia was a shit hole and stopped being one. How did that happen? i think there are still enough people today to be considered "a lot" that might still hold the opinion where you live is a shit hole (i'm not one of them). What constitutes "a lot" in your opinion before it becomes official fact?

ivankay

i never said i thought Australia was a bad place. my impression of it from what i have read and seen presented through other mediums is the place is wonderful. i'm sure there will be some places, rules and regulations i don't like when i visit, but i doubt that will make me label the whole place as a disaster and the people moronic. Those people 200 years ago who decided to use your (or the native people's) land as a prison, visited and lived in the place and thought it was a shit hole. There were "a lot" of them.

Please, what is "a lot" to make statements fact?

Tell us about your American journey. How long were you here? Where did you go? Any positives besides the festival? You probably know a lot of us agree with the negatives you bitch about, but that's not the whole story. Life and places are more complex than you are stating. Australia is not paradise. America is not hell.

Looking forward to you buying me a beer when i get there in the next few years.

Which is only sometimes a good thing, Oz. Every festival has a different vibe, and that's what you buy into when you go, which is why you do your homework beforehand.

Every festival has pros and cons. Oz festivals, for instance, tend to suffer from a poor undercard purely because smaller indie acts can't commit to the the distance and time to get there in the middle of their tour. Giving the example I know, Arcade Fire tour their arses to the bone when they're rolling, but they still only made it Australia for the first time in 2008 purely for the logistics of it.

UK and Irish festivals are rough largely because of their attitude to drink and drugs. There's no denying that, it's just the reality of it. Even Electric Picnic, which is probably the chillest one Ireland has to offer, has at least one person die of booze or drug related excess every year, and it's not that big a festival. That's before you start talking about the traditional Oxegen or Reading bedlam.

Bottom line is, this thread wasn't here to do anything useful. Guy just wanted to troll some Americans.

You are welcome to not come back as well if you dont like the crowd or whatever. Yes, im planning on attending some european festivals. I am going to have to disagree that they are more fun in europe( ive been there 3 times). It is different, and there are a ton of things i love more about partying in europe, there are also a few of things i dont like. If this is a "whose dick is bigger post", then u can get fucked.

Heh. I'm actually an Irish girl, and I work at EP setup and breakdown. I just found it pretty funny that ishudcoco assumed that I couldn't possibly know anything about Ireland or European festivals and ran with it. Still, at least he did me the courtesy of granting that I might have been over at some stage.

Err, I didn't assume anything, I'm just stating my opinion, I thought Coachella was by and large(when you take the whole festival experience into account) a steaming pile of shit. I am comparing it to all the european festivals I've been to. And it comes last. Yes, Oxegen even beats it. Hard to believe ha?

And the fact that you're Irish and sticking up for Coachella makes you even more close minded. Have you been to many Euro fests besides EP and Oxegen?(both would be the 2nd and 3rd worst festivals I have attended.).

Either way, I'm just a troll, stating my opinion, which is an opinion that seems to be shared by many. Sure this thread was the easiest stir ever(one post and a link, hehe). And the poor Aussies seem to be getting awful unwarranted abuse. This is what the internet is about folks. And the joy of posting an opinion. Get the fuck over it. Some people take it way too seriously.

At least now when someone googles Coachella next year(like I did, and got very little constructive opinion bar "oh yeah it's amazing!"), they'll have plenty of opinions on both sides of the fence.

And I say again, if you are considering going to this from afar, just for this festival, and are young and like a drink, then think again!!!! It's a VIP 5 star fest for yuppies and posers.

You misunderstand me. I'm not sticking up for the arguable problems with Coachella. I'm trying to distance myself from the demonstrated idiocy of you.

There's plenty of diverse opinion on the pros and cons of Coachella, even on this very board, and the only obstacle to finding it is a giddying degree of laziness or subliteracy. And yes of course, you're free to state your opinion, but equally, everybody else is free to correctly point out the stupidness of said opinion when it's apparent.

Your beef with Coachella, as far as I can see, begins with the differing treatment of American festivals to alcohol. Comparing it to a concentration camp is where it ends. So uh, trying to take the moral high ground now won't really work, will it?

No. No it won't.

The real irony is that Oxegen actually does resemble a concentration camp. It's cold, miserable, everybody is covered in each other's wet filth for days on end, and there's a good chance you'll end up on fire come Monday morning. Oxegen does improve on the concentration camp template somewhat, in that eMCeeDee will come and sue your ass for telling anybody about it afterwards, an innovation even the Nazis themselves weren't able to pull off.

:D So let me get this straight. You are taking my original post seriously?? As mentioned a zillion times, and confirmed by me, I was trolling. Obviously I was looking for a reaction, and I got one. I even understand the Americans being proud of their festival, and not knowing any better, because they haven't been to any, and love Coachella. But for an Irish person, who wasn't even at the festival this year to defend it? Wow.

As for you being oh so fuckin offended by the comparison to a concentration camp, let me tell ya where that story started. Me and a mate were trying to get back to the tent before Macca, as my mate had forgotten to bring a hoody, and we thought surely we could jump out for 5 seconds(our tent was a 2 minute walk from the entrance). Even bringing a security guy with us. As my friend pointed out, what if it were a case of just trying to get medication from the tent, would they allow you grace to pop out to your tent for 5 minutes after you paid $300 to come to this mighty festival? Including paying EXTRA for the PRIVILEGE to camp? The people at the entrance said under no circumstances would you be allowed re-entry. We found this shocking. They agreed. They said "rules are rules, we agree, they are ridiculous, but we'll lose our job if we are found to have let people re-enter, even due to medical reasons".

So they told us to go to the info tent to complain and maybe they would give us the good grace to visit our tent for 5 minutes. A young lady there, early twenties, agreed with our issues, sympathised, but repeated

"sorry, rules are rules, especially here in america, you could be trying to get drugs or alcohol you stashed in your tent". Seriously. So I, in shock, kind of said

"wow, this is like a concentration camp!!". Young lady gets upset

"Excuse me. First of all I am jewish. Second of all I find that highly offensive as my relatives died in a concentration camp".

Me, extremely calm all along, and kind of shocked at this reaction from a 20 year old American, replied "err, ok, firstly, I meant it tongue in cheek, and secondly, the crazy rules here do kind of resemble a camp where you do as you are told and have no freedom to express yourself in any way if it doesn't meet the idea the organisers have of how you should behave".

I should have got on the phone to Hitler to make him apologise to this young American wearing abercrombe and expensive jewellery as his actions have obviously ruined her life.

But if you want to have a serious discussion about the pros/cons of Coachella, go to http://www.coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31520 , where it seems from your posts you haven't even attended Coachella, and only EP and Oxegen. So you are arguing staunchly yet you don't know what you are talking about?

Try here http://www.efestivals.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=113786 too for a proper discussion on the debate of whether Coachella is worth a visit from Europe.

My original post on EP forum was in pure seriousness. But it got flamed by hipster retards who felt offended that someone could possibly blow their cover on their "best festival ever" stories they bullshit their friends with.

In short, go to Pukkelpop, and go to Coachella, and tell me which was better for a full festival experience. They are light years apart. Coachella, the worst festival I've ever been to.

And quit dissing Oxegen, I totally agree, it's horrendous. But it's still better than Coachella. Why? Because if you go with a few friends, you are guaranteed a good time. Sure a couple of tents(out of thousands) will be set on fire, a couple of girls have been allegedly raped, fighting, insanely drunken teenage idiots. It's the organisers fault for allowing juvenile wankers. But at least if you are with a good group and you are sensible you will see alot of good music and be able to enjoy yourself. The atmosphere, even in the worst years, was so much better than Coachella. I'm not telling anyone to go to Oxegen, go to that bloody festival in Kilkee before Oxegen, I'm just saying, I genuinely think you have more chance of having fun than you do at Coachella. Coachella, IMO, sucks. Bigtime. Now tell me again, how many times have you been to Coachella and these non Irish or UK European festivals?

Of course you can my friend. The whole purpose of all this is to stir it up so that when people research this "festival" next year, they don't just get the "Coachella is super awesome FYI!" opinions. There is very little negativity about this festival on the internet, when in truth, it deserves bagloads. Nice to see I'm not the only one spreading the word.

Now go fuck yourself;) Gosh, someone on an internet forum not trying to make friends. Just interested in sharing opinions. Weird that.

Your new thread on Pukkelpop: We are so much better than Coachella.

Hehe, I shouldn't bother, but what the hell, I'm bored.

I had a blast, really. It was a super weekend. Why? Cos I saw a couple of great acts, and met some fuckin really cool people in the campsite and we had a ball talkin and drinkin our smuggled in vodka and tequila(which was like mcgyver shit trying to get in!! They smelled the water bottles of some people!!!).

I am merely stating that the festival as a whole is a pile of shite and most europeans who have been to one or two festivals back in the "motherland" will feel pretty hard done by unless they really read up on this shit fest.

IF you know it's pretty much anti alcohol, and is just about the music and the organisers making as much dollars as is humanly possible over a 5 day period, then go for it.

If you are with your partner, and aren't up for a party for the weekend, just wanna stay in a hotel nearby and have lotsa money to spare and don't mind watching some of the main bands in 40 degrees celcius with no shade, or horrible organisation where the sound overlaps incredibly between stages(so bad that Leonard Cohen wrapped up early due to Morrissey's ranting), then go for it.

I love alot about America, I've met some really cool people, and been to some amazing places. But Coachella was everything I hate about the US of A(and it must be said, the World, seeing as so many idiots choose not to question what they pay $300 for) in one small place. A really interesting experience. Thoroughly enjoyed it. But I could have had as much fun camping in a field with a few mates. Dullest most sterilised fest ever.

Seriously, there's nothing wrong with questioning things. Try a different festival. I hear the new one up in SF is meant to be great. Bonaroo some people say? South By South west? I'm sure America has thousands. Just don't believe the hype, Coachella is for older rich people, or really boring young people who happen to be spoilt and are complete fuckin posers/hipsters/scenester/head up their own hole so far they don't realise what is right or wrong. Plain and simple. Open your eyes you fruitcakes.

I go there to check out the music. Why would i go elsewhere? Complaining about a lack of shade is insane. Should they cover the whole polo field?
